Truly awful. (I'd give it zero stars if only that were an option.)
I ordered what was listed as "Irish stew" but it was like no Irish stew I've ever eaten, seen, or heard about. The so-called "stew" which was served on a flat plate was in fact a thick, white, glutinous gravy, with only tiny bits of shredded mutton, containing no vegetables discernible by eye or by taste. The overall impression was that it was a thick, pale goo (looking more like something that had been previously digested). My guess is that it was made by adding flour or cornstarch and water or milk to mutton grease with some small scraps of meat left in the pan. This white goo was accompanied by two vegetables: boiled carrots with absolutely no seasoning, but which at least still looked like carrots and retained some faint taste of carrot despite the overcooking, and chopped cabbage that had been boiled so long that it was soft and devoid of all flavor, with absolutely no seasoning or oil or anything added.
Since this place was recommended by a credible person whose other recommendations were reliable (including a recommendation for a very good Irish stew elsewhere), I can only guess that perhaps there was some recent change of ownership (or perhaps someone who'd never cooked was substituting for the chef). This "stew" was one of the worst meals I've ever had anywhere. read more
