I was in town attending my fathers funeral and was fortunate to get an appointment with Sally, who used to cut my dads hair! When I entered the salon, I was greeted warmly and then saw one of my dads big paintings on the wall behind the reception desk! What a wonderful surprise! Sally gave me excellent advise on how to manage some issues I have with my scalp and hair, gave me a great cut and really listened to what I wanted done. She even stuck a few samples in my bag to try out later! The salon is very clean, beautifully decorated and the whole staff was really friendly. If I lived there, I'd definitely be a regular! Thank you again to Sally for making a very difficult time a little less stressful for me, knowing that at least I didn't need to worry about my hair. read more

I wanted my hair colored but after my bad haircut and bad service I didn't want to go back so I found First edition. Jenna did my color. It was AWESOME. I decided to bring my 2 and 4 year old for a trim and Jackie did a phenomenal job. I've never seen my boys sit so still and let their hair cut be done with no fuss!!! I highly recommend them. I walked in looking like Bozo and left looking like J-Lo. (Okay, maybe not exactly like J-Lo because, that woman has a whole lotta booty and I have a lot more booty than that ) with that being said though, Marcie is amazing!! She was super knowledgeable and helpful with fine/thin hair advice for me. The young lady that was her apprentice (I am terrible and forgot her name) was also very pleasant and I loved how she styled my hair afterwards. When I moved here after college, a coworker told me about First Edition and after 8 years, I've never looked back! I have never had a bad haircut or color, even when i decided to be a redhead and then go back to blonde 4 months later. Whether its a regular cut and color, or the many wedding updo's I've experienced (including my own) I've had a great experience. And for a treat their facials are fantastic, as are their eyebrow waxing and manicures. Since they don't accept tips, I've been referring friends for years. And its great to have a sincere hello from everyone at the reception area when you first walk in. They remember your name and make you feel like a princess, which is what i think a salon should do. I made an appointment with Jenna after reading the reviews on here and I was so very happy with the entire experience. The salon itself is so cute and comfortable. Jenna was so easy to talk to and get along with! I've been growing my hair out from a buzz cut since last November and just avoided touching it it as long as possible. Okay so this place is amazing when you want a change in your hair styles be it a simple hair cut or a change in your hair color. I am always nervous when it comes to trying out a new salon. But this was a good decision I made. I wanted to get partial highlights but I wasn't sure of the shade. TERI Is amazing. I showed her a couple of pictures saying this was what I wanted it to look like and she started working on my hair. She took her time. No hurry and always made me feel comfortable. Wow! This was one of the best hair coloring experiences I've ever had. I just moved to Bloomington from Austin, TX, and was very nervous about trying a new hair salon. I knew I wanted to dye all my hair darker, and I finally settled on First Edition since it had great reviews online AND used Aveda products. I could not be happier with my hair color. Couldnt be happier with my experience with them. So, what started out as something that could have been awful was handled in such a professional and kind way that I cant imagine anyone coming here could ever leave upset. My hair reacted poorly to the dye, so it did not turn out the way it should have. Instead of glossing over it Megan (stylist) was the first to mention it didnt turn out right (instead of waiting to see if I would notice) and immediately took action and was able to get everything corrected. It turned out better than I originally imagined and Megan went above and beyond to make it that way. It's one thing to know how a business handles when everything goes smoothly but it's nice to find a business that can handle a curve ball and still go above and beyond for the customer. The best salon in town!! First Edition is the only salon I've never had one bad experience with. I'm picky with my hair color, and I have cried in my car after so many color appointments at other salons. But I've never been disappointed with my color from First Edition!! My previous salon changed hours and first edition was open on the weekend. I was able to see Jackie same day and they even called back to get me in earlier. Everyone was super friendly and it was really affordable ($40 and they don't accept tips-see website). I was afraid I'd pay more than I wanted. I got an up-do done for my wedding and not only did my hair look great, but there is such a warm/friendly atmosphere that really put me at ease. Seemed like the staff knew everyone's name! Okay. I'm gonna tell all of you that I have not had a professional haircut in 16 years. Yep. So, I was very leery, but I knew that I needed my very long hair cut by a professional. I could not be more happy. Meghan washed and cut my hair and she was so, so very professional and so nice. She explained why my hair had gotten so dry and what to do about it. Meghan used Aveda shampoo, conditioner and Aveda's leave in conditioner in my hair. It hasn't been this soft in a long time. I was so excited about how nice and welcoming everyone was, that I made an appointment for "professional" highlights in which I have not had in 16 years. Yay! And get this: this salon is a NO TIP Salon! Yes. You read this correctly. I was shocked to learn this. Their philosophy is that they are Licensed Professionals and no other Licensed Professionals (nurses, doctors, chiropractors, etc.) takes tips, then why should they. My hair was cut and styled by Rachel, who had excellent communication and made it obvious that she truly cared about doing what *I* wanted, which in the world of haircuts, is a miracle. She did precisely what we talked about, and I walked out of there with exactly the haircut I wanted. I even liked the way she styled my hair, which hardly ever happens. This is a no tip salon, so I'm going to refer away!! I have very curly hair with major damage from all the straightening.
