I've been to many firehouse subs all over the country! Big fan, certainly have my top favorite locations. However, this place has changed since the last time I've been here. Wow, on the customer service. I walked in on Friday around 11am. The door could be wiped down a little better. Tables were clean, restrooms were nice and detailed. I'm big on the little things esp the chips! The chips were well organized! Omgoodness! That's the first thing i noticed as I've had experiences at other firehouses were they had expired chips in the back when it should be moved to the front and new ones in the back. I was greeted by the GM, he didn't know I been to many locations and quite a fan of this Sorensen brothers company. He greeted and treated me with personality. I usually get the Italian and I decided to try the hook and ladder instead. I'm big on my sandwiches as I've had bad experiences before at other locations when they don't listen to your needs. My sandwich It's not sloppy and prob one of the best attention to detail to their customers needs! Exactly how i wanted my sub! Usually you can tell if people are about the passion of the company and the want to serve the community and it's customers. They are all about that. I really enjoyed the vibes here. The GM even let me keep a bag of chips.. What I truly enjoy about the customer service above and beyond is experience is that the GM came around the front to personally hand my sandwich to me by name! I was shocked at how much a large sub was yet I know the quality is always good and better than similar place. We ordered four large subs - two Italian meatballs and two turkey sandwiches. The two sandwiches I ordered for myself were my meals for 3 days. I hardly eat fast food and remember that I last bought footlong Italian meatball sandwiches for $5. The sandwich tasted good like the ones I bought for $5 yet I understand how prices of food has doubled in a year or two. This place sucks. It was my first time trying Firehouse and I'll never be back. My friend and I ordered 2 medium sandwiches online and stopped to pick them up. First of all, it is oppressively hot today and it was hot and muggy inside the restaurant. I felt so bad for the employees working. There were only 2 groups dining in and everyone looked miserable with sweat on their faces. It took a little while for our food to be ready, but the girl who gave it to me was very nice. Imagine my surprise, when upon returning home (about 15 min away, so no way was I going to drive back), our sandwiches had nothing on them. It was as if the person manning the toppings station looked at the sandwiches and said, "Naahh." I ordered a turkey sandwich that was supposed to come with provolone, mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, jalapeno peppers, onion, green peppers, oil & vinegar, Italian seasoning, and salt & pepper. I got a couple of clumps of turkey and cheese melted together, 3 slices of banana pepper, and 2 slices of jalapeños. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? It was disgusting and so irritating. I had to basically make my sandwich at home (the mayo on the bread in the picture was added by me at home). For $17?! Get a life. Never again. Kingstowne Towne Ctr. Brav, freakin' O' is all I gotta say, it was like Monday 10/14 about 6ish or so, the staff was nice, the subs had nice fixings that looked just like the posters on the wall with photos of the sandwiches, which is huge to me. I couldn't have been more thrilled. The environment was nice and they had the new hot sauce bar which was great. This will be my new location to visit anytime I go to Firehouse Subs for sure. read more

I've been to quite a few Firehouse Sub locations and they are all pretty consistent in quality as far as nice clean facilities, friendly staffed, and very good sub sandwiches. This location fits that description as well. This spot is nice because there's a lot of shopping and dining options in the area. There's lots of parking and the area still has a new look and feel to it. The interior is longer than it is wide. Ordering counter with the overhead menu board on your left and tables/chairs on your right. Drink station towards the back. They specialize is sandwiches, hot and cold, but also have salads. They have three sized sandwiches and if you order a small they will let you know it's only like 4 inches. But maybe sometimes that's all you want. The combo includes chips (your choice) and a drink. Ordered via app today for lunch. Order confirmation said the order would be ready by 1225, got there at 1227. Order wasn't ready until 1240. The staff was meh, no apologies or anything. Right at the entrance of the restaurant, there are boxes of supplies stacked everywhere which are not welcoming. By the way, the staff didn't bother to acknowledge anyone that walked in the door. Really friendly staff, quick turn around, pretty good sandwiches. The steak and cheese was very good... there was a flavor in the beef that made me think it was marinated? The additional