    Salmon with lemon herb potatoes

    Great night out with a beautiful sunset to watch while having drinks on the patio. Service was great and so was the food. I enjoyed watching the chef prepare the courses as they went out.

    What a beautiful spot. Found this place by accident on a day trip from St John's. They had a cancellation and fit us in. The cottage was rustic and very pretty with a beautiful deck overlooking the cove. Meals at the Inn were delicious.

    Great location and place. Stunning view from back deck and they even provided us blankets while we had our delicious cocktails outside. Service is exceptional & they provide a great experience.

    Very charming restaurant in a out-of-the-way place. Food was good, service was excellent. $$$$ would be more appropriate.

Yet even in inclimate weather, the scenic outports, the rural landscape, the friendly residents, and good Irish-influenced music made us feel right at home. Port Rexton beer seemed widely available for purchase in stores (Salted Stout anyone?), so at my suggestion, Gayle and I came in here for Lunch. She knows that Brewpubs are a favorite of mine and I thanked her again for indulging me. Ours was a perfect part of the afternoon. We ordered our delicious beers at the counter, along with delicious grill cheese sandwiches (mine with prosciutto) from the adjacent "Oh My Cheeses" "food truck". We sat comfortably in their "living room" by the fire on this cool and cloudy day. And since we wanted to stay "just a little bit longer" we ordered another round! Service was friendly and welcoming, just like what we experienced throughout our Newfoundland trip. WiFi was good and among the available reading materials was a local "coffee table" book about a Toronto couple who left city life 25+ years ago to start a B&B. They're still here and the title is: Taking a Chance. We can see why they did.

NOT ACCEPTABLE. No explanation provided. It's a shame really because is a lovely place. I should add that this was not the first visit but it was the last. Previous visits were better but only marginally. The service isn't great and the food isn't worth waiting for. However, they do have a good selection of beer.

Windows and doors wide open you feel the fresh air off the water. Couldn't ask for a more perfect way to spend the afternoon or evening with friends or family over a drink +/- food. Despite the pub fare focused menu I threw caution to the wind and ordered the vegetarian pizza and it didn't disappoint. Good size for 2 people, light, airy, yet chewy crust (?wood fire oven) and full of flavour. Paired with a Mill Street Organic Lager and you've got a great Saturday evening meal. Our waitress was fantastic! Super warm and friendly. Made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. I give The Stone Jug 4/5 stars only because they do not have many "vegetarian options" on their menu (fish & chips, salad, and veg pizza) AND the building is not easily accessible to folks with mobility challenges; there is no wheelchair ramp.

    Miserable Food - Not recommended - Not at all what we expected from a quality restaurant!…read more Here is a report about our experience on Thursday, the 18th of July, 2024. Our party of 4 adults (2 senior couples) arrived before 7 pm to have a steak dinner. The Mystique dining room looked good on our cell phone and we were looking forward to a delicious and enjoyable meal... They claim on their website: "The Mystic Dining Room offers casual dining at its finest, with an excellent wine list to complement the experience. Set in a cozy and enchanting atmosphere, guests can enjoy a blend of local and international cuisine." But we left VERY disappointed and upset at 9pm after not eating most of the food and returning a complete meal... Here are the details: First: We ordered shortly after arriving. We waited and waited and nearly left (I wish we had) until around 8:20, after more than 60 min of waiting, our food arrived. Details of each person in our party and their experience: (Note: none of us likes to complain) The best meal: Filet Mignon I asked for very well done - not at all red - and as usual I explained to have it butterflied to make sure it is 100% well-done (most cooks do not enjoy cooking filet mignon that much, but that is how I like it). The meal arrived, i cut into the meat, and it was only medium done - all red in the middle. I sent it back, and it came back nearly well done - still a little pink, but I ate it, and it was tender and tasty, as was the mushroom gravy served with it. Also served with it were sliced carrots - nearly raw and broccoli - overcooked. I opted for smashed garlic potatoes as a side, and they were very piecey, dry and at best lukewarm. Next: 8 oz New York Style Strip Steak with grit in the salad... My husband had the 8 oz ny strip steak, he asked for it to be medium-well, and it was okay, (more medium-rare than medium-well) but the meat was very thick and very tough. Same as mine, the carrots were nearly raw but the broccoli was overcooked. He had a salad on the side, and ate some with good appetite, but then bit on sand or something gritty and stopped eating it. My friend had the Prime Rib Steak - excessively spicy cesar salad... The prime rib steak was okay, but tough. She noted the cold veggies and asked to have them replacec with a cesar salad. This was done, but no mention that they gave her an extremely spicy variant without telling her. It was so spicy that she couldn't eat it although she usually doesn't mind spicy food... Now the WORST: her husbands 8 oz ny strip steak. (see image) I can only say that the best part of it was that he was not charged for it after he complained and returned the plate. He had ordered the steak to be medium-well, but not only was it extremely thick, and when he cut into it, it was not only tough, but the blood came dripping out of it - it was cooked rare at best, and he was disgusted and felt grossed out by this bloody "blob" with a very thin crust. They offered a substitution but since we already had waited for over an hour he refused and did not eat with us this evening. So, he returned the whole plate and watched us struggle with our meals. That said, the servers were very nice and apologetic. It seems to be a kitchen issue. We asked for a discount, and as an added insult they gave us a whopping discount of less than $8 on an around $123 bill...(for the 2 meals of one couple) and of $6 for the one meal of the other couple...

