Disappointed. We wanted to love Fire Light but unfortunately we were left feeling let down. The idea is a nice one and some of the details charming but the tent had easy access to chipmunks who were in our tent rummaging through garbage that has been left in the waste basket from the previous guest and even after we took it to the central garbage they kept coming back in all day and night. We also had something nesting in between the layers of canvas at the roofline that made noise all night and ran above our heads. We did not get any sleep. We could hear the noise from the main campfire area as well as our too close for comfort tent neighbors on both sides. We had asked for a secluded tent and were given tent #5 per the advice of the front desk. It was NOT secluded. The bathhouse shower area was not clean and had mildew and mold on the shower curtains and bugs on the ceiling and walls. It was not kept tidy. We left early the next morning after our small GF breakfast of a tiny piece of GF bread and a yogurt. read more

My husband and I stayed here for a kid-free getaway! We had a lovely time. The tent was spacious and comfortable, and we loved the deck in the morning, especially. The lobby area is charming - a nice selection of books, comfortable seating. We felt very much at home while we enjoyed the happy hour and breakfast. We are pretty environmentally aware, and loved the locally sourced beer, wine, and breakfast. The food was good and it is good for the environment and local economy! The location is convenient to downtown Ithaca, yet far enough away that you feel secluded. There is a lot to do, for sure! All the fun of camping without the dirt and damp. We LOVED our stay at Firelight. We were traveling with a 4 and 3 year old, so having a "glamping" experience was a super easy way to camp. We got in late, but we were able to order delivery to the sight, had a drink in the lobby and hung out. We were there in October and it was chilly, but the main tent was perfect for hanging out and warm. The kids loved the home made S'mores and we loved the drinks! The tent was large and comfortable, and even though it got down to 50 degrees at night, the blankets kept us super warm. We hiked in the am on the trail that you can enter right from the camp. Overall, it was a great, relaxing stay and I would definitely recommend to anyone. Even in the colder months! read more

Visited Firelight for a friend's wedding and had a fabulous weekend. Tent provided a comfortable bed and warm down blanket. We were located at a tent that was not in the woods though, but a clearing near the parking lot. If you enjoy sleeping in the woods definitely discuss tent location when booking, as most of the tents are in the woods. Staff were friendly and helpful, accommodations clean. My husband and I spent 3 nights at Firelight Camps for our wedding anniversary and we had a great time! Key things to know: - The tents are clean, fairly big, the king bed is comfortable. No full body mirror inside or any mirror. The veranda is nice with a pair of cute rocking chairs. I'm in love with the writing table and safari chair is nice! - Photos on their website are 100% accurate. - The lamps inside your tent are great. It lasts the whole night (if you're not charging your phone while using it). If it dies sooner that you expect, you can have it replaced for a new one on the main tent. - The breakfast is mostly pastry, bread, and yogurt. They have gluten free options, too! It's straight forward and not too heavy- which I think is great. They also offer coffee (from Nicaragua) and Harney and Sons tea 24/7. Most of their food products are local and/or organic! Also, don't miss out on their chive cream cheese, it's good! - They offer free wine tasting every 5pm-6pm so you can taste their local wines. This part of NY is the same temperature as the Rhine Valley in Germany which is known for their Riesling so you must must must try their Riesling. - The bathroom is unisex which is cool as I'm as scaredy cat and I need my husband in sight most especially when I need to go and it's dark outside lol! They have hot water, people!! The towels are clean and new. They do provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash- just in case you forgot. The bathroom is CLEAN! - You should remember to bring the lantern though if you're going to the bathroom at night, it's pretty dark going back to your tent (just a point of reference, we were in tent 5 so there's like a small bushy entry towards that line of tents so it's pretty dark). There's a motion sensing light right on your tent so you can see the steps. - The staff are nice and knowledgeable. We asked them their take on the best restaurants, hiking areas, and wineries and they gave us good and accurate information. - They have a camp fire every evening and you can make s'mores to complete the experience. If in case you forgot to bring your kit, they sell them there. We didn't try theirs though as we brought ours. We forgot to bring sticks but they happily provided us some. - They provide (1) free drink per person (over 21) per night you're staying with them. Nice touch! I would recommend Firelight Camps to anyone who can't do the full on camping and needs the basic necessities to last 24 hours lol! It's my first time glamping and I think i'm up for my next one. This is a bit overdue but now that spring is on its way, I've been looking into camping/glamping sites. I stayed at Firelights last September hoping to have a romantic weekend with my boyfriend. When we first got there to check in, it seemed like we irritated the staff by even being there. Everyone was extremely unfriendly. Noticed that all of the lounge furniture in the main part of the camp looked extremely disheveled. Upon initially seeing our tent, it was cute -- the bedding and furniture was a little worn and dirty, but I just figured it was because we were there towards the end of the season. We went back to the main area for some hiking info and I guess the girl was too busy blankly staring at us while she was wiping down some mugs to even bother asking if we needed help. Ended using some trail brochures from a hotel in town. At night, we went out to the bonfires and they were pretty exclusive. A tightly knit group and some guitar player took over the main bonfire. We had to sit over off to the side with a stranger that again, seemed really pissed we were even there. I went to make hot cocoa to salvage the night and when I took a sip I literally spit it out. It's supposed to be some special homemade recipe of theirs but it tastes super spicy and pretty gross. I tried to buy a s'mores kit and they were completely sold out. How do you sell out of s'mores when you are a CAMP site? There was basically nothing else for us to do and no one wanted to give us the time of day. We gave up and went back to our tent to find multiple MASSIVE spiders everywhere. It was honestly horrifying, we barely slept. As soon as we woke up we were packing to leave. I was thoroughly disappointed. Wasn't the pinterest-esque glamping experience I had in mind. Even when I actually camp and pitch a tent myself I have never seen such large disgusting spiders. Super unfriendly staff. Overall place was pretty dirty. The showers were so disgusting that we booked a day at the spa just to feel clean again after the entire experience. Can't believe how much money was wasted on such a lousy experience. Don't bother! Go camping on your own. read more

