Needless too say I was extremely impressed as I walked the rows of iced fish with eyes so clear -- they almost twinkled. Listing all of the fish Dave's has available would really paint a better picture of the enormous varieties, all but the highly elusive -- Devils Hole Pupfish. If there was an area that lacked it would be the Bivalvia class, IE: oysters and clams, minus Little Neck and Top Neck clams but I point the dirty end of the stick at YOU the consumer for not creating the adequate demand, so hence forth - I shall carry that torch. Six squid at six ninety nine a pound, octopus a few bucks north of that, whole Tilapia at two fifty a pound, shrimp of many different waters and size and a few salmon steaks -- just because i can never seem to leave a fish store without. For a Saturday afternoon the store was surprisingly empty and the lines were short. In and out, all said the shopping in and out took twenty minutes.

The highlight here is definitely the variety. They have a well-stocked fresh produce section. The store also carries a wide range of international and South Asian/Caribbean pantry staples and spices, which makes finding authentic ingredients a breeze. Good prices, and free parking, definitely recommend checking out Kalam's Bazaar. Review for: 10/19/25

This supermarket is gargantuan retail space with a free large parking lot shared with neighboring business IHOP. Patrons can now eat pancakes and grocery shopping at the same location! Newly opened with a grand opening ubiquitous party debut on Friday, September 5, 2025 including a large inflatable jumping castle in the parking lot for children to run amok which I regretfully entered amid the chaos and large crowd and made my usual fast exit. I returned on a quieter day with a few purchases that gratefully totaled less than $10.00. Price is very reasonable (depending the product for tariff, and industry standard cost) for today's plaguing egregious cost of living expenses. Recyclable bags are provided without the aggravating and frivolous $0.05 charge. These are the only two reasons for my four star review. There are brand name grocery items as UTZ potato chips, Goya Maria cookies and Ricola herb cough drops. There is a fish market where patrons can request fishmongers to gut, scale, and fillet fish. Customer service is very mediocre. The checkout line is very chaotic and the aisles are rather difficult to navigate as customer stand and talk in garrulous manner than actually decide to buy the item to block the aisle preventing passage for others to walk. Certainly Kalam's Bazaar is the "community hub" for the central gathering place of frivolous talk! The conversations was vapid and utterly uninteresting among fellow customers as I make my way passage into the aisle. This location is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit A train at Rockaway Boulevard (this station splits final destination to either Lefferts Boulevard and Far Rockaway), Queens, NYC.

The lines are always from counter to door. On my recent visit, I saw that they installed a few kiosks to help with the output. I used it and waited about 10 mins for my order while the line moved slowly. They are also on Uber Eats, if you want to avoid the wait. Some of my favorites are the doubles, bake & shark, chicken roti and most of their curry selections. Everything with medium pepper of course! Food is always delicious and filling. Staff can be a little bit testy but that comes with being in Caribbean territory..lol

The boneless curry chicken with channa was packed with flavor and plenty of delicious curry sauce, paired with a generously sized, soft, fluffy paratha roti. The doubles was messy (as a good doubles should be! The messier, the better!), but the bara had that nice texture I love. The pepper and tamarind sauces were a nice touch, too! The Caribbean chicken soup was hearty and flavorful, although I would've loved a few more dumplings. The dhal was delicious, nice and chunky with that wonderful roasted geera and garlic flavor. It paired beautifully with rice later on. I purchased a side of pepper sauce i've got a nice size small container to last me for a while! Rounded out the order with some kurma for a sweet treat. Overall, a satisfying taste of Trinidad with plenty of authentic Caribbean flavor. Definitely worth ordering again!

They tend to stay and keep the workers company during low volume times. I'm all for it. Safety first. Store is much better now that it's been updated and given a fresh new name but make no mistake, this is not a new business. They've been here forever. The guys at the counter are competent and some are even so friendly that they remember my son's name and ask after him if it's been a while since they last saw him. That alone makes them a business worth patronizing. How you treat young kids is indicative of you as a person in my eyes. The fact that they are all very genuine in their interactions with me and my son as neighbors, means I'll keep coming and spending my hard earned money with them. The juices and the foods are good.
