So many people feel they need to travel far away to get good microblading or lash enhancements. Nope! These ladies are awesome! First "procedure" I had done with them was getting my eyebrows microbladed. I wasn't the "typical" client for microblading as I already had fairly defined brows but I was tired of spending time filling them in to make them as full as I wanted. Allie took a lot of time initially to set up my brows (something I'm incredibly thankful for seeing as her work would be on my face for up to 2 years) making sure my arch was where I wanted it and my brows began and ended where I preferred. Her insight was both valuable and appreciated. She takes her work very seriously and I was SO happy with how they turned out! Many people think this procedure is painful, it wasn't bad in my opinion. Allie made sure that the numbing cream was in effect before starting and she moved quickly (but precisely) to make sure I wasn't in pain. I've also had a lash lift and tint as well as extensions done by Riley. Riley is as precise and patient as her sister. The lift was beautiful and when I decided to do extensions she was happy to do it. They have added multiple other services with the focus of helping people live healthy lives and look their best doing it! Check them out! You won't be disappointed!

It seems like this salon offers quite a…read morefew services: coloring, male/female/children hair cuts, fancy up-dos, highlights/lowlights, massages, facial waxing, manicures, shellac manicures, pedicures, french manicures, and more. Studio 17 is interesting because it almost seems like a collective of a bunch of different professionals who happen to own the studio together. It's not a bad thing - it's kinda neat. But each "station" has a personal feel to it since it's one person's station, and each person decorates their own station how they want (unlike chain salons where each booth is shared by all of the staff). When you go to pay, you pay your salon professional individually - and if you use a card, you'll pay via the Square service on that professional's cell phone. So yeah, it seems like each person just happens to share the studio space. I love small businesses like that! The massage was quite enjoyable. I scheduled the appointment, and they managed to get me in same-day. You walk through the back-room (which is a storage area, possibly under construction, and not so pretty), but there's a small room in the back of the back room that's perfectly outfitted for massage. It has gentle music, a nice smell, gentle lighting, a warm temperature, perfect decorations, and everything. Honestly, I can't imagine a better massage space. It's far enough away from the studio and everything that you can't hear any noise aside from the music that's playing. The massage itself was great. It was my first massage, so I didn't do exactly what I was supposed to, but instead of mentioning it or asking me to change it, the massage therapist just pulled out an extra blanket from a corner and fixed the problem. I, of course, asked if I did something wrong to know for next time, and she was very friendly about letting me know. It's nice to know that she would go out of her way to make sure I was so relaxed and wasn't worried that I did something wrong. Very great massage, and I checked the time, and she even ran about 5 minutes over what I paid for. Great rates too. You can get an hour and a half for VERY reasonable rates. I liked my massage so much that I booked an appointment to get my tips dyed purple. It was more difficult to get a hair appointment, but they fit me in on one of my two choice days the next week. I went in for the appointment, and I was promptly taken in. The stylist was polite and not-too-chatty. She asked a rather personal question, but I don't think it was asked with rude intent. She did a fantastic job with my hair, and honestly, it looks stunning. I'm not sure how long the purple is going to last, but she did a great job following my requests, the purple is very vibrant, and she was gentle with my long hair too - even after it got knotted from the blow dry. Considering it took about two hours (mostly of me sitting and waiting for color to set, but I brought a book), the fee was completely reasonable. Once the color starts to fade, I'll be back in to see her to get it recolored. Maybe pink this time. (They offer a HUGE selection of awesome colors including natural colors if you want) The salon itself is well put together. It looks professional, and while it's obvious they could benefit from a bit more floor space, they make it work for them. It's comfortable, looks professional, and everyone there is friendly. My only complaint is they don't have a website. They have a Facebook that's semi-active, but seeing all their prices/services would be nice at a glance. They offer brochures in-store that you can see, or you can always call, but a website would be awesome. Final Thoughts: Great small business. If you find a favorite stylist, it seems pretty easy to book appointments only through them. They do a great job with good quality, and judging by the regulars that were in there, lots of Oelwein residents love this place. I'll definitely be back, and I love supporting a small business that's definitely producing awesome results at very affordable prices.

