I've had two disappointing experiences at this restaurant. The first was a few months ago. I was excited to finally find a place in Regina offering risotto as a main course. Unfortunately, what I received was nothing close to risotto--it looked like mashed potatoes with cream cheese. When I asked the waitress what type of rice was used, she didn't know and had to check with the chef. She returned saying it was Jasmine rice. For anyone who appreciates authentic cuisine, risotto should be made with Arborio rice, cooked al dente, and prepared with the right ingredients. Calling that dish "risotto" was misleading. Despite that, I decided to give the restaurant another chance because it's close to my workplace. Today, however, I had an extremely uncomfortable experience. I had made a reservation for two yesterday and requested specific dishes (soup and salad). This morning, due to work commitments, I asked the other person to cancel the reservation. Shortly after, I received a call from the owner. His reaction shocked me--he was rude, aggressive, and argumentative, even as I apologized. Instead of trying to understand the situation or find a solution, he kept escalating the conversation. When I tried to mention customer service, he was completely dismissive, so I ended the call. I overlooked my first bad experience and kept going back, but after today, I will never return. Think twice before visiting--if this is how the owner treats customers, imagine how he treats his staff. read more

The locals and the neighborhood loves this place! It seems like it is always full in the evenings even on a week day. The waitresses are pretty nice and have friendly personalities. The restaurant isn't too small or big. A lot of people enjoy sitting on the patio in the sunlight. The food here seems very classy and high end. Mostly modern Italian options. I had a craving for the French Onion Soup and Garlic Bread. It was pretty savory! Very onion-ish and the thick cheese on top was gooey and chewy. read more

Fantastic location. Fireside Bistro is located in a residential area in the core of Regina. The restaurant is in an older house which gives it a great local business vibe. The service was prompt and courteous. I ordered the cinnamon bun pancakes. The dish was delicious and decadent. Portions are quite good and the flavor was great. The issue here is it is missing some variety in dishes for those who are vegan or vegetarian. The dishes rely on heavy ingredients such as lots of cream, oil or sugar. We went to the fireside with another couple as our wives had decided to treat us to Father's Day brunch. Our friends were regulars and had always raved about the Fireside. My wife and I were first time customers and looking forward to eating here. Between the Brunch and Lunch menu there is LOTS to choose from, with some pretty interesting and creative choices. Be prepared to pay up though, the average entree will run you somewhere between 14-18ish bucks, cheap eats it's not but we didn't expect it to be either for a restaurant of its reputation. Our waitress had us with drinks in hand quickly and kept the water glasses full; which If you have read any of my other reviews know I like a cold glass of water at my table in very short order. When it came time to order I tried to order a menu item where I asked for a ingredient to be left off the dish due to an allergy. Easy enough I thought one less thing for the cook to worry about and a little less food cost. The waitress replied she was hesitant to ask the cook to leave the item off because he gets in a bad mood when it's busy and does not deal well with making changes to orders. I gotta say this made no sense to me at all, especially being a retired alumni of the line cook profession and dealing with add ons and take offs on almost every other order. In our business you bend over backwards to give the customer what they want and how they want it, busy or not, bad mood or not. So this was total BS from my perspective. I then asked for a plain old waffle with some fresh strawberries instead of the normal strawberry compote that comes in a sugary sauce. Being a type 2 diabetic I was trying to keep my sugar intake at a reasonable level and still be able to enjoy a brunch favorite, here too the request was impossible to accommodate and I was left having to scrape off what sauce I could along with the melted whipping cream haphazardly thrown on my plate. I was left totally disappointed by my waitress, their moody cook and the Fireside in general. My wife ordered a beef dip and all i can say is don't bother you can make one better at home or email me I'll give you a recipe for a far better one. Her sandwich consisted of pre packaged beef similar to what you may grab from your local deli at the supermarket and some sliced onions that were way undercooked along with a slice of cheese topped on some rock hard crusty bread and accompanied by a beef juice with enough sodium in it to turn Wascana into one of the great salt lakes. To be fair our guests who loved this place still love it and pretty much licked the food off their plates and were totally thrilled with their menu selections. I however was left totally unimpressed with both the food and our waitress and will not be returning. My requests were minor and should not have been a problem to accommodate at all and her excuse for not making those minor changes was sad and pathetic. With this attitude I cannot believe this place enjoys the rep it has and is still able to keep its doors open in such difficult times and challenges for the foodservice industry. Tbe Creekside falls short at several levels and I will happily spend my money elsewhere where my business is appreciated. 2 too many stars, a gift really based on the fact our friends enjoyed their meals. On our meals and experience alone I would give it a 1. Don't waste your time or money on this place. read more

A-OK restaurant. Located in a home converted into a restaurant in a residential neighbourhood. Big portions. Food tastes decent. The prices are on the higher side. Mains are between 25-35$. Mains come with a side of seasonal vegetables and oven roasted baby potatoes or rice pilaf. You can upgrade it to risotto for 1$ up charge, but the risotto didn't quite taste like risotto as it was without truffles or butter or Parmesan. It was rice with vegetables and some milk. Tasted gross. We ordered a blackened catfish with creole shrimps. It was pretty spicy. The dish tasted okay, if I hadn't shot myself in the foot with the risotto. read more