Absolutely perfect stay, you truly get a sense of Ithaca here. You can step right off the property and walk the trail to Buttermilk Falls. Wine tasting in the afternoon and breakfast were welcoming (and delicious) and the tent itself was a perfect retreat. Even though we were close to another tent we never heard any other noise. My husband and I stayed at Firelight Camps three nights for our anniversary. Overall, our experience was wonderful. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The tents were exactly what I expected and I was not disappointed. The bed was very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is nice! People have to remember that this is camping, it is not a 5-star hotel. Ideally, this is a place for young adults not families. There isn't enough to occupy the kids with. The fire and bar area are meant for unwinding after a long day of outdoor excursions. I gave this place a 4/5 because the tents need to be spaced further apart and another bathroom could be added. read more

My wife, son, dog and I stayed over one night for a quick getaway. We love to camp, but camping is a lot of work, and tough to do midweek with a day job the next day. We also enjoy the finer things in life. Firelight Camps is the perfect blend! Our king size bed was super comfy, and at night we could hear a screech owl in the far distance later at night (a lot more pleasant than it sounds, if you aren't familiar with a screech owl, its more of a trill than a screech). The staff were all super friendly and hospitable. We came a little late, and missed the wine tasting. As a consolation, at checkin we were given two tokens which were good for a kombucha (wife) and a ginger ale (son). It hit the spot. The campfire at night was amazing, and we loved the albums and board games - gave it all a real camp feel! Everything was clean - from the tent to the bathrooms. Very nice! Also, we felt really welcome with our large, 55 pound 4 month old puppy. He loved it there as well! When we had to run to start our workday, everyone wished we could have stayed several more days. From a warm welcome, to clean and safe protocols, to an awesome tent, to friendly staff, to a great campfire experience and the best smores you'll ever have, to the natural sounds of a creek running outside at your tent, we enjoyed everything about our stay. If there's one thing that my friends know about me, besides the obvious (like how much I love to eat/drink, tell jokes, travel and write), it's the fact that I would rather lick a dirty toilet seat than go camping. Hell, I can barely bring myself to use a unisex bathroom at a bar! About a year ago, I received some intel on Ithaca by Firelight Camps, a "glamp" site located in upstate New York. Not having a clue what "glamping" was or how it differed from, gasp, traditional "camping," I couldn't get on their website quickly enough. ... In the beginning of this past summer, I booked a single night's stay at Firelight Camps for the second week of October. I would be in Manhattan the weekend prior for one of my dearest friend's weddings, so it only made sense to make my way upstate thereafter for some R&R. On Tuesday morning, October 6th, I flew to Syracuse from NYC. Upon arrival, I rented a car and made the 45-minute drive to Ithaca. The scenery along the way was absolutely breathtaking; aside from the region's inherent natural beauty, the potpourri of fall colors - in the form of leaves and produce - was everything that I could have hoped for and more. When GPS announced that I had "arrived" at my destination (Firelight Camps), I was both perplexed and a bit relieved to pull up to a full-service hotel/spa and restaurant. Where the heck was I? As I made my way further down the drive, I saw a sign for the Camp and continued just beyond the hotel and restaurant, down a little hill, and on to a grassy clearing with a central "tent." I pulled my rental car off to the side of the gravel road and made my way in to the "lobby tent," where I received a warm greeting from the