5 of my kitchen outlets suddenly stopped working and I assumed it was because we were running 2 appliances at the same time and it must have tripped the breaker. We tried flipping all the breakers on and off 10 times and nothing would reset. I also tried resetting the ground switch on one of the outlets which would not click. That same outlet was really hot so I didn't want to mess with something potentially hazardous. These were the first electricians I found on Yelp and saw that they were licensed and offered free estimates. I called at 7:52AM and Autumn picked up 8 minutes before opening which was so nice and won my trust. She told me that she could get a technician out the same day and that they would do an inspection. To me, that sounded like a "free estimate" which is what is written on their Yelp business page. Gabe arrived and checked out the outlet with a volt meter, unscrewed it and inspected it. Then he went out and flipped a switch in my breaker box. Sadly my kitchen breakers were mislabeled by the previous home owner and the power was back on those 5 outlets. He was really nice about it and I said I felt confused for not realizing the mislabeled breakers and that miraculously it was suddenly working again. I waited to see if there was a service or labor fee. He still didn't say anything. So I straight up asked, "So is there a service fee for this?" He said, "It's $195." I thought it was a joke and asked, "wait for like 5 minutes of your time?" He was serious. I felt gutted. Ok so I get that I probably took up his time from another service appt so on a business standpoint, I am responsible for an hour of their time even if it's literally 5 mins bc they sent out a tech and time is money. But wow $195. It's like a whole day of work or with 20 meals. I should have been more detailed when I booked the appt and asked Autumn how much the service fee was going to be. I really wished she could have warned me about the pricing. I did ask Gabe for a discount and he asked me to leave a review and he would reduce the charge for $150. I really appreciated the discount and he was a nice guy and did solve the issue. So thank you Gabe and Firefly! read more

Had Firefly come back out to my house for one more job, Rewire a switch from a 14/2 wire for a single hanging light to a 14/3 wire and add a second switch to control a new ceiling fan light and fan separately which is replacing the hanging light. While this sounds easy to do, I have done it myself in the past, Eleazar and Gab had their hands full up in the attic trying to route and fish wire around some difficult framing which made me more than happy to turn over to the experts. Worst company I have ever dealt with! 3-month job took 1 year to complete! The work was good when it was being done, but never on schedule! I'll be there tomorrow, no show. I need more money, when I paid you half to start the job. Took my electricity out and I had a generator to power my house during the middle of summer for 2 weeks because he did not have a permit! SRP wasn't going to approve the job because the owner seemed drunk or stoned. Just a horrible experience. At least they finished the job! Good luck to this company! read more

Our experience with Ryan Harelson/Firefly Electric was and continues to be extremely negative. After being hired to replace a residential electrical panel and being paid approximately half of the total cost as a deposit, a series of unprofessional actions occurred that led to our dismissing him as our contractor. These included erroneously stating that the new panel could remain in the existing location, unnecessarily directing us to move an existing water line at our cost to accommodate the new panel, failing to inform us that a tree would need to be significantly trimmed, multiple cancelling/re-scheduling of the proposed work, and demanding additional money. SRP conducted a pre-work inspection and stated that the panel would need to be moved approximately 20 feet from its current location, and that the relocated water line done at Harelson's direction was still not within SRP standards. Harelson stated that he consulted with SRP but they would not tell him if the panel needed to be moved; he recommended that we simply install it in the current location against the SRP directive, and "see" if it would pass final inspection. He said that if it was not acceptable to SRP it would be an additional $3,000.00 to move the panel afterward. After all this, Harelson then requested additional money to begin the work, in direct contravention of the contract, which stated that the remainder was due after all work had been completed. At this point we lost confidence in Harelson/Firefly Electric, and hired another contractor to finish the job. The new contractor had no problem coordinating with SRP, and immediately found that the panel would need to be moved. After requesting a return of our deposit from Harelson and being denied, we filed a lawsuit and won a judgment for the entire deposit plus expenses. During the course of the legal proceedings we found that the statutory agent listed for Firefly Electric is non-existent, and the business location listed on the company website is also not correct; however, Firefly Electric still shows these false listings. The lawsuit resulted in multiple mandatory court appearances, one of which Harelson did not show for and another at which he was obviously impaired, to the point that the judge asked if he had a drink before court that morning. Also, discovery in the court action revealed that Harelson has one account for both his business and personal expenses. Despite the judgment in our favor, a court-directed payment plan, and approval to garnish assets, Harelson has refused to pay and has repeatedly stated that he is filing for bankruptcy. There are many electrical contractors in the Phoenix area; our recommendation is to select one that does not list false business information, is not currently in debt to former clients, and respects the legal system. read more

