Dec 2024: This was my first time here. I was seated with a rather large group. The atmosphere really reminded me of an English pub which I liked. For food, my boyfriend ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger ($21) with French onion soup ($7.5). I ordered the Bacon Mushroom Swiss Burger ($22) with Truffle Fries ($3), a white sangria ($10.5) and crème brûlée ($8) with strawberry compote for dessert. Prices are before tax and tip. The BBQ Pulled Pork Burger and french onion soup were alright. The sangria was absolutely delicious! I highly suggest it. I absolutely loved the mix of peach, pear and orange juice. The crème brûlée was extremely delicious. Best in Regina. Seriously ! And the Keg charges the same price for a THIRD of what Lancaster is offering. I also think their recipe at Lancaster is better. The truffle fries were decent. They were cold unfortunately but I was with a rather large group so I'm not going to fault them for it entirely. I actually think they would have been awesome if they were cooked a little warmer, a little crispier and didn't come with the sauce. I prefer a garlic, truffle and Parmesan flavour for the type of fries. The burger itself was actually pretty good. If it had been warmer, I think the patty itself would have been moister. That being say, it tasted fresh. Honestly I was wondering if it was mixed with bison because of the flavour. I throughly enjoy a gamey flavour and this burger had hints of it. Honestly, this burger is very close to being the best burger in Regina that I've ever had. I want to return and get a genuine sit down dinner experience with no more than 4 people. A large group of my wife's family and I went here between the wedding and reception to kill some time and have some apps. The staff did a great job considering two large groups walked in at the same time on a Saturday afternoon when it's supposed to be slow. They called someone in early and tried to catch up. I was a little bit behind the group so I got missed for my initial drink order and had to order at the bar. Understandable. The server got me for the next round and for my food order. I grabbed their pretzels which was HUGE. Definitely want to share this dish. They have a great cocktail list. My first round was a beer, but my second beverage was their twist on a dark and stormy. For the last 5 years my husband and I have been saying that we need an actual craft-cocktail bar in Regina. A bit of a risk, will the traditional cheapo Pilsner drinkers of Saskatchewan pay $14 for a cocktail? Well, it's time to find out. We went to the soft-opening of this place the first Saturday night they were open and made a reservation for 6:30pm. We stayed for a couple of hours, making our way through 5 different cocktails between us and several of the tapas plates. Even though I was born and raised in Regina, we travel a lot to big cities, and one of the things we enjoy are craft cocktail bars. We first fell in love with the craft cocktail scene after visiting our first proper cocktail bar in San Francisco (Bourbon & Branch) several years ago. We've also been to Dead Rabbit/Employees Only/Bathtub Gin in New York, and Toronto's Barchef. The thing all of these places have in common is the quality of their cocktails. This is not just a rum & coke with a twist of lime - it's fresh ingredients and home-made bitters, and every cocktail is more of a recipe than a drink. You may have heard this movement referred to as "mixology". Might sound pretentious, but if you enjoy a fine restaurant with inventive food, why not a drink of the same calibre? The drinks do take a little bit longer to come out because they are creations (think of them more as ordering food that takes time) but they are worth it. You can sure taste the difference between lemon juice from a plastic lemon and freshly squeezed, trust me. Well, the drinks here definitely were worth the wait. Sure, they run anywhere from $8-15, but with 1.5-3oz of booze in each they are actually not a bad deal if you care about that. (I've easily paid $8 for a crappy double rum and coke at Boston Pizza - haven't we all?) I tried the Brambleberry Gin Fizz, the Sangaree Swizzle and the Hemingway Daiquiri. My husband had a Black Tea Whiskey Sour and a good ol' Sazarac - a traditional 'dude'tail', not for the faint of heart. Our waiter gave the tip to let the Sazarac sit for 5-10 minutes and drink it slowly, it allows the sugar to permeate the drink and makes it even better. My favourite was the Brambleberry fizz - I'm a real gin lover and this was delicious. I look forward to seeing them expand the menu with more drinks in future. As well, if you're not into cocktails they also have Rebellion Beer on tap (thumbs UP to that) and a nice wine menu. We also enjoyed some of the food and kept ordering after finding each dish consistently good, we made our way through the Rosemary Ale Sticks (wish there were 6 instead of 4 though!), the Charcuterie/Cheese Board, Cod Cakes and Tortilla Espanola. The Cod Cakes were absolutely to die for - the fish was so perfectly done and flaky it tasted more like fresh halibut than cod! As another reviewer said, this place doesn't even feel like Regina. It's got an excellent big-city feel that surprisingly wouldn't be out of place in Toronto or New York. So glad to have this place here - will be dragging my best pal here tomorrow night for a second round. Definitely looking forward to the music too! read more

