I contacted and spoke with several different remediation companies to figure out what the cause of the mold was, but Chris was really the only one who was able to figure it out and to give a cost-effective plan of attack. I can't even begin to say how completely awesome this company is. We are selling our house and the buyer's inspection showed some rather daunting news. Apparently our shower drain wasn't connected properly to the main drain. In fact, it looked like the contractor completely forgot when we had the house remodeled 10 years ago. We had water leaking in our crawl space for most likely 10 years. We were sickened at the thought of what it would take to fix the water issue under the house. We called several companies and got several different responses, with a few shouting doom and gloom. But they all felt so prompted like they where reading from cue cards and worse tried to upsell everything they could. When Chris from First to Respond came to the house, not only was he friendly, but extremely professional and knowledgeable. He talked to us about the actual problem and was rather clear about what was needed to rectify the situation. No doom and gloom, no fearful scenario was pushed into an upsell. No evil laughter about how much he would charge us. We felt extremely comfortable with what he was discussing. The best part, the quote was perfect and well within expectations of what needed to be done. We had quotes as low as $1000 and as high as $4000. I won't even get into the low quote. LOL That is a different story that I am contemplating placing on the low quote's yelp page. Chris gave us a quote of $1700 and their work is worth EVERY PENNY. Funny details: We had a very messy "undercarriage" of our house. LOL They cleaned it all up. Clean as a baby's butt. BUT, (LOL) the shower drain was not fixed yet because our Plumber had not yet come to fix it. Well Hmmm guess what happened? The shower got used by someone in the house without even thinking about it. OOOOPS... Well, in tears, my wife reached out to Chris as First to Respond. He said don't worry. Jose, Chris and the First to Respond team are awesome! Admittedly a remediation company is not a vendor you want to have to engage but working with the FTR team definitely helped ease the burden. After a surprise broken hose, our project became a much bigger deal than it was expected to be. Like others here, we also started with a different company and were happy that we switched to FTR. All in, they were at our house between 2 - 3 weeks. While there, Jose was communicative and kept us in the loop about what was happening, helped us prioritize our pet's safety and is a big animal lover which is a big priority to us and overall he and Jason were super comfortable to have at the house and even helped change an air cleaner filter and bring in some packages haha -- talk about going the extra mile! They really care about what they do and successfully walked the line between doing a thorough job that passed inspection the first time and recognizing that we LIVE here and easing having work in the house. They were HUMAN and allowed us to be too which was a welcome surprise vs other vendors. Chris was great at giving us overall context and dealing with our insurance company. I had First to Respond come out to give me an estimate for mold remediation on June 28th as they had come highly recommended. I was told that I would receive a written estimate within 48 hours. When I had not received an estimate by July 5th, I sent an email and called the office and left a voicemail requesting the promised estimate. When I received no response, I texted Chris on July 7th again asking for the estimate. It's almost 3 weeks later and I never received any response to my attempts to contact the company to get the estimate. I had to take off time from work to be home at the time the estimate was scheduled. Why did they bother coming out if they weren't going to provide an estimate? If they weren't interest in the job, they should have at least had the common courtesy to respond to me. They could have sent either a text or e mail and not had to even speak to me. read more

It's hard to imagine a company better than this one. We had a serious mold problem due to three different roof leaks. The owner Chris came out to do the estimate and communicated very clearly and thoroughly at all times. He used a humidity detector and an infrared camera to determine the extent of the areas to be treated. We then used a separate testing company, which confirmed the accuracy of this. FIRST TO RESPOND's prices were very competitive and they began the job quickly. Erick the lead technician was as thorough and knowledgeable as Chris, and they both responded almost immediately to any questions throughout the job via text. At one point when Erick got sick, this company didn't miss a beat and sent another excellent lead technician named Jose. All of the other crew members including Gabriel, Keanu and Omar worked hard and got the job done in the time they thought it would take. Everyone in the company was very flexible when anything would arise -- such as the roofing company failing to fix the leak! Twice! FIRST TO RESPOND helped to pinpoint the leak to make the roofing company's job easier. When the mold remediation was complete and the testing company checked their work, FIRST TO RESPOND not only passed the test but came right away to remove all of the plastic containments they had built. Despite all the mold and destruction of plaster and lath, there was no sign of dust inside or outside of the containments. At the beginning of this review, I said it's hard to imagine a company better than this one. That seems like an exaggeration but it's not. I'd use this company again in a heartbeat and I wish every company gave this kind of service. read more

