While I love being outside, and I especially love being on the range outside, some winter days here in Wisconsin can get frigidly cold. So I began looking for a range near where I worked at the time, where I could swing in and get some rounds downrange before it got too late in the evening. This is an extremely well-kept range with knowledgeable and friendly staff, who don't work on commission and won't try to sell you things you don't need (at least in my experience). I've seen people of all types coming and going: slow-fire competitors, IDPA, former military, doctors, judges, people who just want to learn more about firearms and shoot.
Their indoor range consists of 2 indoor rooms with 8 bays each, 25 yards (75 feet). You can shoot any caliber through .308. They have benches there you can use if you prefer to sit or shoot from a rest. Non-members pay a $20.00 lane rental fee. Members pay no fees after their dues are paid; they also get priority lane placement, so if you come in and the lanes are full and there's a line, you will get priority placement. The membership prices are listed on their website, but if you're here reading reviews, I'll throw them in here: as of this writing, memberships are listed at $400/year for an individual or $119 for 3 months; $625 for two people or $185 for 6 months; and $750 for a family (2 parents, all children) or $224 for 6 months.
This range is veteran friendly and does offer veteran discounts on memberships with proper proof of service (ID, DL, DD 214).
They offer a variety of classes, including introductions to firearms, firearm safety, CCW classes, and introduction to sport shooting. They have event nights, such as ladies nights, and so forth. Sundays, if you don't have a membership or have an individual membership, kids shoot free. When I'm there on Sundays, I often sees parents with their children there.
Range rules are solid: no holster draws (without r/o approval); no rapid-fire (without r/o approval); and standard firearm range-etiquette. Flag safeties are not required. Silhouette targets are not only allowed, but are some of the only targets sold behind the counter for range-use.
They have a variety of weapons you can rent and shoot. So, if you've been thinking about that AR but weren't sure, they might have a rental you can shoot. Or if you really want that new HK VP9SK but aren't sure, they might have it available to shoot. I've used this service for my youngest daughter, renting 9s for her to learn to shoot. They do offer a discount on rentals for members.
They are also a full-service firearms store, with a variety of weapons, ammunition, holsters, clothing and apparel, and range items (like soft cases for rifles, range-bags, duty-bags, etc). Members receive discounts of 5% on most items (excluding firearms).
Of note, this store has close ties with Vortex, and their scopes are priced nearly at-cost. A Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50 FFP w/ EBR and illumination was priced recently on sale at $635. With a 5% discount, you're basically wiping out sales tax. Also, I recently was looking to purchase a Savage Stealth 10 BA; they were one of the cheaper-priced stores, priced nearly $100 lower than any other place I could find (excluding Bud's online). The problem is that they are a smaller family-owned business, and their inventory is limited. So they were liquidating their remaining 2017 inventory, and all they had for a Savage 10 or 110 BA on sale was a 10 BA chambered in .338 or a 110 BA chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, neither of which I wanted. I wanted a 10 chambered in 6.5. (Their sale price on the 10 was just over $900, and their 110 was $1,029; incredible if you can stomach paying for .338 or really enjoying reloading.) :)
Staff seems knowledgeable, and they are friendly. It's a small group. You'll see mostly the same faces when you go, and you'll get to know them. Most (maybe all) of their staff are former military and have a love of shooting sports and shooting for self-defense.
The place is spotless and smells nice. They have lead-removal soap in the bathrooms for clean-up after shooting.
My only issues, and why I have a difficult time with giving this place 5 stars: I do feel some of their prices are high. It's a store, though, and they are for profit, so I get that. Ammo seems a bit high. Some of the accessories seem a bit high. The membership, while it seems cost prohibitive at first glance and is a lot of money for most of us to payout up front, seems high, but it's not, really. Not if you go there once or twice a week (or more). In reality, though, I won't be there much. I love my outdoor ranges. I like to be shooting inside when it's below zero, though. And they do have monthly rates for those of us who can more easily afford to pay by the month than by the year: the catch is that monthly rate is for a year locked in. It's like a contract at your gym. You agree to a year, you get this rate. You cancel, you still owe the monthly rate. read more