flavor was a little distracting, but wasn't bad at all. The Italian had a pretty strong ham presence. We ordered everything as is, so please take that with a grain of salt. You should customize your sandwiches as you enjoy it most. We asked for all white, but it looked like some of our sandwiches came in wheat which was no problem for us. I've been to this location maybe a dozen times and never had a bad experience...until today. We placed an order on the app and decided to dine in with it and specifically put on my fiancé's sub "allergic to onions" after removing the caramelized onions under customization. I also ordered a veggie with no cheese for myself, two bags of chips, and two drinks. Pretty simple, right? Well, his sub had raw onions on it even though the reciept said "allergic to onions" and, for some reason when I explained this to an employee, there was STILL some confusion about whether on not there should be onions on it. Then I noticed that the chip selection was far greater than what was listed on the app (I guess not their fault, but I would have rather had something else rather than what I got.) And then I started eating and thought, "This tastes different," and realized there were no sautéed mushrooms...or tomatoes...or onions...or lettuce...or the Dijon sauce. All that was on my "veggie" sandwich was literally sauteed onions, green peppers, and mayo. And they gave me the pickle when I said "no pickle." I don't know if the people who were working today were just not with it today, having a bad day, or are all ready to quit; but seriously - what the hell? While waiting, I got to observe the store and how dirty it was: food all over the floor and chairs. My daughter's kids meal was cold which was a grilled cheese and my meal was nicely microwaved and nuked to high hell. Food was awful when eating. I have no clue what caused this terrible experience nor extreme wait with the staff tonight but that is my first time to this location and last time to any firehouse subs. This chain is based in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL and I used to eat there all the time before I moved up here a few years ago. I was excited to find a location here while doing some errands and this place does the chain proud. Service was friendly, the roast beef sandwich was tasty as ever with the medium size being plenty for lunch, and the iced tea is the real thing with cane sugar. One weird menu quirk here is they have lots of combos on the menu wall but they have single meat subs too, just ask them or look at the full printed menu. I tried them years ago after hearing about them on the Food Network and was super elated to find out they were close in proximity. I've tried just about every sub on the menu and this time in particular I had the club on a sub sandwich. Per usual my sandwich was epically delicious. They steam the meat making it juicy and like no other! I've visited several locations and I can say that service is consistently top notch as is the quality of their subs. OK I normally don't review chains as much as I should, but sometimes, your experience is so great that you need to give a little shout out! It is no secret that Firehouse Subs is delicious. Plenty of options and I particularly like that they have a lighter menu with sandwiches under 500 cals (I have had the sriracha beef and the capt sorensens datil pepper grilled chicken and both are amazing). I have eaten many o subs here and enjoyed them all. I think the selection of hot sauce is one of my favorite things about Firehouse! So cool! Also, love a place with the high tech coke machines. I've been in to this location a couple times and have yet to have a bad experience. The people behind the counter are always super friendly with great senses of humor. I like the premise of giving back to firehouses at this chain. Because most firehouses are not paid for by tax money, it's good to support the men and women that help keep people safe. The sandwiches are quite tasty too! My favorite is the Italian sub. While not as spicy as the same named subs you can get at other establishments, this sub is still quite flavorful. I work nearby this restaurant and have been here quite a few times for lunch. The quality of the food is always great and I always enjoy it. My favorite sandwich is the meatball sub. They recently switched from Pepsi products to Coca-Cola products and that was disappointing for all of my friends. I prefer root beer and I'm not too picky so I wasn't affected by this change, I am just happy that root beer is available here. I don't eat a lot of hot sauce, but I was still impressed by the size of their hot sauce collection. I brought my friend of mine there for the first time, I would describe him as a hot sauce connoisseur or enthusiast, and he was totally stoked about their hot sauce collection. He recognized one of his favorite sauces right away and tried some. He thought that it tasted a different and suggested that the sauces aren't being stored properly and that it is affecting