In general I am a DIY person. However, I have a newborn that doubles as a black hole for time so doing anything, much less a big project was out of the question. I wanted to do three main projects - rewire the pool pad, install coach lights, and install a receptacle for a car charger in the garage. I checked NextDoor and found all the electricians that people suggested and contacted them all. I contacted 6 of them and this is how this all panned out. 2 never returned a call/email/showed up for their appointment 3 came out and gave a verbal estimate but never would return my calls/emails to give me a written quote. 1 came out to give me a verbal estimate, talked to me about my overall scope of my project, allowed me to change my mind over details a few times, measured the distances for the project, called/voicemail, and gave me a written quote. Can you guess who the last one was? You guessed it - it was Ryan of Firefly. Everyone else was a dud. I am not sure why there was such a discrepancy of levels of service. The only thing I can think of is that the scope of my project was simply too big for some of these guys OR it was simply more profitable to go do small jobs (lets face it, it is probably more profitable to change a fan than it is to do one of my big projects) and instead of just saying "this is too big for me, I'll pass" they just ignored me. Who knows. But Ryan came through. I actually only did two of my three projects - the pool pad rewire and installed a car charger. I over-engineered both projects and thus spent more so I cut one of the projects out until a later time. My pool project was what I'd consider a pretty big residential project. I basically had a sub-panel installed which for me meant going from 0.5" conduit to 1.5" conduit and running big wires. To get all that out to the back yard we had to cut concrete. This may have been what scared some of the people off. The only thing I can fault Ryan for is that I didn't completely confirm how I wanted the pool panel conduit to be ran. My previous conduit was ran along the bottom of my house and I thought that Ryan would remove that and install the new conduit in it's place. Instead he installed it higher on the wall. While this makes good engineering sense (less moisture up there), I was a bit taken back by the installation location. In the end it was fine it was just when I went and saw it after he was done I was a little taken back because it wasn't what I expected. Ryan did explain himself well and even showed me the old conduit that was rusted out due to it's location. So in conclusion, if you want someone that will take you from verbal quote to work done AND all the steps in between then Ryan is a good guy to do business with, especially if your projects are beyond changing a fan or replacing a wall switch. read more

I needed some new recessed lights installed in a bonus room and bought all the supplies thinking I would do it myself. Ultimately, I decided to find an electrician and messaged several on Yelp. Firefly responded quickly and set up an appointment for the next day. They showed up on time, knew exactly what to do, and quoted a fair price for labor. 2 hours later they had finished the entire job and the lights looked great! The only thing they could have done better is used a shop vac while cutting holes in the drywall to minimize dust. They did cover everything with plastic to protect furniture, rugs, etc., but drywall dust still gets everywhere and some cleanup was required. Ryan just left our place and totally pleased with the outcome. We had an outdoor lighting sconce that was not working and I had narrowed it down to "something in the wiring" - AKA, "call a professional". I actually found and contacted Firefly Electric on Yelp and the entire process went smooth. They even send text alerts to confirm your appointment, also for when the technician is on the way. Ryan explained the process and possible charges and then got to work. He was extremely friendly and professional, explaining it in terms that made sense to me. He found and repaired the problem in fairly short order, ended up being a disconnected wire inside the wall. He corrected everything, no surprise charges or fees, totally smooth transaction. I noticed he even cleaned up the area he was working in. I know that sounds small, but to me it shows he takes pride in his work - in addition to his positive attitude. I have had other technicians/contractors that just do the job and leave their mess for you to clean up. No huge deal but Ryan's professionalism was noticed and appreciated. Like most anyone probably reading this, I was nervous for what an electrician might find, and how much it might cost me. I can tell you that my experience with Ryan and Firefly Electric was positive and the charges were fair. I also trust Ryan's work and it's hard to put a price on having "piece of mind". Had a guy come out to quote moving the electrical components for a pool filter. Guy who came out first contacted me to let me know he was running late. He very much sounded like he had just rolled out of bed on the phone, and didn't seem like his morning coffee had kicked in by the time he arrived at my place. In all, he seemed barely interested in the job, took no pictures, was in-and-out in less than five minutes. I'd love to be able to say whether or not their pricing was appropriate, but I never received a quote. I give two stars for calling me up and letting me know they were running late (a courtesy I appreciate), and for at least showing up. But considering the lack of interest, and for ghosting me, that's as far as I can go. read more

A complete waste of time. I contacted a few electricians in my area because I had an issue with my microwave tripping the breaker. I ending up choosing Firefly Electric because of their great reviews. I messaged them through Yelp and had an appointment scheduled 2 day later for a technician to come out. I was told their pricing was $195 an hour and that included labor and materials. On the day of my appointment, I received a call from the technician and was told I would be receiving my quote by phone and told I need to schedule another appointment for the job. I took time off work to be available and received a pointless phone call. Don't waste your time with this unprofessional company if you value your time. read more

Update 7/1/2021: Very very impressed. The owner called me out of concern of the way the other company installed the transformer in the wall, he was concerned that it could start a fire because it was not to code. I did not know this. He had a better idea on how to install a different kind of transformer that would be safe to put in the wall. He came on his own dime with the part that he bought himself and set it up today. This company takes total ownership of their work and you should never worry about going with them. Very upset that the other electric company would endanger my son by putting something that gets so hot inside the wall of his bedroom. The picture below with the white cover with the small slots is the result of Ryan the owner coming to fix the work and putting in a transformer that won't overheat in the wall. The owner issued me a full refund for the transformer install for my inconvenience, which was completely unnecessary and beyond any of my expectations. I kept trying to pay him but he wouldn't accept it! Definitely go with these guys! First Review: Felt very overcharged for the quality of work. They left drywall dust everywhere and did not clean up after themselves. When they moved my son's bed they broke part of the wood the way they moved it, I discovered this after they left and had to move the bed back (they didn't move it back) and fix it best I could, then shop vac all the drywall dust. They left a transformer exposed up on the wall in my son's room, and they didn't indicate there was any other option on how to configure it. It looked horrible, and no boxes they sell at home depot were big enough to cover it (see photos). I only hired them because my go-to company was booked up. I ended up using my go-to company anyway to fix the exposed transformer issue. The technician was nice but he kept having to step outside on calls and it felt like the job took a really long time for what was actually accomplished. Would not go with these guys again. The quality of work was lower than companies I've used, but the charge was higher. read more

Sherman installed 7 light fixtures in my house, and also did an electrical outlet on my wall for my wall mounted TV.