You could miss this place in the winter if you drove by too fast. It's located in a house right on the corner. In the summer they have a fire place in the middle of the patio out front. The Lounge is a little tight, but the combined seating in the dining room downstairs and upstairs make up for it. They even have a 30 person party room on the second level. It is beautiful. The atmosphere is perfect for a night out with friends if you don't want a rowdy scene. What I ate was delicious, the beef rib eye and it was on special. Was here for breakfast. Really interesting building, lots of little rooms and private spaces to enjoy. Order the breakfast pizza which was INCREDIBLE. Pizza dough, with hollandaise sauce, bacon sausage and ham, a layer of egg, then a ton of cheese. So good I may have to figure a way to make this at home. Good service, great value. read more

Great food. Terrible service. Visited this evening and although the food was good the service was terrible. I'd like to start by stating I am someone who believes in saying please and thank you and in treating others with respect especially as someone who has worked in the service industry. In the case of this visit though it felt like a situation where the waitress prejudged our group as bad tippers and tailored her service as such. My standard for tipping at dinner is 20% and the service has to be bad for me to waiver as I tend to look for the best in people. I went with a group of five where three of us met the other two who had been there having drinks and an appetizer while waiting. One of the guys had ordered the beer on special only to be brought a different beer and was told they were out of the beer he ordered. No big deal but he felt obliged to stay with the beer which was brought although in the end he was charged more than the special price. Upon sitting with our friends and waiting a bit out drink order was finally taken. After delivering the drinks the waitress disappeared and failed to return to our table until we flagged her down a half hour later walking past out table to inquire about getting a menu as we were there for dinner. We were brought three 'bar' menus for five people whereas others around us were given the full menu. When a member of our group inquired about getting the full menu we were brought one for the five. After ordering the waitress refreshed our drinks and then the food came quickly. The food itself was excellent. I quite enjoyed my steak with blue cheese and the garlic fries were quite tasty. While we ate the waitress did not check in to see if we needed anything or to refresh our drinks (or even our waters). A brief appearance was made to collect empty dishes and after another lengthy wait we finally asked for our bills. After receiving our bills we waited and waited and then waited some more. Finally we asked another employee if we had to go somewhere to pay or if they brought the machine to the table. The other employee promptly brought the machine so we could pay but our original waitress was nowhere to be seen after the bills were dropped off at the table. As mentioned I normally tip 20% but this was an evening where I didn't leave a tip (and I hope the waitresses' are required to pay a portion of their total to the kitchen). A tip to me is for good services rendered and not just because you exist and hold a position that normally receives a tip. I also don't feel like I should have to go out of my way to get service at a restaurant. In the end great food but unfortunately terrible service. read more

The service was great and we even discussed the reviews with our waiter and she said that at noon time they don't have enough staff. We went at 6pm on a Saturday night, and yes the food is excellent. My mom knew this place 20+ years ago as Upstairs/Downstairs and it was her favourite then too. This place does have quality. The atmosphere is definitely tops if you like quiet and relaxed and a good noise level for talking with friends or a date. I had the caesar salad and stuffed mushrooms appetizer. Probably the best caesar salad I have ever had (along with O'Hanlon's), made with homemade dressing. The mushrooms were a tad undercooked but I'd forgive that because the food is still good and that's an easy fix. The food did take a while, but you're going to get a good meal here. And the atmosphere really makes it an enjoyable place to eat. I never got to eat here in the summer but the patio looks really nice and I would have loved to. read more

Before I start I should point out that this rating is based primarily on the attitude of the service staff rather than the food itself which was quite good. The problem that I had with this place was the attitude towards us because we had our five year old daughter with us. They had no kids menu which didn't bother us to much, but it would have been nice to have. Also they wouldn't cook a smaller portion of macaroni and cheese for her, which again didn't bother me too much. What really bothered me was even though she was behaving perfectly as she always does we were constantly getting glares from every service staff member that ventured our way. I couldn't understand why she wasn't loud at all and this was at lunch. The whole experience soured me from this place forever. Joel read more

