Should have read/listened to the reviews So disappointing. Scare tactics and bad service. After their cleaning I found soot, debris and a dead mouse! I was with their technician the entire time, asked why he didn't use his vacuum that he brought and he said the chimneys were clean due to lack of use. However after his "inspection" he had nearly $13000 of "mandatory" repairs needed if I didn't want my house to burn down. Not to worry, there was a $300 dollar coupon if I signed that day. When I said no, they offered to seal my chimney for around $500 if he did it then and there, if not it would be an additional since they'd have to set up a ladder again. Really?? He pushed and pushed, more and more dire scenarios should I delay these repairs. I had to act fast since there was no time to delay due to scheduling. He cleaned two of the 3 flus since one was in my kitchen but I was still charged since he "inspected" it. I got a second and a third opinion. Both of these contractors agreed these "repairs" WERE NOT NECESSARY but should be done however everything was safe to use. I asked for a refund due to the lack of cleaning, scare tactics and poor customer service. I figured it was a long shot but tried, it was rejected. My chimney was sealed and fireboxes mortar repairs without coming anywhere near their quoted price. I'm no expert and don't doubt these repairs should be done. This companies tactic of dire scenario and house burning down compared to two other licensed contractors stating a polar opposite is very concerning. I felt it was a scare tactic to myself and wife to maximize high dollar "repairs". I plan to make repairs but certainly will not be calling them. If you do call them, I'd highly recommend getting a second opinion. Maybe I got a bad tech, the service lady said he's one of their most seasoned. Bad day? I don't know but that was an overall terrible experience. UPDATE Adam thank you but as you were not here, I asked what that meant and he repeated, maybe a bad joke? Secondly, I was with him as I don't welcome strangers in my home unattended which is why I scheduled for a Saturday. My wife was in the kitchen unpacking as we just moved in. Thirdly, I requested to speak to a supervisor but was offered a technician instead. Yes, I rejected your offer for another technician, why would I accept the offer when I I had such a bad experience? Why would I invite this service back Into my home? Lastly, pictures you requested. Perhaps you have done great work over 30 years but the feeling these were fear tactic pressuring and leaving the debris behind is the basis for my review. Your technician saying he couldn't clean the kitchen because you don't provide kitchen service and charging me all while pressuring us to agree and sign for repairs (for a "only today" 300 dollar off coupon) that were very much disagreed upon by two other contractors. Another great thing about a free market system is that I'm entitled to my opinion based on my experience. Perhaps others have had the greatest experience ever, I did not. I purchased an older home in early 2023, and the previous owners had deferred maintenance on the chimney (for both the wood-burning fireplace and appliance venting) for far too long. I sought two estimates for the work, which involved major work including rebuilding/tuckpointing the chimney above the roof line, lining the chimney, adding a damper and proper capping. Both estimates were similar in cost, but I went with Fireplace & Chimney Authority because they were more responsive and added a couple smaller elements to their estimate, such as the quality of the damper assembly and waterproofing, that made it stand out relative to the other estimate. Once I was ready to proceed, the work was scheduled and completed in a timely fashion with minimal distruption. The masonry work was beautifully done (even neighbors commented), and knowing the chimney is now weatherproof again is a relief. I'd happily recommend them to others, and I will be using them for chimney/fireplace maintenance going forward. Just want to note that most of the reviews that aren't recommended by Yelp are very positive (a lot of 5 stars). Not sure why they're hidden, but don't let the Yelp rating fool you! read more

Do not use the Fireplace & Chimney Authority in Elmhurst they are so unprofessional and will rip you off! We went into the showroom and spoke with Rj, he told us we needed an inspection after we picked out the fireplace we wanted. They charged us $159 for the inspection, they kept trying to up-charge us for everything, like something rusted on the roof to our water heater needs to be replaced. Yes a chimney company wanted to inspect our water heater! It was odd. He gave us an estimate of $20k verbally to repair but wouldn't put it in writing. He told us someone would get back to us with the cost of the fireplace installation, I thought that was the purpose of the inspection? We called 3 times last week, spoke with Caeser and each time we were given an excuse on why it hasn't be received and then told it may be around 9k . He promised to email the quote but again we have never received the written quote that should have came with the inspection. It's been 9 days and we are still waiting on a written estimate and still don't know what it would cost to install a new fireplace. read more