I came here for brunch and bottomless mimosas and they don't have champagne. I mean seriously who screwed up so bad that they don't have champagne for all you can drink mimosas. Very upsetting. Went there for supper with two other couples. The atmosphere is really cool, you feel as if you are in high end place. Excellent cocktails I had the Dark and Stormy it was amazing love the taste of ginger beer, not your basic rum and coke. I had the chipotle chicken great plate presentation, the sauce was really nice with the veggies and mashed potatoes. Although the sauce was nice I was hoping for a little more zip. It is great to see a beer tap list that includes local craft breweries. The online reservation is easy to use and sends you reminders. We will return again for the cool vibe and schedule our evening around some jazz music. read more

It was very chill inside the place. Went after work around 430pm. It started to gradually fill. Definitely have patience since there were only a few servers and it does take a while to get drinks and food. The food was really good, but remember it's SMALL portions. the guys in my group were a little disappointed. These are not appetizer chain restaurant sizes. This place is good for a small snack, good drinks and then going somewhere for food. Alternatively, a late night drink with a light snack. We went for a resignation party. The front door was accidentally locked when we got there, but promptly opened by what seemed like a regular going through the backdoor to get them to open it. They were attentive. Went for Mexican night and it was soooo delicious. Had the skirt steak and chicken enchilada. The taste was authentic and exceeds all expectations !!! The Lancaster - The Capitol in Regina - Jazz & Blues Near Me - Regina, Saskatchewan

Food is small portions, tapas style. Chef is going for stylish presentation, too bad the taste isn't as good as the look. Bocconcini salad came as a tomato sliced and then rearranged to look like a tomato with the slices of cheese between the slices of tomato. The cheese was more like a firm mozzarella and the tomato also crunchy to the bite with no flavor. read more

Went out for a couples date on a recommendation. The website menu looked amazing and the specials made up our mind to also try it out. We ordered according to the nights specials. We waited for the specific time to order drinks so we could get in on the special prices. Waited a half hour for a drink that was the same price a half hour earlier!!! The food was not as plentiful as the menu suggested and certainly not amazing. When questioned about the bills incorrect pricing the server said it was his fault he mistakenly told us the specials started at 6pm and not 8pm that were the Friday night specials. We were seated before happy hour ended and actually waited for the so called better pricing. Then the apology about his mistake consisted of a verbal sorry without any reflection on the actual billboard! Not planning on coming back. read more

This was our second time here. The first time, there was a mixup with who was to be serving our table, resulting in a bit of a rush for our curtain. Staff apologized profusely, round of cocktails on the house, food was rushed but good, no harm no foul. We wanted to spend a bit of time and enjoy the place. We were greeted promptly, had a reservation, and got a table near the front. Then we waited. Eventually someone came by and explained that the bartenders were going to be serving our table, but they were waiting for the third bartender to arrive. A drink order was taken and it took 15 minutes to get there. Meanwhile, someone else came by and did we want to order a drink? Yes....waiting for the ones we ordered 10 minutes ago. This did not bode well. It was Friday, busy but not slammed. Tapas place: We wanted to know about the oysters as the menu said "ask your server" - what kind were available? It took two servers to figure that out. We ordered half a dozen, and when they arrived 20 minutes later, asked which oysters were which? Nobody could identify them. The oysters were good - with four sauces on the side. The cocktails were also good. We were about an hour in to our dinner with one cocktail and three oysters apiece to show for it. Next : the charcuterie plate. Again: menu said, "ask your server" what was all on the plate. It took FOUR servers to figure this mystery out. One actually said, "I didn't memorize what the cheeses on the charcuterie plate were..I just got here". Buddy: I don't expect you to have it memorized. WRITE IT DOWN. It showed up eventually and was good - some nice toasted bread and the citrus olives were excellent. But the cheeses remained a mystery. Draft beer: again, the menu said, Seasonal Selection. What was the Seasonal Selection? It took two servers to figure that out. Ribs: they arrived as if they had been taken out of the cooler. Asked the server, were they supposed to be served cold? Nope, they are a hot tapas dish. He took them back. They showed up again a few minutes later, again, chilled. We were nearly laughing out loud by this time. The third round of ribs arrived and were at least warm. We ate them and they had a good flavour. Between the second rib dish and the third, some other server asked if we'd like dessert? Um...well....we were hoping to finish dinner but..... After the ribs, eventually we got to the bill and left. The ribs were taken off the bill. GOOD STUFF: all the servers/bartenders were pleasant, eager, and seemed to be trying hard. The food (both first time and this time) was good, and some of it was very good. Atmosphere was excellent. Online reservations are a great feature. Place is attractive and clean. BAD STUFF: There was no one server responsible for our table and very little organization it seemed. Nobody had a clue what the other was doing. Server knowledge was terrible. As notes above: if the MENU SAYS "ASK YOUR SERVER" THEN THE SERVER NEEDS TO HAVE THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE. Saying "Umm I can find out" and disappearing for 10 minutes is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Drink service was pathetically slow. It is Friday night at 6:00. Getting a cocktail 25 minutes after sitting down doesn't cut it. Get your staff together and ready for your business. We knew, as we were waiting interminably for our drinks, that it was not going to be a great meal. And it wasn't. There are aspects of this place that are terrific. I would like to see it succeed as the bones are there: atmosphere, interesting menu, some excellent food, some excellent cocktails, some well-meaning staff. But it has a long way to go before I'll risk another Friday night there. I will give it a few months and maybe try again, but in the meantime, there are many other places in Regina that are executing much, much better, and they'll get my business meanwhile. read more

