Perfect beer pairings for all of the menu options, my wife had a Quidi Vidi Bakeapple sour (I opted for a cherry beer from the same Newfoundland brewery) to accompany her lobster feast while my son had a pop with a terrific burger. Shortly after we ordered, one of the servers ran down the few flights of stairs to the docks and then remerged grinning from ear-to-ear with our unbelievably fresh lobsters in a bucket! While on the topic of staff, they strike the perfect balance in attentiveness (present but not pestering) and are knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance was somewhat casual but would certainly suit a more formal evening of dining as well. The price is a little steep but, considering the quality and portion size of their servings, it is quite understandable. Take it from this gob-smacked prairie boy, if you're in this area, this is a GREAT bet for supper.

There are about 6-8 tables and one waitress. It is dated but has a charm to it - I liked it others may not. The first time we stopped here I tried the Cod Tongues and fries (first time ever) They were interesting (in a good way) having never had them before, but I can tell you they were moist inside with a thin, light outer batter - the batter is really good. I would have these again in the future. The fries are hand cut and also very good, I like soft fries over crispy these were between soft and crispy - the other in our party enjoyed them. I also tried for the first time the Crush flavours of Pineapple and also Birch Beer. These are just cans of pop not something prepared. The second time I returned I had a two piece pan fried fish and chips and requested one piece be cod and the other be salmon - they said they could make that happen - delicious. This was a simple shop with simple decorations and simple food done right. Pan fried fish had a light tempura style batter, good sized, very firm pieces of fish. This time I added a piece of pheasantberry pie. Everything was a 5/5 stars - The fish, the fries, the pie were all tasty and a really good value. I think if we had been there a longer period we would probably have returned for a third time :)

Sadly the worst meal I had in Newfoundland…read more The location here is quite nice, along a harbour with a lack of cellular service (although wifi is available here). The menu options were quite vast, and there were some special options available off the menu as well. I had the "Treasure Chest" to start, which was cod bites, calamari, scallops, and shrimp served in a bed of fries. This was probably the best part of the meal, as the portions were big and the seafood was relatively fresh. I also had a French Onion soup, which was unfortunately awful. Shredded melted cheese was simply not it. I shared mussels with my parents, which were some of the smallest I've ever seen. It was quite plain, it said olive oil and garlic was supposed to be included, but I barely saw it. Finally there was a crab au gratin on special, which I decided to order with onion rings on the side. Similar to the mussels, the crab was small and there was barely any meat on it. Service was also quite rushed. My family felt like they were trying to chase us out even though it wasn't completely full. Can't say this was a good experience overall sadly.

Gayle and I visited Trinity during a recent cold and foggy weekend and enjoyed dinner here on a Friday evening. As I'm the "gift shop" guy in the family, I went upstairs the next day to take a look. As with almost anywhere in Trinity, walking here was relatively short and pleasant. Here are my thoughts: The Gallery/Gift Shop has some nice local crafts and really nice local art to put on the wall. However, through a combination of "our walls are already full" and "this or that doesn't speak to me", I left with only a Newfoundland coin for my efforts. My advice is that if you're here, you should definitely take a look. Now the Restaurant, which is one of the few in Town. - We sat inside by the windows with a nice view. Outdoor seating was available, but on an evening like this, there were no takers. - The Dining room was attractive, comfortable, and felt like I was in my home town. - Our wait staff were friendly, welcoming, and very interactive about where we were from, local perspectives, and what things we could do in the area. - Our meal was very good. Over 3 glasses of shared white wine, I had the Chowder and a Caesar Salad, while Gayle chose the North Atlantic Scallops. When in Newfoundland, Seafood is what's for dinner.