We had a plumbing disaster that required our entire home's drain pipes to be replaced, and we couldn't start the job until a restoration company came to cleanup the site. Chris and Erick were awesome, they came out asap, shared photos/ videos of the process with us while we were stuck in a rental, and our plumbers were able to start the job quickly. They were flexible in working around the plumbing repair schedule which was super helpful in helping us get back in the house asap. Always trust your first instinct. If it's business-oriented, don't extend the benefit of the doubt and just consider all "misunderstandings" a reflection of some type of underlying problem, and keep it moving. I overlooked the fact that they were the last to respond, although I noticed the irony of their business name, LOL. I had to contact them repeatedly and they weren't really trying to be proactive or follow up. It's like in France, where the waiters and service people don't have the concept of extra money. They have enough and aren't actually motivated to make more. This company must not need any business. They are problem-oriented and not solution oriented and don't ask questions, just presents reasons to not do the work, etc. They have no hesitation wasting your time and I'm sure that behavior would extend to them doing the job if they are this sloppy/weird before even beginning. They wasted my time visiting for an estimate and then subsequently tried to squirm out initially because of asbestos without looking at the age of the part they'd be working on. It took me less than a minute to find the LA property records showing that the property in question was exempt. Why didn't they look or ask? Isn't this their business and doesn't this come up all the time? Then after I sent them that paperwork/proof, they dragged their heels on getting me the estimate I needed ASAP, only to turn around and say that they WON'T give me an estimate because I'm not the landlord! Are you kidding me? You knew that from the beginning. If that's a deal breaker, you don't even take the appointment. What since does that even make? They didn't even ask for his contact information or ask if I was acting on behalf of the landlord. The landlord asked me to do the groundwork (no wonder, he must know how flaky these companies are) and I would've gladly given them his info, although I was compiling all the estimates together for him. Small problems stop them - they have no problem-solving skills. I'd be scared now to let them do work. But they saved me some trouble because to see red flags before AND during the estimate is really all you need to know. They don't want or need business, which is fine because plenty of other companies do. The sad thing is that they were going to be my #1 recommendation to my landlord on the strength of how personable, kind, and knowledgeable the technicians who came to my house were. The guy explained a lot of stuff to me and they were on time. That's apparently where the business excellence ends. read more

We had a roof leak and weren't aware until we noticed paint bubbling. We then opened up the wall and found some mold as the water had been sitting for several months. We worked with Reuben and Josue Byron at First to Respond Restoration to remediate the mold and they were amazing. So responsive, incredible thorough and just a joy to work with. I called and met with several mold abatement companies. Two of them ended up not having any type of certification or insurance and 2 of them did. I ended up choosing First to Respond for several reasons. First, Chris really does respond! As did the rest of his team, Davin, Ruben, Andre, Jessica, and Edgar! Before I committed to using their company, I had many questions and Chris patiently answered them all. Then he came out to my house and was very thorough inspecting everywhere he thought could be damaged and he explained why he thought another area was ok. He was knowledgeable about the materials used in my home and explained why some withstood mold better than others. I asked him about his licensing and insurance and he immediately gave me that information which I verified on the California website. Next the actual process started and I met Davin, Ruben and Andre. Davin came in and explained everything and then Ruben was the main guy along with Andre who were at the house all day. They were both super professional, polite, willing to answer any additional questions, and very careful moving furniture and they tried to save the parts of my cabinet they could. Then I received a call that the mold had traveled farther than we hoped along with pictures. Unfortunately this meant my bottom cabinet also had to be torn out. However, I felt confident that this was necessary based on the integrity everyone had demonstrated so far. I was warned that they could not guarantee my granite countertop would not break...but hooray Ruben and Andre were able to save it! (Thank you again guys!) Again, I highly recommend Chris and his team! I spent most of my time with Ruben and I even had a little hiccup when the plastic came up a little and he drove back to the office to get a weighted thing to hold it down instead of tape so that my floors would not risk being damaged! The mold machine (not sure the proper name but it purifies the air) is very loud so as soon as we got the all clear, we wanted the machine gone! Davin and Ruben worked with me to figure out how to get it picked up so we wouldn't have it over the weekend. I'm not going to sugarcoat this process, a lot of drywall had to be removed and 2 cabinets had to be demolished and thrown away, the machine is loud and has to run 24/7 until the mold test comes back clear ( in my case Tuesday-Friday). A BIG bummer to say the least! However, First to Respond made a difficult situation a little easier with their expertise, professionalism, responsiveness, and kindness! My husband and I bought our first house less than six months ago, and already have had to do some major surprise repairs. One day our ceiling collapsed and exposed years of water and mold damage. This was not something we could put off, so we jumped on a search. We worked with First To Respond Restoration after having to fire another company who started our job. We actually met Chris at FTR before this other company, they were in fact, the first ones to respond. Not knowing what mold remediation entailed, we compared the two companies' estimates side by side trying to see if we could make sense of the line items. We just saw that this other company was about half the cost to do the same job. We did NOT take the time we should have to notice and review the 17-page report with pictures and descriptions that Chris sent us along with his estimate. We ignored our gut telling us that this other company didn't have believable reviews all made on the same date and overlooked that FTR had excellent and consistent reviews. I don't know why we didn't take the time to do our research, probably because we were so worried about the mold that had made our ceiling collapse seemingly out of nowhere and we had a one-year old baby in the next room. When the other company changed their plan for what needed to happen with no straight answer and lots of variation in cost, we had to question all of it. It was now going to be 7-10 times what they initially estimated. We decided to put a pause on our work with them and get a third opinion, from Chris at FTR. He could tell we were being taken advantage of and offered to come back and assess the job again on a Saturday morning. Chris spent lots of time with us to answer our questions and provided a detailed and updated work order/estimate. We decided to change companies and close out with the other one. Best decision we made during this nightmare. Chris explained what the plan was, and how the next week would look. Davin (Project Manager), Erick (Lead Tech), Andre, & Byron were excellent. I was updated 1-2 times a day and notified if there were any new findings. I have documentation and photographs of the entire process to submit to our insurance company, and their work is extremely thorough. Mold remediation is not a pleasant experience, but the guys were all so helpful, professional, and had a great attitude--it was truly a pleasure to do business with them. I had a leaky drain pipe from bathroom sink. Damage was in the wall and vanity and floor. Long story short I started calling companies. Chris responded quickly and was extremely thorough. I liked that he didn't say we had to rip out an adjoining closet or tiles on the floor until we saw what the water damage was once we opened up the wall.