their flavor. They sit out in the open on a counter all day with no refrigeration and with the number of sauces sitting up there, its possible that some of them have become very old. This isn't an issue for me because I never use them, to me the collection is still impressive to look at. The "Welcome to Firehouse!" greeting seems to have slowly died off since they initially opened, which is a relief because it was startling at times. The first time I ever ordered here I wasn't paying much attention, overwhelmed by the whole experience, and was puzzled and somewhat startled when the woman taking my order asked if I would like that "Fully Involved". Had I read the entire menu I would have known what they were asking (Fully Involved = Loaded. Complete with Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and a Dill Spear on the side.). The only issue I've ever had with this place is after placing an online order I went to pick it up from the counter up front and been blatantly ignored by the staff for over 10 minutes while my food was getting cold and soggy. Numerous employees looked over and made eye contact with me, and my order was ready sitting in a bag behind the counter the entire time. Eventually someone came over and helped me, after paying I made a remark about everyone ignoring me before walking away to fill my cup at the fountain drink machine. She caught up with me there and gave me a card for a free sandwich! However I was starving (and had already commitment to eating at the restaurant) so when I went to order I asked if there was anything for me. The individual at the counter said they had tuna and a veggie sub available (would have been helpful information earlier). I ordered the tuna sandwich which was good. It felt like the right portion for a sandwich. BEST SUBMARINE SANDWICH CHAIN (in the DMV area) First, there was Subway but then Jared became a national icon and Subway sandwiches started tasting like cardboard. Second came Quizno's with its toasted subs concept ... still good but not extraordinary. Soon afterward, I discovered Potbelly's, which rocked my taste buds until too much of a good thing became a very bad thing (every three days for 2 months). Along the way, I've encountered other mediocre subs at Jimmy Johns and Jerry's Subs too. But there is perhaps no better submarine sandwich than the Firehouse Sub. Why is Firehouse Subs better than all the other sandwich chains? Simply because its has best quality meat and the best bread for the same prices as its competitors. Unlike other sandwiches, there's this brief moment before you bite into the sandwich where you actually salivate. Even if its not perfumed salami that makes your mouth water, then its probably one of the 30 or 40 hot sauces at your disposal. Each hot sauce is scaled from 1 to 10++ (10++ being the close to diabolical). And like John R., part of the experience is sampling a variety of hot sauces to find the ideal condiment for your sandwich. 4 Stars - I'm not claiming that Firehouse offers the best submarine sandwiches in the DMV area (that award tentatively goes to A. Litteri's over by Northeast DC), but, without a doubt, it is the best sandwich chain around here. Part of the reason why Firehouse retains its charm is that you can only find it at Kingstowne. i don't like subway. i don't care if they call it turkey; their impeccably-circular discs of "meat" cannot be classified as any animal in my mind, since animals don't come in impeccably-circular shapes. firehouse subs on the other hand, brings real meat to the table. their premium deli meats are sliced paper-thin and piled high on toasty sub rolls. the virginia honey ham is sweet enough to melt in your mouth, and the engineer's turkey was tender and savory. what separates firehouse from your average sandwich shop is the freshness of their ingredients. they don't do anything fancy as far as putting those ingredients together, but IMOH, when you start out with quality, you can keep it simple. definite 4-star place. if you want a sub, they do it right. read more

I must admit I felt a little uneasy coming here. My family and I had just gone shopping at a sports store in Alexandria and needed something to eat. We had a hankering for sandwiches and decided to come to this place after seeing how highly rated it was on Yelp. On the way there I continued to feel a growing doubt. How could something so good be located in the sticks? Or in one of these new-urbanism town centers that usually just have things like Chilis and Applebee's? No matter, we had already set on the path to Firehouse Subs... and I'm glad we did. It's a very well-lit place, and the service is friendly and quick. There are a multitude of options but the subs are where it's at. I had a #1 (Hook and Ladder) medium combo which comes with a drink and chips for about $6-7 if I remember correctly. This has warm turkey breast and honey ham along with monterey jack and various toppings. It was a good serving, especially with chips, although I might have gotten just a large sandwich instead. Everyone else liked their subs as well. Overall we really enjoyed Firehouse Subs, and while we wouldn't come here often (I'm not one to drive 30+ minutes for just any old grub) we would definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area. read more

