F & M Fire Protection Service - The front of F&M Fire Protection

F & M Fire Protection Service

Got tuned into the need to check my fire extinguishers after lately seeing so many deaths and…read moredestruction by house fires in the news. Without an education about inspection or servicing my extinguishers, I just assumed the units would work when needed and I would know instinctively how to use them. So, 'attending to my home's extinguishers' never made it to my to-do list. After getting a brief education on youTube, I learned how critical fire extinguishers are to home safety. Since Fire Departments are so enthusiastic about smoke, carbon dioxide, and radon detectors, I was disappointed to learn that not only do they not execute recharging and inspections but the service rep had no referrals. Recommendations to homeowners regarding fire extinguisher protocols, inspection, and usage should rate the same attention as their smoke detector promotions. Workshops on when and how to use fire extinguishers should be standard in our schools, hospitals, airports, businesses, home owner insurer inspections, etc as well as part of our Fire Departments' community education programming, locally and nationwide. Think about the potential exposures to fire during and after impacts on structures by extreme weather events. Moreover, so many vehicles have recalls with warnings of spontaneous combustion while driving and/or when garaged. Even airplanes, electric vehicles, and electronic devices have increased instances of battery fires and explosions. Domestic airlines just established a mandate that all battery packs and battery-driven devices be displayed and NOT packed in cargo OR in overhead cabin luggage due to recent fires. Nonetheless, my online search turned up F&M FIRE PROTECTION with a five star rating for inspection and recharging fire extinguishers, among other services. This company should be on the Fire Department's resource list for local fire extinguisher services. Though I figured my units were too old to recharge, rather than default to an online purchase, my choice to visit in person was the right move. This location is a great value if you are in the market for fire extinguishers, inspection, and/or recharging. After shopping by browser, I found per unit rates to be same as online with the added value of receiving a full understanding of related data points you may not have considered. Though the building is tucked away in an industrial park, GPS can get you there without a hitch. Worth the side trip to be struck by the high-spirited, personable attention you get, delivered by a light-hearted team with a gallery of antiques on display.

Once I made it the staff was all welcoming and made me feel at ease and relaxed. The tagging was quick and inexpensive. I will be back next year!!! Date of visit 04/2025. C. Weeden

Metropolis is a company that is strangely managed. On several occasions my two condo accounts have…read morehad incorrect balances. It is disturbing that the incorrect record keeping balances range from $500- $1500. I'm finally moving away from the drama and don't wish this management company on anyone. --Tired of dealing with.

Our HOA was managed by Metropolis from November 2017 to April 2026. I became a resident in 2021…read more During this time, there were concerns about a potential conflict of interest involving the former HOA President and Metropolis owners. For a period, the former HOA President operated without broader Board involvement. Work was authorized and completed without documented community awareness, competitive bids, or formal approval. In 2023, payments exceeding $12,000 were made to the former HOA President for work performed; requests for prior invoices were not fulfilled. There was also a direct payment to owner, Smita Pai, exceeding $4,000; Metropolis has refused to provide an explanation of services provided for this invoice. Requests for the independent auditor's identity, engagement letter, and audit findings were not completed until legal counsel became involved. The association has since initiated a forensic audit to review financial management and use of funds. In 2026, the HOA provided notice to terminate the contract in accordance with Virginia Code 55.1-1837 (60-day notice). Metropolis did not accept this timeline. A complaint has been filed with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and is currently under review. DPOR also indicated the company is operating under the name MCM, LLC. Additional issues during the management period included an expired DPOR license, inaccuracies in financial records, limited responsiveness, lack of on-site support, restricted access to the management portal despite repeated requests, and inconsistent enforcement of community policies. I will update this review once we receive the results of our forensic audit, but in summary: Please save yourself, your fellow Board Members and your community from Metropolis. Working with Metropolis will result in losing the respect and trust of your community, as well as your hard earned money.
