CrossFit in a nutshell: approach as a strength and conditioning program built on constantly varied,…read moreif not randomized, functional and scalable movements executed at high intensity. My motto: "Being in shape requires one thing: hard work. And working hard requires no talent" About 4 weeks ago I attended my first class. I was feeling nervous. I had heard crossfit is a hardcore fitness challenge. I walked in with butterflies in my stomach not knowing what to expect. I was first greeted by Meg which runs the gym and who also is a certified crossfit trainer & a has a black belt in Kempo Karate. I still did not know what to expect, and was feeling intimidated by the "WOD" aka work out of the day. I had never done a overhead, power push, jerk before. (scared) Once the class was instructed what we had to do, I was guided by Meg on body mechanics and BAM!! I fell into the swing of it. From my first day experience, it has me coming back four times a week. Everybody is very friendly and welcoming. I remember someone telling me "we all been in your place before", and it only gets better =) Everyday is a new work out so never a dull moment. ***Shouts out to Meg, Alex, Jonathan, Vanessa, and Manolo they all have the drive to provide direction, supervision, encourage, dedication, and motivation enabling you to work safely at your full potential.

She and Sensei Robert had been god sent already before the pandemic. Since the pandemic they have become lifesavers to my 6-year old. They have a great outdoor set up for classes so they take place in person. There is also a zoom option. I owe the renewal in my child's COVID mental health and spirit to them (and I am not the only parent who feels that way). If you are looking for a martial arts place for your kiddo, you couldn't find better.

I was not very well versed in all things BJJ at the time so I will share my experience accordingly. First things first, I didn't understand the big differences between Gi and no-Gi BJJ. It is a critical question you need to ask yourself what you prefer before getting started. Before the move, the gym I practiced at was using Gi. Honestly, I think the Gi sucks! My hands would get hurt getting stuck in grips, extra rashes, and damage to my ears and face. Everyone was taped. It is just more brutal on the body IMO. As an 'old man' for this sport longevity was one of my deciding factors. That being said, THIS gym is no-Gi which I would recommend over Gi. The other part I will mention is about this gym itself. The support and comradery of the coach (which draws the quality of students) and the students are extraordinary. Coach is VERY hands-on, teaches most of the classes and even does roll with his students on occasion. Ending note...everything is clean, sanitary, and professional. No bullshit BJJ gym, get in here and give it a try (for yourself or kids)!

Now my son goes to Sensei Geoff and he's been with him since he turned 5 last year! He used to call it ninja school! He has learned so much and loves going to karate. Sensei Geoff has a lot of patience with my son, he's very talkative and asks tones of questions! (Sometimes his questions are nothing about karate) He has learned a lot. And even with the pandemic he continues with his karate. Speaking of the pandemic, Sensei Geoff goes above and beyond to keep the dojo and class sizes safe. He is constantly cleaning/sanitizing. He takes temps at the door. Everyone wears masks. And he cleans in between classes and does a big clean and sanitize at the end of the day. I feel safe having my son come to class. He also send updated emails constantly, keeps everyone informed with classes, events and just updating the community! This is a great place to bring your kids. They will love Sensei Geoff! He knows how to work with children well. Has the patience and most of all he pushes them to their full potential! We appreciate all you do Sensei Geoff!

We look forward to signing up our daughter when she is old enough :-)

We were invited to an "invite only" multi-gym rumble, where kids sparred in a no-points, no-pressure environment. All the kids from my dojang loved it. My boys also attended a sparring clinic with Coaches Arven and Kris, both world-class level athletes. The individual coaching was top-notch, and my kids thoroughly enjoyed training with them. The dojang is well-kept, and the mat is nicer than standard tournament mats. Parents can watch from the hallway through large windows. The facility includes a snack bar, and the bathrooms are clean. **Pro-tip:** Park in the parking lot near the dojang--it's a shorter walk and usually has more open spots. Overall, Sparta Taekwondo offers an excellent environment for both training and community. Highly recommend!

My son started Kung Fu at 9 YO and in 2 years he's gained discipline, focus, coordination, confidence, internal motivation, and great friends! Students progress at their own pace. Attendance days are flexible - with a monthly tuition, kids can attend any classes of their belt level (there are 5 every week). After a whole-class warm-up, kids break up into smaller groups and work on specific skills with the instructor and student assistants. The school holds optional tournaments and seminars, giving students an opportunity to set goals and train for specialized skills. Self-defense is emphasized and specific techniques are taught at each belt level, which build upon the previous ones. Anti-bullying measures, empathy, and conflict avoidance are also discussed. The instructors teach respect inside and outside of the school. I've been taking Kickboxing with Sihing Braydan and I absolutely LOVE it! Twice a week, a small group of adults work hard, push ourselves beyond what we ever thought we were capable of, and share lots of laughs too! It's a great way to end the day - exercising stress away, getting stronger, staying sharp, and feeling invigorated too. There are many fun events throughout the year, including the Lunar New Year celebration featuring our talented Lion Dance Team, who perform throughout the Bay Area. My son has had 2 birthday parties here, and they will tailor the event to your party theme, like Star Wars! I have also taken their Self-Defense course, which is open to the public and is extremely informative and empowering. I highly recommend it to all teens and adults. There are wonderful opportunities here from littles to seniors. Come try a class in Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Tai Chi, or Self-Defense, and gain mental & physical health, self-confidence, and a warm, supportive community.
