We were seated promptly and enjoyed some refreshing cocktails while deciding on dinner options. Our server directed us to the Cod Gratin which is a traditional Newfoundland dish. We each ordered Cod Gratin and a Caesar Salad to share. This was a perfect combination for dinner. The Cod Gratin was amazing. Tasty pieces of fish in every single bite with a cheese and sauce that I would call coastal comfort food. So delicious. We didn't have any room for dessert but definitely enjoyed our dinner choices tonight. Skippers is a nice comfortable place for dinner and they have live music certain days of the week.

The closest experience I can think of after spending a really nice weekend in Trinity was maybe Mendocino, but without the tourist hordes. The Twine Loft Restaurant was very charming, with stellar down home service, and delicious food options that the kitchen was happy to tweak. We both enjoyed the rustic modern dining room, the romantic ambiance, and the view of the water through the window. Our only regret here was that the weekend we were here was cold and foggy, so there was no real sit on the deck at sunset (or sunrise) option. Dinner was extra special at a fixed price of $65 plus beverages. Gayle chose the Moroccan Lamb Shank with Yogurt Mint Sauce (served with Lemon Herb Israeli Pearl Couscous and Roasted Vegetables), while I went for the Atlantic Salmon with Mango & Pickled Onion Salsa (served with lemon roasted potatoes and roasted vegetables). We shared that an a nice bottle of Canadian wine.

Perfect beer pairings for all of the menu options, my wife had a Quidi Vidi Bakeapple sour (I opted for a cherry beer from the same Newfoundland brewery) to accompany her lobster feast while my son had a pop with a terrific burger. Shortly after we ordered, one of the servers ran down the few flights of stairs to the docks and then remerged grinning from ear-to-ear with our unbelievably fresh lobsters in a bucket! While on the topic of staff, they strike the perfect balance in attentiveness (present but not pestering) and are knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance was somewhat casual but would certainly suit a more formal evening of dining as well. The price is a little steep but, considering the quality and portion size of their servings, it is quite understandable. Take it from this gob-smacked prairie boy, if you're in this area, this is a GREAT bet for supper.
