Patco Woodcrest Station - Refreshed interior

Patco Woodcrest Station

Very convenient way for us Jersey folks to get to center city Philly and beyond. This is right off…read moreexit 32 of 295: from northern Burlington / southern Mercer county it's only about a 30 minute drive and then you're at 8th & market in 15-20. We can drive in Philly just fine, we're used to crappy roads, crazy drivers, traffic etc. But why bother when you can get a round trip patco ticket for $6 and park for free after 10 am at this station? Parking is ample with decent lighting to boot. Some of it is covered. They also just freshened up the interior of the place a bit, so it feels a bit more welcoming and clean. PATCO as whole is cleaner & nicer than SEPTA. We did see a cop riding around the lot tonight. Good thing because we've also seen random guys checking for open car doors in the past. Oh well, life isn't without risk. Consider Woodcrest station next time you want to go to center city. It's a lot less hassle without the tolls, traffic, parking & the PPA.

What can you say about a high speed line train station?…read more Well in my case quite a bit. First, if you are looking for a convenient and truly bargain priced way to enter the City of Brotherly Love it doesn't get better than PATCO!!! Six bucks for a round trip!!! The bridge cost into Philly is $5 and parking rates usually start around $8/hour if space is available. PATCO has somehow managed to keep the price super cheap but maybe that is in part due to my super high New Jersey tax bill. Now convenience doesn't get better than the Woodcrest PATCO unless you live within walking distance of another station! The WOODCREST Station has its very own exit off of I-295. I am surprised that some Jersey politico hasn't convinced the governing powers to give the exit their name but no matter take the Woodcrest Exit and drive straight into the massive FREE (Except between 7am & 10pm weekdays) parking lot. During the work week 9-5 hours parking is hard to find but shouldn't you be working then too? Woodcrest Station's parking lot provides a clear view of the elevated tracks so you can see your train leaving as you walk towards the station, which happened to me today necessitating a 30 minute wait for the next train. PATCO trains run a regular schedule that I have always found to be quite accurate. The station itself well it's nothing to write home about and an astute (its in the dictionary) reviewer would probably say BLAH while giving only a star or two but to me a train station review needs to cover start to finish. So there are no galleries to stroll through, no day old bakery wares being sold as fresh with a cup of "joe," and not even a heated lounge to sit in. They do have a dusty old American flag stretched out by the stairs, whose purpose I could not discern because it had patriotic potential even though unclean but it could be an artistic commentary for just that very reality in its appearance. Stark with steps and escalating steps (they worked) to take travelers to the train platform. Before heading up to the train I have a couple of issues with ticketing. : Right now I have FOURTEEN Susan B Anthony Dollar coins in my pocket!!! Did you even know they still minted those? If you use cash ... and I did ... the machines only give coins in return and of course where once we paid a human to sell tickets in today's world the machine is it. The second issue is only related to newbie PATCO riders and it has to do with the flimsy paper ticket you are issued. There are no instructions but what one needs to know is that ticket not only gets you into the stations' inner sanctums where you board trains but at the end of the ride you will need it to return to the non-train world. Throw it away because you think it has only a get on purpose will lead to more money being spent to escape. They really need guidelines or a message on the tickets!! So let's up to our train ... at the top of the stairs/escalator is a small enclosed hallway where riders can stand out of the elements. It is very clean and welcoming with paper schedules scotch taped to the wall (come on folks you can do better) but the schedule was helpful and accurate. You can also brave the elements out on the platform where there are benches. There was also an emergency call box that I was attempted to test for the sake of the review but misuse of emergency devices might carry a fine so I just noted the button is there. The trains are clean and provide a comfortable ride. Be sure to check out the USS New Jersey moored on the Delaware as you move between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A good ride folks and a reminder that public transportation can be your best choice ... Now where did I put that ticket?

Patco Woodcrest Station - Don't forget to take your card out after you feed it through and hang onto it. You'll need it for your return trip.

Uber will always get 5 stars from me…read more Living in one of the 5th largest cities in the U.S., it is often hard, no, impossible to be anything other than a nameless face in a crowd, an otherwise anonymous customer number or just a delivery address. As many issues that Philly might have, there is an unfettered joy and sense of adventure for me with the random, chance encounters the city offers. As I am conveyed back and forth to the South Street vet with my sick little white cat, once again I get to have some funny, interesting, happy, poignant and occasionally simply dull, yawning interactions with Uber's legions of drivers. I love getting a minute peek into the thoughts and lives of these drivers who are so often taken for granted and treated like robots. Sure, some of these folx have complicated lives, second and third jobs and want nothing more to get through their shift in peace and quiet. As an introvert, I always test the conversational waters when I step into an Uber vehicle. If the driver answers me in monosyllables, I take it he or she simply wants to drive, thus I keep to myself. Some drivers are possibly bored yet enthused about chatting so as a result I have been privileged to learn about their families, their country of origin, their snack preferences, some of the odd/interesting/pesky passengers they've conveyed, music tastes and most of all-how connected everyone of us really are. Almost as good, since I don't drive, is having the little kid in me awakened and absolutely thrilled at going out for a car ride. (Sure, it isn't free but the little boy in me never even considers that. He simply has a blast seeing the city from a vehicle...) While Uber is a business, it would be nothing without its drivers. Sure, sometimes they are slow to arrive or they flip your trip to another driver. From time to time, a driver is having a rotten day and acts out a bit. Examine your conscience. Haven't you had similar days or nights, no matter what you do for a living? Rather than bitching and moaning, treat your Uber ride as a way to connect with someone you'd probably never meet in your regular social circle. See your driver like the unique, silly, grouchy, aspiring, single parenting, hard working, dream filled human being they are; under the t-shirt, under the jacket, under the trucker's cap, behind the knock off shades-they are someone just like you.

Yeah I just thought you got to pay $20 to retrieve your item if you accidentally dropped it or lost…read moreit inside the Uber. I took a ride across me $7 I dropped my item that's only like $7 and they charge me $20 to retrieve it it's like holding your item for ransom. So I look at it like if it's an item that's not worth retriever leave it be and if it is worth retrieving more likely you won't be able to get it and they won't reimburse you but yet they will charge you $20 to retrieve your own items. I use Uber a lot and they're about to lose a very good customer because they care about the money more than they care about their customers