We had a fireplace insert installed by Fireplace and Chimney Authority (FaCA) 11 years ago. We hadn't used it very often over the years but were probably overdue for a cleaning. So we called a local chimney sweep company who recommended we have an adapter between the insert and the chimney liner. He took pictures of our insert connections to show us what he meant. Figuring it was 11 years later, I wasn't sure if FaCA would do anything about it, but I figured I would email them what the chimney cleaner said along with the pictures. Within a few hours FaCA called me. We set an appointment to do the service. Two installers came out and installed the adapter. Talk about going over and above! I do not know of any other company that would go out of their way to fix something 11 years later. Thank you FaCA! We love our fireplace insert and we love your exceptional service. This company installed our fireplace in a brand new build home (and the entire neighborhood). Shortly after moving in, the fireplace would overheat, causing the stones to repeatedly fall off---literally everyone in the neighborhood has had the same problem!!! In addition, an inspector came and said it reached dangerous temperatures on the exterior of the fireplace after one of our children suffered a blistering burn from her pajamas overheating just sitting in front of the fireplace playing. They investigated it, said "well ma'am, they get hot, that's what it does". Obviously, Im not a moron. The fan would run constantly because it couldn't cool down. Fast forward and stones keep falling off. I asked them to repair it (as a paying customer, out of warranty at this point). They refused to help me, stating they don't want to get involved in this case because they "don't want their name on it". Shame on you!!!! And the Nitti Developers. My husband and I bought a Majestic Fireplace with this company. For 3 years it worked very well, but now recently, it would not turn on. I called their offices and reported the problem saying clearly that the fireplace would not turn on. The lady called Amber asked me about batteries, I said I had changed the remote control batteries, she asked me about some other batteries inside the Fireplace, and I said I never changed it, then all of a sudden, the issue seemed to be the IMP-6 box batteries that I never changed, and she asked me if I would like to have a technician to change the batteries and clean the chimney, which I agreed . After the visit and all dustings and fannings plus batteries changed, my Fireplace was still not working , the guy said the box was faulty and he did not have another spare box in his car . He would have to return with the new box, which was not under warranty. He gave me a bill of $299,00 for dusting and cleaning and said the box had to be replaced - around $300,00 plus ANOTHER visit fee of $200,00. I refused to pay and contacted the office, that refused to admit they sent the wrong person, just a cleaning technician, and that I should have said the Fireplace was not working, which WAS THE FIRST THING I SAID. I called in October to have our fireplace serviced. The pilot light kept going out. We were able to get an appointment in November. The probelm wasn't fixed and we had to have them come back in December (the soonest they could come back). A part needed to be ordered so we called to have them come back in January. I was very frustrated by this point. No one was able to hear my frustration. I was talked down to, excuses were made (of course none of which had to do with Covid). Fireplace and Chimney Authority installed top of the line ceramic logs with a remote last December in our new home. We used it a few times and then the remote broke. It took them until April to replace the remote. We did not use the fireplace all summer and fall until November. Here we are again, the remote will not work. We cannot light the fireplace. We contacted them December 1st and explained the situation. They told us the earliest they could come out is January 10. Now the fireplace is making a clicking and beeping sound. They are no help. Called the Lisle location to see if they could install an indoor/outdoor gas fireplace and after a brief hold I was told they didn't have one on displacy but the product is available and to stop in the showroom. Made 45 minute round trip drive only to get the wrong salesman who opened with saying they didn't carry a product like that, then changed to how much it would cost - $12,000 for a one sided unit and double if I wanted to go to the see-through. Finally went a grabbed a binder but said that my project wasn't possible because I'd need a covered outside area. Didn't seem very interested in switching me over to a one sided unit either. It all took 10 minutes or less. Maybe it's because I was a woman by herself, it happens, or maybe I stopped in too close to closing time but you'd think they'd want my $12-$24,000, guess not. A quick call to Southwest Fireplace in Palos and I'm already been given options and ideas as well as a price range lower than what FC&A said a regular one-sided would run. read more

i had a very very disappointing interaction with them this year. Three years ago we used them to install two gas log sets in our townhouse, and they did a fine job. However, Just under three years from the installation - Feb. of this year - the set in the living room failed. I called them, talked to a salesman, who said they would have to submit a warranty claim to the burner manufacturer. I asked if they had a similar burner kit in stock, and they did, but they wouldn't come put it in - "we're waiting to hear from the mfr." This went on for weeks! It was the middle of the fireplace season and my wife was tearing her hair out. We use the living room gas log set every day and night and it is a huge part of the ambiance, of course. I made numerous calls to the salesman, who failed on at least two occasions to keep his promises to call back, then finally started talking to the manager, who was more responsive but who refused to install the set they had in stock. Then he called after two more weeks of delay and said, oops, the warranty was only one year, SO WE WERE WAITING WEEKS FOR NO REASON! I gave up working with them, and contracted with a very professional company whose technician had been proactive, communicative, helpful, and cheerful when he came to do other work last year. He gave me a quote for a new burner, installed, and I just said yes. Fireplace and Chimney Authority clearly did not give me the attention I wanted, didn't listen to the urgency with which I was entreating them to act, to DO SOMETHING, and did not make my problem a priority. Very disappointed with this business. I went in to the store originally because we were looking at installing two fireplaces, one with vent-free gas logs and the other the Dimplex Opti-Myst. When I arrived at the showroom to see the Opti-Myst in person I had to ask repeatedly for be shown the specific unit in question, for it to be turned on, etc. I work in sales, so I realize I have a higher standard for customer service but it was a very frustrating experience. Joe came out to the house and a few days later I received my quotes for the two fireplaces. Everything looked good despite a couple errors in the quotes which needed to be adjusted, but I was ready to move forward. At this point I emailed to discuss dates to start work and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE. I called and emailed several times but NEVER received a reply. This is for a job that was quoted at $11,000 altogether. Needless to say I am very disappointed and will be taking my money to a business that actually wants it. read more

