The hotel felt very safe throughout our stay. Since it was hosting the South Korean national team, there was additional security, road closures, and a noticeable National Guard and police presence, which added to the sense of security. As a Marriott Platinum member, we received complimentary breakfast vouchers each morning. The breakfast buffet offered a good variety of options, and there were also à la carte items available for an additional charge. The room was comfortable for two adults. Our view overlooked a nearby apartment complex on the east side, so it wasn't anything special, but it wasn't an issue since we spent most of our time exploring the city. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its excellent location. It was an easy walk to Expo Guadalajara, where the official World Cup shuttle buses departed for Estadio Akron, making transportation to World Cup matches very convenient. One unexpected highlight was finding a hot dog and hamburger cart near the OXXO on the northeast side of the hotel after looking for late-night tacos. The food was surprisingly good and worth checking out if you're hungry after the nearby restaurants have closed. The only disappointing part of our stay was the bar experience. The bartender was not particularly welcoming. On two separate occasions, he approached us to tell us that outside food and drinks were not allowed in the common seating area near the bar. While I understand the policy, the interactions felt unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. One night we ordered two drinks while watching a World Cup match at the bar, and the bill came to about 600 pesos, which felt overpriced for what we received. One thing to keep in mind is the price. During the World Cup, rates were close to $1,000 USD per night, which I don't think would have been worth paying out of pocket. Fortunately, we redeemed Marriott Bonvoy points, making the stay an excellent value. Overall, I would stay here again if I'm ever in the area. Helpful front desk staff, comfortable accommodations, and the Platinum breakfast benefit. If the bar service were friendlier and the drink prices more reasonable, it would have been an easy five-star stay.

On a brighter note, the bed was exceptionally comfortable -- the mattress and pillows were truly dreamy. I haven't slept that well in a hotel, not even at The Ritz or Mandarin Oriental! Addotionally, I was disappointted to find that the Mujeres Latina marichi group---one of the Hotel's primary entertainment highlights-- has been replaced by a lower-level performance mariachi. It's very unfortunate they were doing road construction directly in front of the hotel, but surprisingly that didn't interfere with our stay one bit. Yes, maybe a little of traffic, but what do expect? The rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable. They had a beautiful display of past Mexican icons for Day of the Dead in the lobby. They also had a rooftop pool, but I cannot comment on it since we were pretty busy exploring the town and never made it up there. I would say I would definitely stay here again. Very historical. It is part of the luxurious Quinta Real brand, which often places their hotel properties in historical buildings. The Guadalajara property was actually built in 1986, but constructed as a traditional colonial-style hacienda on land once owned by the Martinez family. It has been described as an oasis, and that is a perfect impression. When you step inside, you're enclosed by high stone walls, reminiscent of a castle or palazzo, surrounded by lush gardens, birdsong, splashing fountains, antiques, and artwork by artists such as Sergio Bustamante. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in and elegant indoor/outdoor restaurant. Everything is hushed and refined, in direct contrast with the noise and traffic just outside the doors. The very best part of the experience, however, was the impeccable, accommodating, and kind staff. We both felt so pampered, without any sort of stiffness. ours was a truly wonderful stay and we cannot recommend the Quinta Real enough.

We really appreciated the level of security to the rooms. The aesthetics of the Hilton are stunning. While the restaurants and bars inside weren't occupied when we passed by they were very inviting. Our room was a king room with all the amenities one would expect. The mini fridge was operational which is nice as that isn't always the case. The lighting didn't have any guesswork and the bathroom facilities including the shower head were all luxury level. Whether you're on business or leisure, having access to the Expo, Midtown shopping and the Fresko grocery store makes the Hilton Midtown an excellent stay.

That festival is gorgeous madness, but at the end of the day, I so looked forward to walking through the Hilton's clear glass doors and feeling that calm wash over me. This hotel is wonderful, the best that I've found in Guadalajara. Check in was smooth, and the entire modern hotel is spotless and well-taken care of. Wi-Fi accessibility was flawless. I was there around Christmas, and really loved the enormous Christmas tree in the lobby, though the Gingerbread house could use some love ASAP; I didn't know it was possible for a gingerbread house to be sad, but here we are. My room was spotless and clean, although it could use a little more color in the decor; overall I think some love is needed to take these rooms from good to great. An update of the art, of the phones and of the TV would go a long way. I had great service everywhere from the staff: from check-in to the friendly baristas at the Starbucks, to the waiters at the restaurant who took my order with a smile even though I was wearing pajamas and barely conscious. I also appreciated the currency exchange in the lobby - that made my life so much easier. The only complaint I had was the quality of the room service, which is to be be expected. Room service on the whole is never really great by it's very nature. They offer an international menu on which everything is good but nothing is great. The Alfredo was good, the chocolate cake was meh, the Cesar salad tolerable, the pizza barely edible. While it could have all been better, it's still room service. I learned early on that if I wanted good food, to order room service from the Cantina downstairs. Their guacamole was among the best I had, and their cheese and beef quesadillas wrapped in a steamy spinach tortilla and topped with pico de gallo was delicious. I had a ludicrously early check-out and there was someone there at 3AM, smiling and friendly and ready to help me. I also appreciated the native Mexican vendors that were set up in the lobby, which made it easy to get gifts for friends and family. If you are staying in Guadalajara, or attending anything at the EXPO, you cannot get more convenience or luxury than the Hilton.

Certain things like the room space and hotel amenities were good, but they are also standard offerings (like a gym or impressive lobby) that I don't think should be praised when they're expected. I got a room with a king sized bed which was nice, but the pillows were like pancakes. They started out fluffy and then flattened the minute I rested my head on them. I had to use all four just to get comfortable. The shower door was either installed wrong or had started to lean over time because it did not form a complete seal when closed, so water seeped out onto the floor every time I showered. The WiFi did not work in the lobby and kicked me off periodically throughout the rest of the hotel. The morning of my check out, I was awakened by construction noises coming from a room above or adjacent to me that proceeded to last for hours. The lounge chairs by the outdoor pool were so uncomfortable, as they didn't have any cushions and were positioned very low. I could feel the bars in the interior frame digging into my body while I laid on one, and the material they're made from gets really hot in the direct sun. Plus the pool sits out on the rooftop mezzanine facing a main road that gets some large vehicles and other traffic that can be pretty noisy. Not very relaxing. The gym was pretty small and didn't have much variety in machines/equipment. When I tried to dial the room service number from the hotel phone, it would just give me a dial tone sound. Some things I did find helpful however were the currency exchange desk in the lobby and the proximity of the hotel to a taxi stand. Plus the health and fitness level included a barbershop and a spa, which is something not frequently found in most affordable hotels. It's also walking distance to restaurants, a Santander bank, the expo center, etc. Overall, I wouldn't choose to stay here again. In fact, I had stayed a few nights at the Westin next door and was much happier there. However the Hilton was surprisingly affordable, so you get what you pay for.
