Pep Boys - The nail i ran over

    Pep Boys

To preface, i'm not a person to write a review unless the business or person(s) absolutely deserve…read moreit. In this rare case, the guys Jahqui & Mario from Pep boys deserves the honorable mention. Ran through a huge nail which destroyed my tire at 6:45pm. After making several calls to nearby shops, i decided to go to Pep boys to see if they could repair or replace the tire. Keep in mind it was few minutes before their closing time. I went into the shop, clearly distressed and explained what has happened and have them analyze the possible solutions. Those that have been in my similar position know the feeling of helplessness and desperation. Jahqui, probably the most down to earth person evaluated the dire situation and presented the unfortunate news. The nail was huge and placement of the nail annihilated my tire and could not be easily patched. They also didn't have the tire in stock and were unable to find other vendors with my tire size. However, Jahqui's assuring demeanor analyzed all possible solutions - most which required a tire delivery the next day which was unacceptable for my circumstances. Eventually, as the last resort, Mario (the tire guy) worked his magic and temporarily patched my awful tire just enough to get me home 30 miles away. All of this occurred far past their closing time and they didnt ask for a single cent. I had to offer them a tip for their hard work on OVERTIME. They could've easily shot me away, stating they're closing and unable to help. Without Jahqui and Mario, i would've probably had to call a tow truck or be left stranded. Their dedication to their service and customers are unmatched. They've just won a lifelong customer and would recommend everyone to them. If you're serviced by Jahqui or Mario, you're in good hands. I hope they both get a promotion or raise because they deserve it.

Last time I mentioned it seems to coincide when I use my windshield washer. They again said it was a drain and changed the washer pump. Well today I used my washer, drove two blocks and the misfire happened again. This time on the 2nd cylinder! They never checked or changed any of the hoses leading to the new pump! I call them up and basically get "duuuuhhh" from whatever Pygmy they have answered the phone that can't understand clear English!

I explained my daughter stopped there earlier to put air in a tire and it was low again within minutes. She immediately said you probably need a new tire. Sight unseen. I said maybe, I dont know, can someone look at it. She said it would be about 15 minutes. Ok not bad, I took a seat. She went into the garage and started screaming at the mechanic like he was a 2 year old drawing with a sharpie on the wall. How unprofessional and mean she was, I was very uncomfortable. Then he brought my car in. A few minutes later she waved me over to come see the nail in the tire, too close to the sidewall to repair. They both kept telling me it was bubbling when they sprayed it but it was not plain water, it was bubbly everywhere. I did see a tiny nail though. So she priced out a new tire but has to order it. I said I would see if someone else had it. Tried calling the Lake Parsippany store but got the call center. Very nice young lady who said there was one about 48 miles away they could get for tomorrow morning, she offered me a decent discount, and I gave her a $25 deposit. I told the girl in the store who promised to call me as soon as it got there so I could come in for them to mount and balance it. I asked her to have the spare put on. She said they were not allowed to put on a"half spare". Whatever that is, I assume she meant donut. I said this is a tire shop are you kidding. She said no, we are not allowed to any more, try Pep boys up the road maybe they can. For real???? Well that was the best advice ever! I called even though I would be passing right by and the manager was just as surprised as I was that they wouldn't do it. He said come right over I will help you, even after I told him I was coming from Mavis. So he asked if I had time for him to put the car on the lift and see where this nail was and why they couldn't patch it. I said please go right ahead. I went over to help them find it easier because I knew what I was looking for and there were no bubbles when they sprayed water on it in fact the manager pulled it out and it wasn't even in the tire it was stuck in the tread it was so tiny. They kept spraying and found a real nail in the middle of the tire. Mavis didn't find it they just wanted to sell me a new tire for $250. Between the incompetence and unprofessionalism and oddity that they couldn't even put a spare on for me, they've lost a customer for life. This was not the only negative experience I've had with that store, but I expected places like that to try and sell you things you don't need I just say no. This was for worse. And they let me drive off with a tire that lost 10 pounds of air within a few minutes of them filling it. Never again. Stay far away!

People aren't the most friendly but they get the job done. I would not bring fancy car to the car wash but they do have a detail center that works well. This is a good place to bring a mini van to keep it maintained good enough for your family. Oil center isn't cheap and doesn't offer discounts for members, for oil changes themselves. They also don't even carry filters for Kia carnivals. Service was quick for an oil change. Overall good experience. They get you in and out fast no matter if you're at the wash, the detail center, or oil change center. One of reason to get the deluxe membership is the under-carry wash.

"Ray" was rather unhappy that I knew what I needed and declined his suggestions at an issue I'm already well aware of. He refused to show me the needle stick with the new oil and told me to "get out of the car and check it myself". 3days later, I find out there is no oil in my car. I was charged $90+ for no oil and to risk my life along with my car. There was an owner who called me but the conversation was more about how great his business. Disgusted by this establishment who is not even accredited by the BBB and now it's evidently clear why.
