We came for lunch (cod burgers and lemonade), which was exceptional, so came back for dinner. Their cod bites, scallops wrapped in bacon, caesar salad, seafood stew (with cheddar biscuit), and blueberry pie (a la mode) were exceptional. We're stuffed... and happy! The staff were warm and helpful. The owners could not have been more hospitable (including driving us boat people around to fill jerry cans with diesel, buy ice, buy groceries, and get it all back to our boat on a rainy day). We were staying in Bonavista for a few nights and our Airbnb hosts recommended Mifflin's for dinner. We dropped by at just the right time, as a table for two was getting cleared up. This is a cute, family run restaurant, with homestyle meals. The portions were very generous and we left feeling full and satisfied. The mussels in marinara sauce were the special of the day and just amazing. This was by far the best dish we had on our Newfoundland adventure. We also had the chowder and Newfie sampler. The chowder had a ton of ingredients. The sampler wasn't really our style as we weren't familiar with Nl food. Both were good, but the mussels were the real star! read more

Stopped in here for breakfast during our stay in Bonavista. There are two reviews here that complain about slow service. I think the need to reflect on where they are... it's rural Newfoundland, it's a different pace, it's what makes the place charming. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken - morning teas and coffee. I am a believer in eating as a local when travelling. I ordered the Toutons with molasses, fried bologna, and baked beans. I had a side of multigrain toast with homemade Pheasantberry jam. The other three people I was travelling with do not share my attitude toward eating like a local and ordered things you would find on a menu at Smtty's (dummies). The toutons and molasses were delicious the beans tasted like they were made in house. The pheasantberry jam is the star of the show - so good we ended up buying some at the next store we found that sold it. Service was laid back but very friendly, in fact the waitress created some combination of tea bags for two of my fellow diners to create a custom flavour. It was a unique regional experience that I would recommend to anyone travelling to this region. It is an eclectic decor and friendly atmosphere with good prices and quality food. read more

We had a delicious dinner here this evening! Seafood chowder, salmon dinner and roast beef dinner. All very flavourful! The rolls were warm and homemade and the service friendly and warm. The homemade lemon meringue pie and cream-sickle dessert were also delicious. Would definitely recommend and will eat there again! read more

I have to break this down into two reviews, one for the food and one for the service. The food was phenomenal. Everything we had was delicious. Fish cakes, sandwiches, soup and dessert were all winners. Food: 10/10 The service was extremely slow, so only go here if you have lots of time on your hands. We waited 10 minutes to find out if they had a table for us. We sat outside (which was much more pleasant than the oddly decorated and dark interior) and waited 20 minutes for a menu. Another 20 to give our order and a full 30 to get just our drinks. The wait would have been much more bearable had we been given our drink orders so at least we'd have something to sip on while we waited. By the time we left we'd been there over two hours, and most of that time was spent waiting. There was no apology or explanation, and the staff didn't seem to be very efficient in taking or delivering orders. Service 2/10 read more

Our experience here was not amazing, and almost a 1 star. We came in to an almost full restaurant (a total of maybe 6 tables?) and one server. The prices were pretty high but better then some of the other stops we made. The decor is... odd. We sat in a table beside a cabinet of porcelain dolls and China dishes. We waited about 6-7 minutes for our orders just to be taken, and then easily another 35-40 for our food to be delivered. When we finally got our food, despite my clearly impatient and annoyed face, we weren't apologized to for the wait or anything. So I guess that must be normal here. The experience we had was crap, but the breakfast we got was actually pretty good. Large eggs, toast that wasn't burnt or dripping with butter, hashbrowns were great, and I was impressed with the home made pork patty. So, even though the food was great, everything else was not so I wouldn't go back. read more

So the reason I didn't give it 1 star was because the food was pretty good, although the prices were high despite the food being basic. We waited like 15 minutes just to get our menus. the drinks came out in maybe 30 minutes. overall everything moves really slow here. the staff was really nice but they didn't reply for the long wait. they also didn't even check up on us once. read more