Capitol really commits to the concept! I really liked the atmosphere. The style and music really capture a jazz bar. I really like the craft cocktails made with great ingredients. The wine list consists entirely of unusual selections. The charcuterie platter and lobster roll were very good. The service was very good. We will be back. read more

Tonight I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at the Capitol. First thing, they had the live performance (which is what originally drew me in), but the music was so loud i literally had to shout for my friends to hear me. It made for a really awkward dining experience when it's supposed to be an "intimate" environment. Second, our waitress was very inattentive, I ended up getting my own drinks from the bar and requesting other staff members to send her over. But the biggest problem i had was near the end of the night. The sandwich I had ordered came with additional ingredients that were not listed on the menu. so my beef sandwich also came with tomatoes and arugula that i didn't know about. I have an intolerance to tomatoes and asked to send it back after taking only one bite. The waitress took it back no problem, but the manager refused to change my bill because he believed i was drinking a Caesar (which was actually my friend's) and accused me of lying about my intolerance. It was a terrible experience and i will never return. read more

I came to Regina for a visit after many years, and was thrilled to find this place. It's gorgeous, the atmosphere is well-conceived and perfect, drinks are creative and well-made (!), clientele and servers were friendly and fun to watch (yay bartender with twirly mustache shaking cocktails all night long), and it was still buzzing late. I didn't get a chance to hear the live jazz. I really, really want to rate 5 stars, but I can't quite do it. Although all the snacks our party of 6 ordered were beautiful, one of mine (the patatas bravas) came with a large dollop of a tomato-y sauce that was very thick and had a really deep dark flavour. I'm used to it having a much brighter flavour to balance the fried potatoes & aioli in the dish. Apparently The Capitol is recently opened, and Regina is lucky to have such a cool and wonderful place. I'd be here multiple times a week. Thanks Capitol for a great evening!! read more

This place is okay! Drinks are expensive, but they are hand crafted. So dont expect to go here without spending lots of money. The food is very unique and good, however I wouldn't recommend going there unless you are not a picky eater. When they have live music, its really nice! Id probably say this place is best suited for a date night. read more

The Capitol is my favorite restaurant in Regina. The service is very friendly and personal. They are always willing to suggest a beverage, even before you are done with the one you have. Paella was pretty good but other foods were quite salty to my taste( especially mushroom Toast. ) Haven't had chances try other dishes. Oysters were out when I ordered. Want to try other dishes. The portion is really tapas size. So be aware . Drink price is little higher than other neighbourhood pubs. But same range as beer bros read more

Went to the club thursday evening for supper and to listen to the music. The meal was okay, the service was good. The entertainment was advertised as beginning at 8 pm. The entertainment didnt start until 9:15 pm. If the entertainment wasnt going to start until after 9pm they shouldnt advertise it as starting at 8 pm. We would have gone to the club later for supper. Our first time at the Capitol Jazz Club and Tapas Bar was, indeed, CAPITOL!! The tapas were outstanding, the service engaging (familiar and new faces) professional, and courteous, the decor stunning and intriguing, and the jazz music was a welcome change from 98% of other Regina restaurants. The only hiccup was two desserts were misplaced and melted before arrival. However, we happily gobbled them up before rushing out the door to catch a local theatre play. We'll definitely be back to the Capitol and recommend it to our friends! read more

First off, the look of the outside when you walk up is very nice, and clean, like a well kept vintage cinema. Once inside you are treated to a polished interior, with a long corridor, that allows for lots of seating, but not cramming in tables by any means. We were further back in the restaurant which allowed us to really soak in the atmosphere. To be honest, by the end of lunch we didn't feel like we were in Regina, with the good upbeat tunes, the smells coming from the kitchen, and the nice décor. Food was awesome, we had 4 tapas meals - paella, tuna, pork belly, and duck crepes. My favorite was the pork belly (even the side corn style bread was a highlight), but the paella was a close 2nd. Pricing was very very reasonable, as these 4 dishes came out to less than $40, so for the 3 people we had, we split nicely and everyone was satisfied quantity wise. Would definitely like to go back for supper to enjoy the menu and especially the drink menu looks good. Definitely going to be a favorite spot downtown! read more

We attended with a larger group with a reservation. We had one extra person, who was not allowed to stay as the staff stated all the chairs were taken even though the table next to us remained 80% empty for the duration of our stay. In short extremely poor customer service. The atmosphere was great, music was awesome, the service was lacking lots of empty glasses, and waiting for drinks. The food was good but several items were not available. Overall the experience was acceptable I do expect more from the Capitol next time. read more