staff and a quick orientation, if you will. ...I was particularly thrilled to learn that "Happy hour is from 5-6PM when we spark the evening campire and bar remains open until 11PM." Woohoo! Upon making my way over to my tent, I noticed the al-fresco communal hangout area just off the lobby, complete with a fire pit, an assortment of seating options, and liberally strung twinkle-lights. The staff told me that I could park my car outside of my tent to unload my suitcases, but that I would then have to parking just up the short hill near the facilities. Yep, that's right, folks, I said "facilities." Would they be unisex? Clean? Small? Would there be hot enough water? Would there be hot water at all? After getting settled and unpacking my essentials, I made sure to familiarize myself with the battery-powered lanterns-cum-phone chargers that were located in my tent. Try walking to the facilities in the pitch dark (There's no electricity in the sleeping tents.) without one of those suckers! From there, I decided to go check out the facilities before stopping over at the lobby for happy hour. And, I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised by how clean and ample the restrooms and showers were, in addition to being fully-stocked with shampoo/conditione/soap! 5PM couldn't come quickly enough! I made my way back to the lobby tent for happy hour and enjoyed wines from the local Finger Lakes region, "hard" apple cider (it just so happened to be Cider Week while I was there), and good company. Amongst a handful of couples (including one with their adorable dogs in tow), there was a fun group of older women on a pseudo college reunion trip. As the sun slowly set over the glampground, so did the temperatures. While I was still in the lobby, I made sure to secure a propane heater for my tent to keep me warm overnight, as it was forecasted to dip in to the 40s! Just after happy hour and a quick shower, I walked over to John Thomas Steakhouse (the restaurant located further up the property) where I enjoyed a fantastic lobster dinner. Forgoing dessert at the restaurant, I made my way back to camp in anticipation of enjoying a glass of red/nightcap and attempting to roast s'mores by the fire... With a full and happy belly - plus a solid buzz - I made my way back to my tent and prepared for bed: I turned on the propane tank, put on my socks, and crawled under the warm blanket. Aside from the heater's buzz, the only thing I could hear beyond the mesh of my tent's windows were the leaves lightly dancing and the crickets chirping. A few hours later, I awoke to the tranquil sound of a rain shower that aided me in to falling in the deepest, most comfortable sleep that I've experienced in...forever. Wow. The following morning, I allowed myself to sleep in before packing up and heading to the continental breakfast in the lobby tent - something I haven't done in quite some time. Ultimately, however, I was jonezing for a cup of coffee and some sustenance. Although I would have loved to stay for another night (or two!), it was time for me to hit the road and explore the region and Ithaca proper, in addition to checking out Cornell's campus. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at Firelight in Ithaca during a photo assignment in the area. Only a few minute drive from downtown Ithaca, the camp is a well thought out selection of tent cabins both in the open and in deep woods, all connected by a trail system that lights up at night. The center area was a combination lobby, canteen, work space, and lounge with plenty of seating and fire pits nearby. The next tent over was running a Yoga class when I wandered by in the morning and by evening the place was hopping. Fires roaring, food and drinks out, all lit by strings of old timey light bulbs. I showed up in the middle of the week so I had the place almost to myself but this is one of those situations where the more people are there, the better the experience is. I'll be sure to visit again next time I'm on the East Coast. read more