If I could I'd give the Fireplace and Chimney Authority 2 reviews. One for their chimney cleaning - no stars. and a second for the sale and installation of a Mendota fireplace insert. 4 stars. 4 because they did what they were supposed to. 5 stars would require (in my opinion) doing something above and beyond what I would expect from someone who is a competent professional doing what they do everyday. They did clean up after themselves. The reason for the fugly rating on the chimney cleaning is simple. They arrived on time. Yay............... They cleaned the chimney and evaluated its continued viability. Okay............ Unfortunately their equipment sucked (okay bad pun there, my bad). Specifically what I mean is that they came equipped with a $100 Home Depot shop vac.WTF?????? The effect of that was that it took many hours of cleanup after they left to remove the layer of very fine soot deposited everywhere around that room. If I'd been paying attention and noticed the shop vac wasn't a PROFESSIONAL HEPA unit I'd have stopped them before they started. My bad. I assumed they would well equipped and I was wrong. The shop vac had something over the exhaust (maybe a gym sock, I dunno) but it didn't do crap on the DANGEROUS, microscopic soot particles. They could have hooked up a hose to carry the exhaust air outside and it might have saved the day. I'll know if there's ever a next time, since, with my new gas insert, I shouldn't require much in the way of chimney sweeping going forward. I hope. So now YOU'RE educated and warned about a, potentially, messy snag when you get your chimney swept. The chimney sweeping above was done preceding the replacement of our ancient gas log, with the installation of a new, state of the art, (read that as expensive) Mendota fireplace insert. There were a lot of decisions and prep work to be made in the selection process for this sucker let me tell ya (getting a new electrical outlet installed conveniently for the insert for example - Thanks to Kinetic Energy of Oak Park(these guys are the bomb) for a timely install on that.). Thankfully my wife worked her way through all that with our patient salesman, Eric Bigham.The installation process went off without any hitches and the the thing is functioning as advertised 2 weeks into its tenure in our home. The room is very comfortable now with no drafts or cold spots.Can't wait to see our gas bill......................... As noted in other reviews below there did seem to be a bit of tacking on of add-ons. The 10% off coupon for the insert, (not the installation itself or the various parts needed - the $750 ventilation kit and the $350 to replace the old copper gas line with new black pipe (now required by code it seems) for example) relieved some of that pain, not a lot but some. All in a decent experience, other then the clean up after the chimney cleaning. I'll pay attention next time read more

The project went very well from the sales team to the install team. Erik at the showroom was very informative and responsive to my likes/dislikes. I have a very limited window to do projects at my home due to my work schedule and Erik made sure that my project would be completed within a timeframe that worked for me. The quality of the workmanship performed by the install team (Jason/Fernando) was impeccable. I called them the "puzzle masters" because of the level of detail taken to strategically place each piece of stone. The team was very professional, clean and efficient. There were a couple of minor glitches (beyond anyone's control) that were addressed with me in a very professional way. The high quality Mendota fireplace, the gorgeous natural stone and the beautiful alder wood mantel came together beautifully. The finished product is absolutely stunning and completely changes the entire look/feel of the room. Overall, I am very pleased and would recommend this team to anyone considering a fireplace remodel. The overall cost was probably a bit on the high side, but it was well worth it! Classic Bait and Switch!!! Avod these guys! Had these guys come out to clean my Chimney, saw an ad with a coupon for $40 off. 1st visit - after 2 minutes - "Sorry I can't clean your Chimney" " It's too dirty" need to come back for a "Roto Cleaning" OK, I have not had it cleaned and even though I recently purchased the home it may have never been cleaned. Could be on the up and up still! Need to come back Monday for the Roto - will need a two hour appointment and it costs twice as much as the basic cleaning. OK, I can accept all this based on a professional opinion. Come back on Monday - takes 40 minutes - All Done!! Great! Oh that $40 coupon does not apply to our cleaning that costs twice as much???? The one that you said I had to have that takes twice as long?? B.S.!!! Nothing in their ad that says the coupon only works for the cheap cleaning!!! This place stinks!! "Dan" at the Fireplace & Chimney Authority should be speaking to potential customers. He left me a message to change my appointment time. Not only was he unprofessional on the voice mail by not speaking into the phone but also an extreme amount of background noise made it difficult to understand him. When I called back to speak with him, he was rude and seemed uninterested in my business. I asked questions about cleaning the fireplace vs. inspecting. He was very vague and downright rude. I would not recommend a phone call to a company like this. His behavior shows what type of service I would have received had they come to my home. So glad I saved my money and time. read more

I don't know where to start. I order a Mendota fire box with installation in December of 2015 and the unit hasn't worked correctly since. First they replaced the mother board ensuring me that that was the issue. Parts came in two weeks later then a week to get to my home. Unit failed within days. Weeks later they came back and said it was the ignitor. Unit failed again. They just left this morning saying they need to order more parts for the pilot. Parts will take another 1-2 weeks. But of course they are sure it's the pilot this time. I asked them for entire new unit fearing that I got a lemon but they "don't do that". We'll see how it turns out when they return but....I wish I had seen the other reviews before I bought from them. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere for your fireplace. read more
