A great spot to hang out and grab drinks with friends or be packed into a cramped bar with drowning music in the background. It all depends on the night. Overall, I like Finnegan's Wake. The drinks are strong, well-priced, and there are always a wide variety of brands to choose from. The bartenders are friendly and make you feel like a regular, even if you only pop in once a month or so. That being said, this type of experience usually only applies Monday-Thursday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday are a completely different ballgame. On the weekends, Finnegan's turns from a relaxing Irish pub into a main Tallahassee music venue with Fifth & Thomas, adding swarms of people, a bouncer, seating that you have to fight for, and deafening background noise. Although the bartenders try to keep up, it's hard to to get to the bar and then even harder to have them hear your order. I know it is what it is, but it's hard to enjoy a visit hear on the weekends. Overall then, Finnegan's makes for a relaxing spot with friends on off-nights, but be prepared for what you're getting yourself into on the weekends. read more

The food at this establishment was quite possibly the worst "Irish" pub fare I have ever consumed. The Shepard's Pie was drier than the Sahara and looked like it had just been pulled out of a Marie Calender's box. The Loaded Tots were topped with warmed up ham cold cuts and shredded cheddar cheese, warm but not completely melted, ew. The only redeeming quality of the tots was the beer cheese sauce that I used to drown out the frozen tot flavor. To add insult to injury, I was served a Guinness from a bottle which is a damn disgrace given the place calls itself an Irish pub. It wasn't even a full pint of Guinness! The atmosphere was palatable but the music was some random DJ Press Play big booty remix. Why no Irish music? Or something a bit more on "theme"? And I say theme, because that is all it was, a theme. An idea in the ether that remained unfulfilled in reality, and is only supported by the numbing effect of the spirits on the visitor who must pretend they are in an Irish Pub. read more

I love this bar. I don't know if it is the Irish Pub Vibe or that it reminds me of my favorite bar at Disney World, Rose & Crown. Finnegan's Wake is a local Irish pub filled with Whiskey and lots of beer. It is centered in midtown and is a pregame type spot before you go to the dance floors of Fifth & Thomas (Tap Room). This place also is a go to spot for watching sports and enjoying some Irish Car Bombs on St Patrick's Day. The staff is a mix of old and new, some not too friendly but others with big bright smiles. There is a little inconsistency here, but they do a good job nonetheless. The crowd is also a full mix of people young and older. It is a nice spot to escape from the college bars and they are much stricter with the 21+ age requirement. Drinks are affordable and there is all liquor and beer options to please everyone. Fridays and Saturdays are the nights to hit this spot up. It gets very crowded and sometimes hard to find a seat. Expect loud conversations and sometimes people screaming. Like other bars, as the night goes on expect drunks to start spilling everywhere, smells to form and the body heat to rise. Other than that, enjoy your drinks, move to the background music, and bond with your friends. I really do not compare Finnegan's Wake to any other bars in Tallahassee because it tends to have a uniqueness like nothing else. read more

I came here with my sister on a Sunday night to listen to Irish music and we had a great time. Finnegan's Wake is a small dark Irish bar with themed drinks and music. They had a special $3 lucky charm shot running, that had vodka, mango, sour mix, and Sprite, but I wasn't feeling a shot, so I requested the bartender pour the shot into a tumbler and fill it the rest of the way with Sprite... it ended up being absolutely delicious! Great little gem right around the corner from my place in Midtown. Even though it was pretty busy, it managed not to be overwhelming. My +1 ordered a Black and Tan which the bar tender executed perfectly. Really easy drink to mess up, but it came out layered and neat, ice cold, with just the right amount of head. I ordered a White Russian. I'm going to tell you how my bar tender turned what could have been a disappointment into a large win. A White Russian is Vodka, Kailua and half and half served over ice. The bar had neither Kailua or H/H. But they did have coffee infused Van Gogh vodka and whipping cream... after a delicate hand and experimenting with the measures I had me a drink I was gladly willing to accept as a White Russian. This is a great little Irish pub in the middle of Tallahassee! It made me feel like I was back in Dublin, with the art on the walls and the low lighting. I went for a drink and to listen to an Irish music session that was happening that night. I had such a great time. The drinks were reasonably-priced and really well-made. I can usually tell if a place knows what they're doing when they make my favorite drink (Jameson and ginger ale with a splash of lime) and this one was delicious! Finnegan's is a place that I usually stop at while in Tallahassee. They have a good environment and when I've been there is hasn't been too crazy and the bartenders are pretty good about taking care of the customers. Had the brunch today and it was spectacular!!! We had a group of 8 and tried everything on the menu and nothing disappointed. I had the chocolate chips pancakes with coffee caramel and Baileys whipped cream and it was heaven. The corned beef hash with poached eggs was amazing and I normally don't even like corned beef. No smoking is a definte plus, but this is no "Irish" bar. It is one of those fake "bar in a box" places. Drinks are a bit overpriced, but that is the norm for this part of town. The kicker is when the waitress couldn't properly pronounce Smithwicks. Even though you are a fake Irish bar, you should at least know the proper pronunciation of the Irish beer you sell. This used to be my "neighborhood bar" but I've moved, so I don't go there as often. Depending upon what time you are there it morphs from a laid back local joint catering to young pro's hanging with real movers and shakers to Poser fratboys and their entourage. My advice, Chill for a couple hours at happy hour and interact with some seriously smart folks, then go to one of the local eateries, most within a mile, then come back and enjoy the scenery.