Be careful booking! Imagine you have four children and both grandparents live out of state. Now imagine you are turning forty and your fabulous husband actually plans a special fortieth weekend glamping for you. He thinks ahead, gets the grandparents to come watch the kids and books months in advance. It's all paid for and you can't wait for your special weekend of pampering. Two weeks before arrival firelight sends an email - not even a phone call just an email saying oops! We've double booked. No room at the inn for you. What firelight?! Two weeks before? After you've already taken our money? We had local activities booked in the area that had to be cancelled. Shame on you! Too short notice for us to even find a sweet alternative. We had a 2 night reservation last weekend (Oct 21-23) with our friends. It has been cold, damp, windy and rained a lot during our stay. Bad weather aside, we enjoyed our company. We had wine tasting, hike a lot and fire pit conversation with other campers. The tent is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. The happy hour by the fire pit is engaging. We met Josh who apparently is a member of a band called "Cabinet" and his wife (Sarah or Emily, can't remember) and another couple - Marshall/wife. If not for the bad weather, we could have stayed longer by the fire pit. The location is about 10 minutes away from downtown Ithaca and a walk away to Buttermilk Falls State Park trails. The nearby John Thomas steakhouse is delicious. Although it's a little bit pricey, the place has its own unique charms. Overall, I believed we could have enjoyed the place more if the weather is cooperating. P.S. I woke up in the middle of the night to the winds blasting our tent. A little bit disturbing but a fantastic experience nonetheless... read more

First time staying here this weekend for a night getaway and it was beyond my expectations! The tents are clean and aesthetically pleasing, the lanterns have USB ports to charge your phones the thermal blankets are so warm!, bathrooms are unisex and kept clean. There is yoga every morning (in the summer), free wine tasting from 5-6pm, community bonfire, hammocks free for anyone's use and complimentary breakfast (organic & local). There is also a trailhead to Buttermilk Falls State Park right off the site. We truly enjoyed how low key and relaxing our visit was - and it not being too far from downtown either to grab coffee & dinner. I'm giving Firelight Camps 5 stars in spite of having a problem with our reservation. In February I booked two electric/heated tents. A King bed electric tent for the birthday girl and one of our ladies and a 2 queen bed electric bed tent for the remaining three ladies of our five women group celebrating a 60th birthday on 5/18. I received a confirmation after payment in full was made in February. When we arrived I was told that we had a King electric tent and one regular king tent. I was told this is was in my reminder of our upcoming visit email, way at the bottom it indicated the types of tents that were reserved. The reminder email was pretty long indicating several links to weather, items to bring, things to do at the campground and in Ithaca. The tent reservation information was after the signature of the co-founders and listed at the very bottom of the email. Clearly I never read that far. Well, I'm still giving 5 stars because after expressing my displeasure and wondering how 5 women were going to sleep in two beds. Elaine said since the two queen bed tent was occupied, she could give us an additional tent and additional blankets since these tents weren't heated (although the evenings were supposed to be very mild). We were a little scattered around the campground, but it all worked out in the end. The lobby/lounge tent is amazing. Several seating areas and tables. Coffee and hot water on all the time. Board games, cards, and some books available for entertainment. Charging station with many outlets. The bar was very nice and we did some hard cider tastings. My favorite part was just kicking back around one of the several fire pits after returning from our Ithaca Is Foodies Culinary Food tour; playing some bocce and don't laugh, but having food delivered to our fire pit using the Ithaca To Go food app. Lobster mac and cheese around a wood fire then making s'mores. Does it get any better? Our stay was great. The bathrooms and showers were all clean and well stocked. Breakfast had many options, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, many topping choices, then granola, pastries, muffins, fresh fruit... Besides being a lovely place, to me one of the things that makes it great is how well they deal with problems and they could not have been nicer or more willing to accommodate us and to make us happy. My fiancé and I had a wonderful two days at Firelight Camps. The tents were beautiful and spacious. The bathroom facilities were clean and a short walk from the tents. We loved the communal area stocked with games and, of course, the fire pit for nightly smores! Each night there was a happy hour let us sample some local wines and beers. We took advantage of the buttermilk falls trail that was right onthe grounds and had a memorable hike. Overall a great experience and one we would recommend to friends! I stayed here one night with my girlfriend while visiting Ithaca. Never having been glamping before (but plenty times back country and car camping) I was really excited to see what it was all about. There are several things that made this experience really wonderful: 1) true hospitality: When we pulled up we were greeted by a really friendly host who checked us in and showed us where our tent was in a map. All staff members we encountered were well trained and very friendly 2) nicely appointed safari tent: it's a real treat to be able to sleep outside in a super comfortable bed. The rest of the tent had stands for our bags, a desk, and side tables. Each tent had its own little balcony that faced the woods which was a quiet, calm, relaxing place to sit. I played cars with my girlfriend while listening to the trees sway gently in the breeze. 3) nice wet facilities: the shower and toilet facilities are shared in a central location, a short walk from the tents .... they're extremely well maintained and cleaned and stocked with plenty of fluffy towels, hair dryers, etc. The water pressure is great and had no problems getting hot water for a nice rinse before bed. 4) great reception area and common area: there are several fire pits and picnic tables that allow you to either meet and converse with other guests or hang with your partner/own group. They have music on Tuesday and a bar to grab a glad of local wine or cocktail. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Ithaca! read more