While the Sinbad Hotel could benefit from a magic carpet cleaning, The Mystic, a no frills and no spills spot was clean and neat and so I decided to give it up and eat here because 1. It was either here or the strip mall across the street. 2. It was 3 floors below my room. 3. It was open. 4. I'm lazy on a good day. The Mystic Bar is all wood and I felt like was eating in someone's Dutch Clog, but it was cheerful in a deserted sorta way and the Bar Tender was friendly, maybe because I was the only person in the place and maybe I'd been the only person in there that week. The one splash of decor was two 1980's video games and two poker machines. Not quite Laughlin, Nevada, so let's just say this was a Laugh. I settled in and read through the extensive menu (think of War and Peace deep fried). The Bar Tender recommended a Quidi Vidi Light Beer, which I ordered just because I liked the way it sounded when I said it. It's so Roman, isn't it? As if Julius Caesar stood before the Senate and stated in a stentorian voice, "Quidi Vidi Beer" instead of "Veni, vidi, vici". The World might be better off today if he'd actually said it. Me? I came. I saw the bar. I drank the beer. The Staff: Which way is one? The lone Bar Tender juggled tending bar while tending to the patrons (me) with efficiency. The Vibe: Who goes there? Apparently only one other Yelper who loved the pizza which is no longer offered. And then, of course, there was me. The Bar Program: A full one. Plus, there was beer, although there was nothing on draft. No big deal, I drink draft dodgers and that's why God created bottles anyway. My brew was nice and cold...I'm sold. The Food: Be prepared. The food is fairly pricey for being in the tired Sinbad Airport Hotel, and then Gander, NFLD ain't exactly Paris either. A ranched Elk was $48, the Chorizo Chicken Enchilada was $28. You can go to the hottest Italian spot in LA (Felix Trattoria) and pay $23 for hand made Tonarelli Cacio e Pepe. Okay, Felix requires a couple of long flights from Gander, and attempting a booking exactly 28 days out one second after midnight with the aid of a rapid fire computer like hitting the button on Jeopardy. With The Mystic, just stumble in on a whim and eat. The Chipotle Caesar Salad (I thought this will just be good for the roughage and to file off the rough edge of being hungry). Then, I thought, naw, this is not going to work out and tried the catch the Bar Tender's eye. My Sinbad (on both). Good thing the Bar Tender was too busy to catch my plaintive plea. The Salad was stellar, truly. The creamy dressing had a sharp zip to it and there was an unexpected mound of real bacon buried in the salad big enough to coax the PETA People away from The Flat Earth Convention. Next, the Sinbad Burger was a serviceable diner burger, if a hair on the dry side (which is better than a dry hair on the side). The 6 oz patty was a fatty and tasty treat with all the usual suspects on board to make it a classic burger. Tomato, Onion, Lettuce, Pickle, Mayo, Mustard, etc. It came with a huge hill of Fries. All in all it was definitely a yeoman Burger. The Sinbad Wings were sinfully bad to the bone. A dozen flats and drumettes fried just right, and served too hot to touch right out of the fryer along with a moderately spicy Wing Sauce waiting patiently. Those terrific wings held onto their crunch like Trump and his tax records. Every wing I could reach stayed crispy throughout me gnawing on them like a happy Hyena. The meat was moist, chicken-y, and tender. Somebody at The Mystic knows exactly what they're doing and that makes me think that the pizza probably was really good too. The Wing Sauce was a perfect tangy balance to the crunch quotient. And you also get a Ranch Dipper in case you're spice averse. Use one or the other or double dip (your face will look like the flag of Mexico when you're done.) That's why I'm a wing man, and happily so when they are this good. You don't need a Mystic to tell you this place is worth a go. But let me look into the future and tell you I'd definitely go back here every time I find my self taking a gander around Gander.
