So 2018 was a "Special Edition" race, but now that I look at the reviews, it seems to me that EVERY YEAR is special edition (insert eye roll emoji here). I signed up for the race at the RnR LA expo, so it only cost me $100, which isn't horrible. It's not great either, but I justified it with the jacket. As race day approached, I started to dread it more and more, primarily because of the emails stating that you had to get on the 5:30AM shuttle bus if you hadn't picked up your packets the day before. Plus it had been cold as fuck in the mornings recently. But I set my alarm for 3:45 AM and drove down with my friends from the LA area at 4:30. UGGGHHH The shuttle from downtown Temecula to the winery took a good 20 minutes. And of course, packet pick up took all of 2 seconds. So basically, we had like an hour and a half to kill before race time and they wouldn't let us stand inside the winery nor did they have any heaters out. They even made you pay for coffee and bagels and stuff. What part of DIVAS marathon did they not understand?? The race itself was hilly and boring. They really need to stop advertising themselves as "flat" because it is a FLAT out lie. The beginning was very nice because right when we started running, a bunch of hot air balloons launched in the distance over the vineyards. Then right after mile 4, you hit your first steep hill and it is a killer. After that it's rolling hills the rest of the way. Also a good 4-5 miles of the race is on dirt with loose pebbles. It's not exactly a trail run, but something to keep in mind if you're used to running asphalt. Don't expect much in the way of crowd support because there is ZERO. I was also disappointed that there aren't any photographers on course, only at the finish line. On the plus side the pictures are free. Finish line festivities were meh. Water, bananas, oranges and some nasty bean chips lol. You can have a tasting of 4 wines or just exchange your ticket for 1 glass. I felt bad for the firefighers because they looked young and I would be super embarrassed to have to do that. Overall, not a race I would repeat, but I could see how it would appeal to a certain demographic.

You had me (sign up) at wine tasting!…read more You know you're a runner when... you sign up for a Special Edition race for February the following year... and it's only summer (2014). Then you stalk the registration site with your running friends so when midnight strikes, you're one of the few thousands to have purchased a bib. That's exactly what happened when I signed up for Divas Half, Temecula. I lost sleep and a couple of hundred dollars to ensure I got that golden ticket to run this race. SWAGS: Run Like a Diva promised swags to include tutus, feather boas, a tiara, a free race picture, a race shirt, complimentary wine glass and wine tasting, and a to die for medal/bling. And.... they delivered. I think it's a pretty good way to get even non-runners to sign up for this event any day! I mean... c'mon! Even men signed up for this race. I actually liked this race... even though I felt a bit off. I forgot my salt tabs so I was hitting the restrooms (4) on the first half of the half. I kept thinking to myself how this race could have been my PR; But at the same time an inner voice in me is telling me to slow down and save my leg for another race in a couple of weeks. So, I was hitting them restrooms fast and running slower. The HILLS: I used to hate running hills... actually I still do. My arse and calves have not been this sore in quite a while. So, I get it now... California Flat is no such thing. That was a cruel joke. Even the run to the finish line was a killer. Thanking that girl who pushed me to race her to the top - as I whispered to you jokingly, "You WILL not win." Post Race Food: Again, another tasteless joke. I was walking in circles trying to find the post-race food. They provided us with a banana, dried fruits (that could probably feed a bird) and a small bag of pretzels. At this point, I wanted to give back the tutu and tiara for some protein bar. They did have burgers and salads outside where the expo was, but something that heavy is not what I tend to eat after a long run. The WINE tasting: So, after swallowing the banana whole, I headed for my free 2 oz. wine tasting in my own personal Diva wine glass. Word. This running diva is happy. Final thought: Divas is a great race to do for first timers, but I don't think it's worth over $165 to do this race again... even if you try to bribe me with light up tutus and pixie dust.

I found her facility online and my mom and I set up a time to come see the place. After looking into the costs of food, board, and other expenses, my mom came to the conclusion that she simply couldn't afford it. When Tanya heard this, she offered to let me come by to help groom and exercise some of her horses. In exchange for helping with their care, I also got to ride in the arena with her trainer. Sometimes I would ride along in the "Gator" that she uses to get across her property quickly, and sometimes helped with little things, like cleaning and filling water buckets or helping to feed. I am honestly thankful for these opportunity to learn what it's really like to own and care for a horse. Tanya provides a unique opportunity to any child that would like to learn about horses. I am now out of high school and just moved back after doing a couple of years of college in Colorado, and I am back working with Tanya and her herd again. I've only been back about a month, but I can personally say that all of her animals still look great. In addition to the horses, she also has Emus, Alpacas, monkeys, wallabies, peacocks, and more. I have never seen her skip a feeding, and she pays me well to do all of the cleaning. Her animals mean a great deal to her, and I have even seen her fire employees for mistreating her animals. Aside from all the animals, she also has some great amenities, such as a covered arena, a barn, 2 tack rooms, jumps of all different heights, barrels, wash areas, stalls with runs, pastures, and more. Tanya has a great facility, whether you're looking to board, or just wanting to see some unusual animals, you won't be disappointed! :)

What could've turned into a bad experience turned into an awesome one! P.S - Yes, the stables are hard to find and we had to call them several times to find the place but hey, it's in the middle of nowhere! :P

Of course it's dry and hot so make sure to have enough water with you. Even in the morning, the sun was beating down. So just be prepared. You'll run into other hikers along the path which is nice to see. I'm not sure how long the whole trail is as it continues and has loops here and there. Kate agreed to work with us even though her recommendation was for me to start with a more suitable horse. I just wasn't able to do this and was commited to the mare. Kate has been very patiently working with us. My goal was to compete in Dressage. We have had a few set backs in our training progress but now Kate has a beautiful, what I would call a 'boutique' training facility and we are finally on our way. The barn is a place I go to relax, spend time with my horse, train hard and commune with other dressage enthusiasts. We are now riding/competing in First Level and doing well - scores consistently in the 60s at rated shows. My mare gets top care at Peikert Performance Horses. She gets fed 4 times a day - one of which is a supplement feed that I provide/prepare, her stall which has an outdoor run is cleaned 3-4 times per day, she is blanketed/unblanketed as needed throughout the day and she is turned out 5 times a week. The arena has the best ever footing that is groomed regularly and dust is not allowed. With this year's unusually large amount of rain we haven't missed more than 2/3 days of riding. The main arena with the dressage court dries relatively quickly. The HydroKeep makes this possible - which also keeps footing moist when watered. There is also a field that is set for riding. It has a slight grade, with footing as well that is always dry enough to work in even after a downpour. The near by trials in the preserve are perfect for a training break!
