If you're traveling from the airport to the city/the city to the airport, the Tram is absolutely…read morethe most efficient, cost-effective, and fastest way to travel. There are plenty of signs throughout the airport indicating where you need to go to get the Tram (though, heads-up, depending on what gate you're coming from/going to, it could be a very long walk). Pass the enormous E D I N B U R G H letters outside the airport, and you'll see the ticket kiosks (pricing is currently £7.50 for a single, or £9.50 for an open return - the better value! I think you also save 50p if you pre-purchase online). Trams to the city from the airport run every seven to ten minutes, it takes about thirty to thirty-five minutes from the airport to either the Princes St or St Andrews Square stop (admittedly, I've never traveled beyond these two stops). There's spacious luggage racks to store your bags, plenty of seats for everyone, and it's noticeably clean as well. Make sure you have your ticket on you so they can check it (because they will). This is definitely the least stressful way to travel to/from the airport!

Unfortunately, I ascertained that they had -neglected- to bring their tickets, based on a huffy, loud, and lengthy conversation with the train conductor. Like any public transit the person next to you can always be hit or miss, on the way out there were no problems, other than the guy two rows back had a persistent smokers cough. Return was no problems. The buses have wifi which is surprisingly fast- I got a 5Mpbs download - fast enough to support Netflix. It's cheap and in my opinion worth the other passenger risk.

From the bus station in the city centre one can travel to Dundee, Dunfermline and St. Andrews via Stagecoach. Prices on these services are generally a lot cheaper than going via train. To Glenrothes the train costs about ten pounds from Edinburgh. However, via Stagecoach you can get a cheap day return for only five pounds and fifty pence. A bargain! There are some downsides to Stagecoach though. Services are sometimes late due to delays at the Forth Road Bridge. Also, some services are very busy and one can be sitting next to someone who is larger than their seat or smells slightly of Body Odour!! Not very nice at all! If you want value for money, Stagecoach is pretty good!

We used the ticket machine but a helpful employee also checked on us to make sure we're weren't having any problems. She then directed us to the next tram. It was very easy. I know that many in our tour group also used the tram when they arrived in Edinburgh and they had no problems either. The ride was uneventful, and quick until we arrived in the city. The tram was clean and quiet and we felt safe using it. As a visitor, I am aware that any discussion regarding the tram can get very political and heated but we really liked the convenience. We also had no problems buying tickets at the station when we traveled from St Andrews Square to the West End a few times. As it was festival season, the trams were quite crowded at times but the ride was always smooth and quick enough. We didn't use it when we returned to the airport as our departure was at 3am but if ever the tram ran all night, we would certainly use it.

That cleared up very quickly once I was directed to the Lothian office near Waverley Bridge. Five minutes later, I was waiting at my stop and five minutes after that, I was in the front row of a double-decker on the way to my destination. The bus ticket is surprisingly simple and very clever. I purchased three, as I'm here three days. Each one has a series of scratch offs for the day, month and year. You just scratch off the right date and you're good to go. Nice. The buses I've ridden have been clean and prompt. While the ride may be speedy, the roads are a little bumpy. I think my driver yesterday actually missed one of the drains! They also have an iPhone app (jeez, there's an app for everything!) so you can find the nearest stop and when the bus is due to arrive.

Lots of terminals so make sure to check the schedule to see where your train is at. Sometimes schedule changes so also be aware. There's a good amount of quick and easy eating places. Coffee shops as well. Right in the heart of the station, you'll find a couple of things to do. Mainly grab a drink if your waiting for your train.... lol... There alway security on hand if you have any questions about anything. The stations where you get on and off the train is pretty long so it could be a walk to exit if you're coming off from the end of train. It's a couple of flights on the escalator till you reach the top. There's an indoor waiting area as well as public restrooms. But if it's your first time, it could be a little intimidating finding your way around. Also a few different ways to enter and exit.

The taxi arrived 50 minutes late so I missed the event. When I complained, I was advised that when you make an advance booking, central taxis guarantee a taxi but not what time it will arrive!!