The Firehouse Subs in Kingstowne was the call for the office's lunch. Firehouse Subs, for the most part, follows the same formula as every other sub shop out there. You go to the counter, place your order from a variety of subs, pick up a bag of chips and a cup, wait for your name to be called, and claim your sandwich. Firehouse Subs offers a couple of twists, though, to the standard formula that I liked. First, they have a counter full of hot sauces similar to California Tortilla's "Wall of Flame" to add some heat to your sandwich. I had the New York Steamer (an unfortunate name for a sandwich), a hot sub with corned beef brisket, pastrami, provolone, topped with mustard, mayo and Italian dressing that really was a satisfying, meaty mouthful made all the better with some hot sauce. Second, they have a high-tech Coke machine which offers the widest selection of Coke products I've ever seen. The one negative from my lunch experience was that the sandwich making process seemed a bit inefficient. Rather than an assembly line process, it appeared their sandwich makers at various stations made individual sandwiches from start to finish. Some sandwich makers were a lot faster than others. Completed sandwiches were delivered out of order from the sequence that the original orders were taken. As a result, some members of our party had a much longer wait for their food even though they ordered well before me. Nevertheless, sometimes you just need a good sub sandwich and Firehouse Subs delivers the goods. It certainly beats Subway! read more

Had a steak and cheese and it was SOO delicious, even on wheat bread. I think it's better than the steak and cheese sandwiches I've had at similar establishments. I can't wait to eat it again. I got a medium size and it was perfect. It's an extra $2.50 for a large but that will probably give you 2 meals. The combo comes with a drink and either chips, a cookie or a brownie. Yum! When designing the interior, they really paid attention to all the details. Boyfriend knows Firehouse Subs well since he's from Florida, so he was super excited to see that we have one in Kingstowne. I'd only been once, in Florida with him, but I liked it, so when he suggested it for lunch, I agreed. Firehouse could easily be just another boring sub place, but they're totally not. Boyfriend had the steamer. I had the brisket and cheddar, and kinda wished I'd gotten a large sandwich. Not because I was still hungry, but because it was so damn good. Boyfriend also loves the Italian, and he's picky about his Italians. And you can customize any of the sandwiches, so you're not stuck to the menu. Probably the best part about this Firehouse Subs, though, is the Coke machine. Its not your normal soda fountain - its one of those fancy schmancy touch screen deals with over 100 different flavors or something. Want Peach Sprite? No problem. Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper? Sure. The options are endless. Boyfriend disagrees, and says the best part is all the hot sauces. But we can agree to disagree :) The one negative? You know how when you walk into Cold Stone and they greet you 17 times? They do that here. But at least they don't sing. Best meatball subs in DC Metro area. Firehouse is a new chain to the dc area and I was VERY impressed with my visit. Maybe it's because they're new, but when you enter, everyone who works there turns and greets you - I watched them do it to customer after customer while I was there. All subs are toasted, and the meatball was like none other. It's how I would make a meatball sub if I weren't so lazy. Toasted bread, meatballs with seasoning (not just plain ground meat), melted provolone, sprinkled with oregano and basil on top. Firehouse Subs was started in Jacksonville, Florida and has been expanding quite a bit in recent history. The subs are prepared on white or wheat bread, then loaded with premium fresh meats and cheeses, veggies and other fixin's - like mayo, mustard, etc. To get everything is "fully loaded" and each sandwich takes a firehouse-themed name. As a sometimes vegetarian, I have to say that this is THE best veggie sub that I have found, and after confirming with an e-mail, the calorie count for veggie subs does include the cheese (hooray!) so that was another little victory of mine. Ironically, the veggie sub's name is just that, the veggie. I guess it's not beefy enough for a fireman name (HAHA). The atmosphere of FS is consistent throughout the chain, so this Kingstowne location was no different - firehouse memorabilia, and a friendly staff that call out a welcome when you arrive. Plus, if you dine in, the sandwich is brought to you - hooray! Don't forget to take advantage of the literal hot sauce buffet on the top counter!
