Got a price from Jose for $ 3100.00 to trim. Palms, ficus, birds of paradise and trim 2 pepper trees. My husband had already gotten a price for 1300.00 for. The same job. I guess cause Im a woman?? Although happy with the tree trimming company I'd been using First Class did such a great job on my neighbors large trees that I decided to try them. I'm So Glad I Did. I have 12 large trees on my property. If you don't want to do it, no problem. they will do it anyway without you permission when you turn around. Now, they will charge you a lot of money. If you say I don't agree with it, they will say you are talking advantage of them. They will threaten to dump everything on your driveway. They were actually trimming my neighbors trees and I asked them to give me a bid for my 70 feet tall palm tree. $750 was the original quote. When I said "too much ", he said $650. I said I'd like to get bids from your competitors. By the time he was leaving he was down to $500. Again I said I wanted to see other bids. Five minutes later he came back and said $400 and we'll be here tomorrow. "Deal!" I said. They showed up earlier than they said. They were in and out in about 40 minutes. They did an absolutely spectacular job, including trimming the bark all the way up as far as they could go. The tree looks perfect but, best of all, you'd never know they were there. We got a huge job on our backyard: trimming the Podocarpus Tree, removing a very old giant pine tree, removing two Hollywood Junipers, removing two large Liquid Ambers, removing one large Ash Tree behind wall, and grinding remaining roots of two Liquid Ambers, and trimming two more trees. They came to my door on a cold call visit because they were working on a tree down the street. They gave me an estimate on trimming my olive tree; so I said OK and we made an appointment for the next day at 11 AM. They hadn't shown up by 12 PM, an hour late, so I called. The excuse I was given was that they had just called me. I was at home and both my land line and cell phone were near me and no one had actually called. Then they wanted to postpone the visit until the next day. I was pretty angry, so did not have them trim the tree. If you value reliability this business is not for you. read more

It is rare in the contracting world to find a group of hard-working, honest people who do what they say they are going to within their original quoted price. Juan and his crew from FIRST CLASS TREE SERVICE; (in case you want an excellent job with tree service...805-832-5575) not only performed all of the work we asked them to do (several tons of tree removal and trimming) but they also made sure to ASK us if this is how we wanted out trees/yard to look before they removed /trimmed our trees! Our project involved removal and stump grinding of a couple of large trees as well as trimming seven other trees. It also included planting a young tree in place of a 30-year old tree that had outgrown our yard. Juan called me back within 5 minutes of calling (several other 'tree professionals' I called never bothered to call me back). The bid from First Class Tree Service was much better than other 'local' bids, but what sealed the deal was when I asked Juan how much he wanted me to pay up front and he told me "we don't want a dime until you are happy with what we've done".... I thought he was kidding but he's that kind of an honest guy. More importantly, he did not up-charge me after the project. First Class showed up on time and performed admirably. We have had our trees trimmed several times over the years and have always been let down by "arborists" who show up in over-priced trucks to give their similarly over-priced 'estimates'; but never seem to show up during the actual work. Our experience is that the typical 'arborists' have their people do the heavy stuff first (tree removals) then half **** the trimming on their way out... Trimming was the most critical aspect of our project, it's what makes our yard look nice and accommodates (in our case) neighborhood privacy considerations. First Class has it right - they brought in their trimmers first - before any major chainsaw activity - and made sure we had the right 'look' before removing the large trees (Removal is easy for anyone with a chain saw). First Class has the right formula, knowing that people do not want a lot of branches and trees sliced off, they want a nice looking yard when the work is done. I would not hesitate to recommend First Class Tree Service to ANYONE in the area! This company is truly a class act. read more

I had Ray and Jose give me a bid for my giant eucalyptus and ficus trees and a beautiful olive tree. They beat my other bids by a fair amount and during their work they offered to cut down a couple of other dead trees and haul those away as well. Don't hire these people unless you speak Spanish. The service is a total bait-&-switch. The 2 men I dealt with when purchasing the service disappeared to be replaced by a team of Hispanic workers who spoke no English. They butchered my tree, leaving barely a leaf or branch on it, even though I had clearly explained what I wanted initially. All my attempts to stop what was happening were fruitless as they did not understand a word I was saying. They just nodded, smiled, and continued what they were doing. To give an example of the skill and intelligence displayed: they cut off whole branches that had electric lanterns hanging from them. I've had 4 lanterns hanging from 4 different branches of that tree for 20 years. Electric cords are fixed to the branches. Even though I repeatedly pointed all of this out to them and told them to protect the lanterns and wires, they deliberately cut one of the branches off. The only reason all 4 lanterns didn't end up crashing to the ground is because I was constantly yelling to stop. As for the overall job, I wanted the tree thinned, not reduced to a few empty sticks. My tree is ruined, and the electric lanterns will all have to be moved or rewired after 20 years. I could have received the same level of competence by driving a truck to any Home Depot parking lot. Perhaps these people could be trusted to cut down a tree or pull a stump out of the ground. But if your job requires any amount of good judgment or sound decision-making or communication, go elsewhere. read more
