If you are a pet parent and you love your pets like human children, do not sign up with FIGO just because it is promoted through Costco. That was the worst decision I made. I pay over $110 every month in premiums, yet the maximum annual coverage is only $10,000. Despite that, any time a claim involves prescribed medication, they almost always look for a way to deny it, labeling necessary treatments as "non-covered" instead of honoring the veterinarian's treatment plan. Most recently, my dog developed a corneal ulcer and required a veterinary visit. On the receipt, there was a $72.50 credit balance, which came from a prior visit where the clinic charged for Wei Qi Booster but did not dispense it. For clarity, I am fully aware that FIGO does not reimburse holistic care, unlike other insurance providers I use. This credit had nothing to do with the ulcer visit or the claim amount. Despite this, FIGO closed the claim without a single explanation. No email. No call. No request for clarification. The claim was simply closed. This perfectly summarizes my experience with this company: when clarification is required, they choose silence and closure instead of communication and due diligence. Appeal Process After the claim was closed without explanation, I opened an appeal. Only then did FIGO respond, stating that the claim was "not denied," but merely "closed and pending additional information." This statement directly contradicts their actions. At no point did they request additional information before closing the claim. They also claimed they were unable to verify information with my veterinarian, despite the clinic being open Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The reality is simple: no meaningful attempt was made to verify anything. Closing the claim first and explaining later is not an appeal process. It is negligence. Additional Context Based on My Long-Term Experience When I first signed up, I insured one cat and one dog. At the time of enrollment, my cat was healthy with no illness history. The only note in her medical record was obesity, and the veterinarian advised a diet plan. She successfully lost over 2 pounds, which is clearly documented in her records as intentional and supervised weight loss. About one year later, my cat began vomiting and losing weight rapidly. She was examined and diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, a completely different medical condition. She ultimately required I-131 treatment, which is the standard and definitive treatment for this disease. FIGO denied the entire claim, arguing that weight loss existed "prior," completely ignoring the medical distinction between intentional diet-related weight loss and pathological weight loss caused by hyperthyroidism. These are not medically interchangeable, and the veterinary records clearly reflect that. This denial showed either a lack of medical understanding or a deliberate misrepresentation of facts. Because of this experience, I moved my cat to a different insurance provider, where her condition was handled appropriately. At the same time, I added five additional pets to other insurance coverage instead of continuing with FIGO. As for my dog, Loc, I insured him for two full years before he was diagnosed with a thyroid tumor. His condition progressed, required ongoing medical management, and his veterinarian prescribed medications as part of a documented treatment plan. FIGO once again denied all medication coverage, labeling them as "wellness supplements," despite the medical records clearly stating they were prescribed as therapeutic treatment, not optional wellness products. Across multiple pets and multiple serious medical conditions, the pattern is consistent: when claims involve real illness and meaningful cost, FIGO looks for semantic excuses to deny coverage rather than honoring treatment plans written by licensed veterinarians. This is not how insurance should function. Pet owners deserve transparency, medical literacy, and honest claim handling, not technical loopholes and silence.

Costco recommended Figo Pet Insurance. They don't pay for anything. What a scam I cancelled by policy.

Who is your new underwriter? Was told new underwriter would lower the prices? Now I hear the opposite

It seems you've changed underwriters two years in a row. Both years my premiums increased exponentially. I wonder what you mean by "...but with better rate stability for our clients" that is 100% untrue.

Well, this past August I was told that they were not renewing my coverage because they were basically going out of business, & referred me to their "partner" SPOT Pet Insurance (which costs 3x as much!). I have since learned that may not be the case, as a friend of mine is STILL making payments to BIVVY, which are being accepted. Anyway, when I made my last payment, I had already started shopping around, & within a few minutes of making that payment, I did sign with another company. I then emailed BIVVY for a refund, but never heard from anyone. Now they're are claiming that they have no such record of any email. We do not recommend this insurance company.