I am doing another update considering what recently happened. A month ago I had an appointment. I got a call from Spavia that my masseuse was not going to be able to make the appointment. We were able to set up a quick appointment for that weekend. That day came around and I got a call a couple hours before the appointment. The new masseuse had an emergency was wasn't going to be able to make it. This wasn't the norm and they were happy to offer additional changes to try and make up for the situation. It was really nice for them to offer the options that they did. They say this doesn't happen often and felt bad. Here is the normal massage breakdown. Warmed massage tables call my name on a cold Iowa evening. Darkened hallways start to set the mood. Electric candles line the floor to help guide you to where you need to be. Once you are in the locker room you can change into your robe and slippers. This is not required with every service they offer. You have your own locker which you set the lock. They have 2 little curtained off changing rooms. The wall hooks have broken over time, but if I can I just use the roomy bathroom to change. Once you have all your personal items locked away you can step into the lounging area. 4-5 different places to sit. Electric fireplace on the wall. Some books, gentle music, little water fountain. All the things to help you relax. They have warming neck wraps and hot water for tea. If you are early enough for your appointment, then take advantage and chill. When your time comes you get called back. My personal preference is one individual for body massages. I have to book months in advance to make sure I am getting him. I dont want to share, but its Eddy. He is amazing. He listens to me and remembers my preferences. After heavenly treatment you are escorted back to the lounge. You can hang out and decompress or you can head out. As of my last visit in Sept '24 they just updated the furniture in there. It is not really comfy as before. I have tried another service here, but prefer my monthly membership booking a massage each time. Read less

The gloves she wore irritated my skin. Her hands shook, like she was scared to touch me. They obviously have an esthetician doing body work, instead of a massage therapist. She never even touched my lower back or glutes and she accidentally poked my vagina twice during draping. The company called to say they would like to make it up to me, but when I called back the manager was out so I left a message and she never called back. Avoid this place.

Sydney and the gal who greeted me at the front desk were sweet and professional, luring me back for a follow-up even though I'd sworn to myself that I was only in for one appointment. The experience was so good ~ soothing voice & music, gentle hands, relaxing environment ~ I look forward to treating myself in the future for special occasions. The only downside was my post-treatment payment: The gal who rang me up both times (the salon manager?) was severely unfriendly, knocking me right out of my zen moment. If not for her, 5 stars.

I went to a girl named Hayley (Haleigh? Hayleigh? I'm not sure how it's spelled) at the north Ames location. I just wanted my hair trimmed and a lightened -- balayage, highlights, whatever -- I didn't really care. I always trust my stylist to do what makes the most sense. That's it. Trim the dead ends and make my hair blonder. She seemed confident so I totally trusted her. First, she left me sitting with bleach in my hair for 40 minutes while she LEFT to go eat her dinner. She came back, took my to the sink to shampoo/rinse and put a toner in my hair. She left me there for another 55 minutes (super uncomfortable sitting with your head in a sink for 55 minutes lol) while she left to GO TO THE CAFE ACROSS THE STREET. What? She went to go buy cheesecake with her coworkers. She came back, ate her cheesecake, then came back to me. She washed my hair, blow dried it, and it was awful. My hair was grey and purple. Then she trimmed it, and screwed up the trimming around my face so much I ended up looking like I had a mullet. A grey and purple mullet. Yes. Anywho, I was polite about it but said I was unhappy and surprised by the result. She offered to try and fix it the next day and I declined and just asked to not be charged. They declined my request, and charged me almost twice the amount it said I'd be charged on their website ($113 on their website, and they charged $197). I went to Leedz Salon the next day and they fixed it. They're wizards. Please just go to Leedz instead and stay far away from this place.
