I adopted my cat from AAHS in 2009, and she has been such a wonderful addition to our little furry…read morefamily! I would recommend AAHS to anyone looking for a new pet, whether it be a cat, dog or small animal. They really take the time to make sure you get paired with the right pet; they use the ASPCA's Meet Your Match Program to help with this pairing, plus the adoption counselors really know all the animals so well that they can steer you to the right animal for you! All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, updated vaccines, a whole adoption packet to take home, collar, etc. plus lifetime advice and assistance from the staff. They have so many services available in addition to adoptions, too! They have monthly Pet Care Clinics with low cost vaccines, flea treatments, microchips and nail trims; their Spay & Neuter Center with low cost, high quality spays and neuters as well as other services at the time of surgery; and several other programs to help animals in our area.

Here I thought that the humane society would be in the business of trying to find permanent homes…read morefor their pets. Guess, you have to look a certain way, talk and walk a certain way before they will help you. All I got was a run around when looking to adopt. So, I say, go ahead and keep wasting tax-payer and investors money by NOT doing what you were established to do by turning people away from adopting. No longer interested in getting a pet from them now. They've tainted my first experience and am not looking to interact with them again. Just wanted to find a mate for my pet but, seems that's too much for them. Not saying they weren't nice...oh, they were nice through all of it. The no follow through on their word to get back with me...the continued excuses about what they 'couldn't' do because (someone else - Supervisor) isn't available...in 3 days? Shame on you Athens Area Humane Society. I was hoping that you genuinely cared for the animals but, I see you'd rather turn it into a 'privileged' thing instead. Ok. No problem. I'll go elsewhere.