Not particularly a fan of their outdoor patio menu (too many fried/ greasy items on a platter), however their sangria special made up for that. The higher rating is mainly attributed to their dinner menu which is quite versatile, the chicken dishes were well prepared. I was visiting Regina & my friend said we had to go to this restaurant so we ventured over there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was quite nice out so we wanted to sit on the patio. When we got to the restaurant we waited for about 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us waiting for a table (though several passed us while we stood there.) We were finally asked if we had been helped yet, we said no & requested a seat on the patio. The waitress didn't think there was room out there so she went to check. We were then asked 3 more times (and once again by the original waitress) if we had been helped. We pointed out again that we were waiting for her to check the patio. Again we were told she'd have to check. By this time there was quite a line up forming behind us. Finally the waitress came back and offered us a patio table. There were 3 open tables so I'm not sure why they thought they were "full" and why the wait took so long. The waitress took menus out with her but after seating us took the menus to another table. We sat and tried to get the attention of several servers in order to get menus - about 10 minutes later a waitress came to get our drink order, I asked if we could see a menu in order to see what they had for cocktails. It took her 7 minutes to bring us menus. When she took our drink order, my friend ordered Earl Grey tea. When the waitress came back she brought a tea assortment & said she "thought there might be Earl Grey in there, but if not you can choose something else." There was no Earl Grey so I went inside to ask at the bar if they had any and was told they were out. Our waitress passed me & asked if my friend couldn't find a tea she liked, I replied that she had ordered Earl Grey, not "an assortment". The waitress' reply was "oh really?". Uh, yeah. It took quite awhile for her to come back for our order, but the wait for the food was reasonable. The food really was the saving grace of the Fireside Bistro. It had an original & fresh menu with lots of choices for lunch. My friend had a salad & I had a crispy chicken sandwich. Both were very, very good! (And more than filling!) The portions were generous & the price points were great for the amount of food. Our server never came back though to do a food quality check, nor did she offer refils until she cleared our plates. All in all, their food was fantastic, but their service left a lot to be desired. There were 3 servers on staff and no more than 10 tables being served inside & on the patio. With that ratio one would expect more organized & attentive customer service. I'd like to go back next time I'm in Regina to see what their dinner menu is like, but I would hope that they either offer more training or have a more experienced evening staff. read more

The restaurant is a converted home with a lot of character. The lounge is a small, but I prefer the deck when the weather is warm. The service is friendly. The menu is interesting and has a good variety of food. The halibut with cashew sauce and the jerk chicken were the best of the dishes we ordered. I went here in May but this restaurant came up in conversation so I thought I would share my experience. Food was great, but as said before, terrible service. Me and my boyfriend ordered burgers and fries and had to wait over an hour. Everyone was being served and had food flying out while we waited so long. We got weird looks from the server, probably because we weren't fancy middle aged white people. Went there for a drink and appies after work. We asked for the appie platter for two but wanted to trade out the coconut shrimp for calamari. Waiter told us "chef doesn't like to make substitutions on the platter because he is already losing money on it. The only time he will is due to a seafood allergy." So I said I was allergic to shrimp and we had chicken wings substituted. I don't actually care if chef is losing money on the platter. I just want to eat food I'll enjoy. When it came it was good. Usually it's a safe bet for lunch and I like the deck. However I went there a few weeks ago with my son and his girlfriend for brunch. The service or I should say the lack of it was the worst I have ever experienced. No one was interested in serving us. In fact one server provided a very long explanation why she couldn't serve us if we were waiting for a table on the deck and considering how much time this took, it would have been so easy for her to get us some coffee at least! Our original server finally turned up after we again had to ask for someone to serve us! However,she was the rudest person I have met in a long time. I really am very puzzled why she has a job in customer service. Even if she was having a bad day, there was absolutey no excuse for her condescending behaviour and rudeness. We left very upset and it took us quite some time to calm down. We ended up going to Ricky's Grill and couldn't believe the contrast in experiences. Ricky's staff were friendly, efficient and honestly cared that we were being looked after. Thank you! I won't be returning to Fireside Bistro and will be contacting the manager/owner to discuss my experience. read more

2 people of our dinner party of 6 had a chicken dish. Later that evening these same 2 people developed symptoms of food poisoning. 1 of these 2 people's symptoms were quite severe. When the owner was contacted the next day to inform him about the mere possibility of them having had contacted food poisoning at his restaurant he became instantly, and extremely hostile, foul mouthed, and belligerent. He demonstrated no concern what-so-ever about the possibility of a health concern, and to be frank..... was a totally JERK! read more

First visit we ordered the desert, and it was amazing that we went back for more desert. At the time I ate there each desert was about $7. Not long after I went to Costco and found the exact desert menu in the bakery section. I was completely shocked!!! I was also very disappointed in this restaurant for buying their baking from Costco. So far the food is good, that is all I could say that is good about eating here. The staff has been giving my family and I terrible service. They're treating us like second class people. The server doesn't look eager or happy to take are orders or to help us. It took them 20 to come to our table to get are drink order and it took him 30 min to get our food after we finished are appetizer. So far I'm happy with the kitchen. I am sure the food is good but it looks like "Whites Only" dining is up and well at this restaurant. Got passed over for another gentle man when it came to seating. The other gentle man brought up a couple of times that I was ahead of him, the seaters response with a twinkle in his eyes was he would have to find the right place to seat me. Great food, very cool atmosphere, friendly servers but really not a place to take a child. I brought my son and i had nasty stares and the waiter was quite upset that i had my son with me. He is a 2 year old so he not quite but hes not overly loud. Seemed like they were annoyed that i brought him with me. i ordered a pasta dish and it was incredible, and the appy was amazing so great food, just don't bring your child if you don't like being glared at. read more
