The space itself is intimate, fairly small but utilized well. Bench tables and bar seating with a TV, fake fireplace, and a throwback arcade game. The bartender was so friendly and welcoming. Dark but not in a pretentious way. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, it was essentially just us and a few isolated people at the bar. We played a board game we had brought and had a great time. The beers themselves were not my favorite. There is a good variety and the prices are super agreeable, but I wasn't really thrilled by any of the IPA choices specifically. Probably just me. My biggest gripe with the place, however, is the music. I appreciate that this is super dependent on who is working but for a darkly lit brewery, I wouldn't have chosen the classic/elevator/slow music that was playing overhead. Parking is super easy. Also, I am very curious in their connection to the leather making studio next door and would be interested in the pop-ups that happen here once monthly!

You only need 1-2 to feel relaxed. :) The beer prices are great too. The vibe here is great, with a lot of seating options and card + board games to keep you occupied. Dog friendly as well! I was able to get a bowl of water for my little one. Nice views of the water too if you prefer to sit outside. I like how it is bring your own food. I saw a small group having a little birthday party and they had pizza and a cake that they brought. I went to the Food Bazaar grocery a block or two away and got a sandwich from their deli to bring to the brewery. Next door is a cidery, I think a different owner. Outrageously expensive ($17 for a small glass of cider? lol). Stick to strong rope! They do have a cider or two on their menu normally. 2 minutes away is Steve's Key Lime Pie - recommend if you like frozen key lime pies on a stick dipped in chocolate ;)

Strong Rope Brewery was a fantastic find…read more We stumbled in on a cold December afternoon and immediately loved the vibe. Sitting right on the water, this place clearly shines year-round, but it is easy to imagine how great it would be in warmer weather posted up outside by the river. Seating is well thought out, a mix of outdoor and indoor picnic tables along with traditional tables and chairs, so it works for everyone. If it had been warmer, we definitely would have been outside. Inside, the decor is playful and welcoming, with quirky wall art, a great keg wall, and clear views into the working brewery. The beer lineup was solid across the board. I had their Pubkin beer, which was a pleasant surprise, and my wife enjoyed a hot toddy that hit perfectly on a cold day. We stayed for a couple of drinks before heading to a nearby reservation, and it was the perfect afternoon break between distillery hopping. Prices were very reasonable, and the biereria taco truck outside made grabbing food easy without breaking the flow. Friendly for both locals and visitors alike. If you are in this part of town, it is absolutely worth the stop.

SingleCut Beersmiths is a craft brewery that opened in Astoria, Queens, New York in December 2012…read more It was founded by Rich Buceta. The Queens native began homebrewing in his apartment in 2004 and eventually was hired to work at the now defunct Greenpoint Beer Works in Brooklyn. A huge music fan, Buceta decided to combine his passion for craft beer and music and open his own brewery. In order to finance his dream, Buceta sold off his collection of vintage guitars. When the brewery finally opened, it was the first production brewery to open in Queens since Prohibition. The name "Singlecut" was chosen in reference to the luthier term for a guitar that is crafted with a single cutaway, or a notch cut into the body of the instrument on one side to provide easier access to the upper frets. SingleCut quickly became a popular New York brewery and by 2017 it had reached capacity. In 2018, the brewery purchased the former Shmaltz Brewing Company facility in Clifton Park. Dubbed "SingleCut North", the secondary taproom fully opened to the public in September 2019. A third taproom, dubbed "SingleCut Barn & Lodge", fully opened in Manlius in April 2023. I visited SingleCut Beersmiths this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my fifth stop of the day. The taproom in Astoria is spacious and inviting. I really liked the back room which was loaded with a nice selection of pinball machines. I pulled up a seat at the bar. There's a big stack of vinyl records on shelves and the staff were spinning a great selection of tunes during my visit. Throughout my visit, I enjoyed short pours of "18-Watt" (Session IPA), "Big In Japan" (DDH IPA), "Full Stack" (Double IPA), and "Heavy Boots of Lead" (Imperial Stout). Every single beer that I tried was fantastic! Great craft beer, vinyl and pinball?! I could have spent all day here! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to SingleCut and I hope to be back!

Prices are very reasonable for 4oz pours so it was great to try a bunch of different brews. They had a great stout! Also seems like they hold events like music bingo, so I'm definitely hoping to come back sometime.
