When we arrived, immediately noticed that the restaurant is very small and mostly a place where people grab and go. We sat down, however, and they provided amazing table service! I noticed that the pizza slices on display were not Neapolitan style, but rather thick rectangular pieces (Roman style). We all tried the margherita and it was very good, but some people may prefer a thinner style of dough. Then, reading the menu and seeing Bruno, the owner, pulling freshly baked bread out of the oven I started to think that we were in for an outstanding exprience. At first I thought the bread might be for complimentary bread at the table, but it was for panini. In that moment I decided that I would try the calabrese. It was an authentic, delicious and deeply satisfying choice with the right amount of olive oil and extremely high quality salami. Reading the menu I noticed that the ingredients for their pastas are authentic as well, such as guanciale, pecorino and egg yolks for the carbonara. Ordered the carbonara and the amatriciana. The amatriciana was very good with balanced influence from the guanciale and tasted fresh. The carbonara was even better! One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Perfect texture and the right balance of the egg, pepper and the guanciale. Exquisite. I liked this restaurant so much that I decided to go back before leaving SF. The second time we ordered all the same things and added their "special" panino. Bruno himself took the time to talk to me and ask me about my preferences. He then gave me one half with mortadella, pesto and a generous portion of a soft cheese (ricotta or something similar) and it was just delightful. He told me that he makes a batch of fresh pesto every other day. The other half of the sandwich had high quality prosciutto, sweet peppers and thick slices of mozzarella that was really delicious as well. I love prosciutto so naturally I loved this sandwich and the peppers elevated it even more. By the way, in my opinion the prices are more than fair! I encourage everyone in SF to eat at this place and by doing so support a small business with a dedicated owner.

As the name suggests, they sell focaccia but currently as sandwiches and pizza. I didn't see nor ask whether they had just focaccia bread to sell. I wasn't even hungry but the smell of bread convinced me otherwise. I just got a slice of their margherita pizza, and it is filling! The crust was crisp with a nice char. The bread was tall, nicely aerated, and pillowy soft. The tomato flavor was soft against the basil and olive oil, but still delicious. The inside space has a few tables, but my slice came out fast so I imagine turnaround time to be quick too. And it was nice listening to some Italian pop/rock music while waiting. I'm definitely coming back to get a sandwich!

And it's rich, so with the rice on the side it's a complete lunch. Chef's Favorite: I'm no stranger to lomo saltado; it's actually my favorite Latin American dish. However, after having many different versions over the years, this is the first time I had it with Huancaina Pasta. So much richer than rice! Kinda tastes like a spicy alfredo. Sometimes the pasta overpowers the lomo saltado taste and sometimes it pairs nicely. I guess it depends on much pasta you put on each forkful (tip: less is more). Meat Lasagna: Decided to try one of those Italian offerings and it was pretty darn good! I especially appreciate the abundant amount of sauce added to the big lasagna slice, so there's no chance of it being dry. It was a nice pink creamy sauce with some ground meat, so could have been good even on regular pasta. The lasagna had big thin layers of pasta and thin layers of meat, with a modest amount of cheese. Very filling!

Multiple rounds of drinks, dinner, and dessert later, we were on our last round when the host came over and asked us if we were done, and he needed to turn around the table. All with a condescending tone and smile. They had been waiting for 25 minutes, which was, as he made clear, our fault. Mind you, our food came out and paced our evening, which was not an issue for us. I understand needing to seat a table, but pushing out large groups who had a reservation? On a week night at 8:40? Alright. We hadn't even finished our last round of drinks, but left after feeling pressured to do so. What an interesting way to end a celebratory dinner. RIP my leftover espresso martini I love supporting local restaurants. But I've never experienced being pushed out of dinner by a host before.

I had a great experience, remembering their meat lasagna (Garfield's and my favorite), was one of the better ones. Coming here on a Wednesday around noon, most of the indoor tables were taken and the counter was pretty full too. I saddled up to the further counter seat from the entrance and was quickly given a menu. Debating on what to order, I stuck with my plan, having lunch and bringing home something. I really enjoyed having my food hot especially my routine of reheating food at home. It is so clean tasting and I was alternating bites of the sandwich with the pickled jalapeno. I wrapped the other half in Saran Wrap and refrigerated, reheating in a couple days later and pairing it with a salad for dinner. It does reheat well in the toaster oven at low heat open faced. There were only two people working the restaurant in the front of the house, the food maker and bartender/waitress. There were some customers who stopped in for a cup of cappuccino or expresso only and others who dined or enjoyed a beverage of their choice while having casual conversations. Thank you to Mallory who took my order and tended to most of my needs. Thanks to the chef for making my meal and packing and delivering my take home box. Do note that the menu is not very large but, from what I tried, the food is really good.
