The Taz set the stage for our most amazing day of our trip to Alaska. We went whale watching on the…read moremorning trip with about 20 other people on The Taz. Coffee, tea and granola bars are provided and there is plenty of viewing room inside and out on the deck (where we spent most of the time). The captain and our tour guide both provided us with tons of interesting and informative information about the area, the habitat, and the whales. And the boat got us incredibly up close and personal with the humpbacks- we were so close, we even got sprayed by their breath (smells fishy, in case you were wondering!). We saw tons of whales and even had a young one that kept swimming right up to the boat. It was the most breath-taking thing I've ever seen! We had a few hours out on the water and plenty of whale-watching time. Plus, there is a hydrophone on the boat, so you can hear the whales talking and clicking and singing underwater- it was the coolest thing I've ever heard! I wish we had gone out a second time -this trip is completely worth it and so much better than whale-watching on a big boat (like the Glacier Bay glacier day cruise) or cruise ship. Don't miss this trip. Make reservations in advance and call a few days ahead to ask about recent whale sightings - they might recommend you wait or go earlier to see the most whale action. We ended up going two days earlier than our planned trip as the whales had been busy feeding and we didn't want to miss it. Also, bring a warm coat- its cold out on the water once the boat gets going!

I like that they offer freshly baked pastries to go along with various coffee drinks they serve. This is a standard coffee shop that doesn't have a dining room. It's all window service. They're located directly across from the tram in downtown Juneau. Perfect for grabbing a coffee and pastry before heading up the tram or walking Franklin Street in downtown Juneau. I didn't try their coffee yet. I may grab a cup before heading out of town tomorrow. Each visit I bought a baked goodie for a dessert or breakfast option. I like that their baked goods are individually wrapped and neatly placed in plastic cubby hole containers directly fly in from of their coffee stand. It's grab and go. Don't forget to pay before you go! Each staff member I spoke with has been friendly. They come across as polite too. Not the "just pay your bill and leave us alone"mentality. I recommend this place as a coffee or coffee and pastry option. They're reasonably priced as well. Will visit again before I leave town.

Finding this tribally owned coffee shop with a welcoming LGBTQIA flag in the window was the perfect sign that we had picked a good place to hunker down on a cold, rainy and dreary day that made exploring Juneau too tricky. My friend wanted to get some work done and I wanted to read my book. I warmed up with a delicious hot Alaskan Fog beverage then enjoyed a fresh smoothie. The staff at sacred grounds was friendly, the drinks were delicious and the restrooms were super clean. We took an Uber from our boat to the coffee shop since it was raining but the rain had lightened up considerably while we were at the coffee shop so we were able to walk back to our ship.

After purchasing 2 drinks and sitting down, I felt the urge to use the restroom. When the barista brought the drinks to my table, I asked if I could use the restroom. Their policy is that restrooms are only for the handicapped and elderly which seems a little overly discriminatory. I mean, it should either be for paying customers only or not. Instead, she told me there was probably a porto potty outside in the parking lot. She didn't tell me exactly where because I don't think she really knew. I had to look around for a few minutes before I finally saw it. You have to exit the shop and walk to the right through a few parking spots and there's a porto potty on the curb.
