While driving across Nebraska, Monroe Nebraska became our stomach rumbling lunch stop. We started out with a cheese curds appetizer in a basket surrounded in tinfoil as if it was ready and prepared to launch to the moon. Little cup of Ranch dressing was a perfect combination even for Neil Armstrong. I ordered a smothered Swiss mushroom burger and my girlfriend ordered a cheeseburger. What is better to eat in Nebraska other than Cow? Our lunch hit the spot and the loud country music set the mood. I'm sure this place gets rowdy on both a Friday and Saturday night. For us, we had a very quiet lunch.

It's been many years since I've been back, and I was so sad to see that they really haven't kept the restaurant up very well. While traveling on business, I thought I would grab some lunch and work on a project. A hostess offered to seat me, but became quickly confused about exactly where to put me and we ended up walking to several areas of the restaurant that had empty tables before she was able to get some assistance and find the right booth for me to sit in. Unfortunately, they do not have Wi-Fi so I wasn't able to stay. I would have ordered their classic "French Cheesy" sandwich which sells for only $4.50 (it is sold a la carte, as all of the sandwiches are). Much of the menu is fried, although they do offer a salad. I choose to keep my nice memories of the granary as a fun, family-friendly place to eat. I was really sad to see that it had aged so much. I hope that it's current owners, or anyone who takes it over in the future will opt to redo the interior & give it the love that it needs. It's meant to feel warm and homey. This has definitely been a treasured restaurant in Norfolk for many years and it deserves to be taken care of.

It has been three years since we were last in Nebraska, but Husker remains to be the best Steakhouse in the area. My cousin had the Chicken Fried Steak, our daughter had the Jack Daniels Sirloin and my wife, being vegetarian had salad, green beans and baked potato. All were excellent. The Jack Daniels flavor was a bit strong on the steak but she enjoyed it also. I was fortunate to have the last Duck special. It was remaining from the Thursday night Duck Feast. Wow. It came with Duck Stuffing, Sauerkraut with Dumplings and a huge serving of Duck. The hostess at the front was extremely friendly, and even checked on us to ensure a server was going to visit us. The server was excellent. She had perfect timing and was very engaging. Thank you Husker for being such a great Steakhouse and a great place to visit.