Let me start off by saying I have no actually stayed at this campground. I have, however, inquired about booking a couple of tents for an event. I was extremely put off by their noise policy. They will fine a paying guest up to $250 per offense. I'm sorry, but there is no way I would risk incurring this type of fee when there are numerous other beautiful venues in the area. Of course for the protection of other guests there needs to be some type of policy, but this is just ridiculous. If they were to review this policy, I would certainly book in the future. read more

I stayed at Firelight Camps for a Bachelorette party last weekend and it was great! The tents were super cute and the beds were really comfortable. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Nice hiking trails and the bathhouses were super awesome! Outside of the actual accommodations (ie. tent, bathhouse) the camp itself doesn't offer a lot. Be prepared to bring your on food, or even have food delivered. Another group had food catered on Friday night and ate at the lobby which seemed like a great idea. If you're looking to go into town and don't want to take your car - the cabs are kind of expensive. Overall - great experience, I just wish I had brought more food and alcohol. read more

Let me start out by saying our tent was beautiful, clean and romantic (#19). I do recommend going as it was a lot of fun and a different experience. I will say that the landscaping (for the price of the stay) needs a lot of TLC and we could hear a lot of traffic noise at night (not exactly a woodsy experience). Per the landscaping, the camps are set up behind a B&B, and they didn't really try to make it a separate experience. It felt a bit awkward when we first arrived... just some tents on the back part of another property. If there was landscaping done and a sense of separateness, it would've felt much different. We also were told we had a heater in our room, but it wasn't working when we tried to turn it on at night (this was more of an issue in the morning since it was cold/damp out). The cont. breakfast was lovely and the staff was very nice/professional. Overall, I really enjoyed our stay and with some minor improvements, this place could really be amazing. read more

The tents are super clean and even in the middle of summer - no bugs. Tents are very secluded and private, and it's very quiet. Bathrooms and showers are very clean. High hopes, a bit dashed. This was our first experience "glamping", having previously utilized more traditional campsites. We wanted to still be outdoors, enjoy the stars, nature, and some peace, while having a more comfortable place to sleep. Unfortunately, that's not what Firelight was able to provide. Starting with the positives. The canvas tents were comfortable and well-appointed. The visual aesthetic of the campground was lovely, with soft glowing lights and two campfires. The bathhouse and showers were well-designed and functional. The largest issue is the noise, and it's hard to pinpoint whether it's Firelight's issue or can be laid at the feet of the type of people "glamping" attracts. Firelight serves a complimentary happy hour from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, and on the first night of our stay, the people around the campfire were pretty well drunk, obnoxious, and loud. It seems clear that many of them had been over-served at the bar. We chose to sit at the second campfire, but since it's only twenty feet away, there was no peace and quiet to enjoy. The third night of our stay, a huge crowd gathered in the main tent and got louder and louder as the night progressed, several hours past the camp's 10:00 noise guideline. At checkout, the man at the desk asked me if it was campers or people from the nearby resort (as if I'm supposed to know who's who), which is when I learned that Firelight allows people from the La Tourelle resort on the same property to utilize their facilities (but apparently not heed the camp's guidelines). I lived in Ithaca for several years a while back, so I'm aware of the type-B, laid-back pace of many of its residents. However, a bit of urgency from the employees would have been appreciated. They moved at a snail's pace, so the bathroom was constantly out of towels, the breakfast foods and coffee not replenished quickly, and the waste bins in the bathroom overflowing. There was a giant smear of what I hope was dirt from the contractors (yes, contractors... we'll get to that) on the back of a bathroom door for three days, so cleaning was not a top priority. Firelight is as pricey as any bed and breakfast, but without the more scrumptious breakfasts that most B&Bs offer. Breakfast was the exact same thing three days in a row. Bread, muffins, yogurt, and a tiny bit of fruit (if it was refilled). As one of the owners is a former Food Network competitor, there was a higher expectation for the food (especially for the price of our stay). Which brings us to the contractors. A new shed was being built, so there was hammering in the morning. Contractors were also constructing pathways around the bathhouse, which sometimes impeded access to the facilities. If you are going to be doing work on the campground, some options are a) inform people of the dates that work will be done so they can decide if they still want to book, or b) offer a discount during that time. Dogs are allowed on the property, but not everyone curbed them. One person did pick up their dog's waste, but then didn't know where to dump the baggie, so left it sitting on the porch of the bathhouse. Gross. The website advertises propane heaters in the tents, but I guess they don't put them out in July, even though one of the nights was very cold. There were also a fair amount of smokers, not all of whom adhered to the camp's guidelines about where smoking is allowed. Overall, some of what made the stay uncomfortable was just the basic inconsideration of the other guests. However, there is plenty of room for Firelight to make some small fixes -- more urgency in keeping things up to snuff, enforcing the noise rules, not over-serving obviously inebriated guests -- that could make it a great experience. Firelight has a beautiful setting, nice aesthetics, and great potential, if they can just pull it together. read more

My husband and I just returned from our babymoon at Firelight and we are already talking about going back! Everything was incredible--the tent, the hospitality, the bathhouse...We are not "outdoorsy" people and this was a perfect was for us to relax, unwind, and enjoy being outside. We can't wait to visit again! read more

Camping re-envisioned !! The setting is casual but charming and comfortable, with the comforts of a full spa on the property. Lots of area amenities to take advantage of, including hiking, the Finger Lakes, winery tours and Ithaca. My only wish is that it were closer to home (NYC) so I could go more often. read more

We just came back from our trip to firelight for a mini-honeymoon! It was an incredible experience and we couldn't be happier! The tent was wonderful and way more spacious than we imagined! The staff was helpful and fun to talk to! We loved the bathhouse and all of the natural and local products. we also loved the fire pit, games, bocci ball court, and sense of community. Great accommodations nestled in the woods. Very private & relaxing. Perfect for couples

Gorgeousness abounds. From the breakfast spread of homemade breads and granola to the view from our tent, this place is nirvana. Staff are available, informative, wonderful. Tents are luxurious - best sleep I've had in many hotel stays. We will absolutely return and look forward to hiking the trail which was directly behind our tent. read more
