I was once a student my self years ago and both owners were encouraging and both were very helpful to me. The owners truly care about their students being successful in not just martial arts but in life and they help you to do the best that you can and they show you and guide you to your full potential. From day one, we were welcomed like we'd been part of the community for years. Gustavo, Gustavo Jr., and Samantha are incredible coaches -- knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about teaching proper technique. They have a way of breaking things down so anyone can understand, whether you're brand new or already have some experience. More importantly, they really care. They notice when you're improving, they push you when you need it, and they always make sure you're learning in a safe, supportive environment. The atmosphere here is exactly what we were looking for. It truly feels like a family. No egos, no intimidation -- just people of all ages and skill levels learning, growing, and having fun together. In the six months we've been here, I've watched my family's confidence, fitness, and overall mindset improve in a way I honestly didn't expect. We signed up our son in the Panda (evening) class. He attended 3 classes but unfortunately on the…read more4th class, he was hurt by the same kid THREE times and none of the instructors teaching the class paid attention or saw this. I had to call out to the instructor, who was supposed to be his mentor and was present, to tell her this kid was purposely hurting my child. In one of these incidents, he made my son bleed. The kid has been allowed to stay and Matt informed he he'd be talking to the parents and the kid. He said to him it didn't appear intentional from the videos. Yet this kid made my son bleed, hurt him and ONLY him THREE times. Unfortunately my child, who just turned four, has refused to go back. Perhaps one of the first introductory lessons should be with the child and parents about respect and safety towards fellow classmates with zero tolerance for this behavior. The only positive thing here is to say thank you to Mr. Cristian who tried his best to support our son in an attempt to help him get back to class. You are a great teacher, kind, and friendly. You, by far, showed more empathy to my son and genuine care. You will make a great sensei one day.

We decided to stick with the class and my son absolutely loves it. All the teachers in this class are very nice, works well with children, responsible, respectful, knowledgeable, and very fun. I figured this would be a great set of role models for my child as well. I pay $179 a month for my child. What I love is that they have about three different times available a day and you can come as you please. You do not have to commit to a set time, so you could really get your moneys worth for the price per month. We usually come on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays. This place is kept clean and conveniently located around many different restaurants, with plenty of parking. They even offer "parents night out" events where they offer fun, activity filled, child care. Even though we have not yet partaken in this opportunity, it's nice having the option and I hear the spots fill up fast. Along with martial arts, in every class they teach a lesson of the day on how to be a better person and make good decisions: Which I also find admirable. I definitely recommend MAX academy. It brings my son so much joy to be in the class. They recently had "mommy's day on the mat," it was a fun bonding time for my son and I and I hope there are more to come! Alex really has expanded my levels of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing. He has a great sense of humor and teaches many classes for martial artists. I am very thankful to for Alex always being there by my side throughout my life. He encourages focus and dedication to grow in karate, and sees the students for who they are and is able to meet each one individually as well as the group. He includes philosophy in his classes and has older students help to demonstrate more sophisticated katas and help the younger students as well. My daughter and son both joined and have learned much more than karate. They were challenged to work hard to earn their belts and stripes never given anything but earned it by practicing and taking feedback. They both are more confident with their self defense but also with handling confrontations, what to do in specific situations, and how to deal with difficult feelings and people. All of that in a fun welcoming setting. My son is learning new weapons and has partaked on the beach session. Sense Geoff has a fun teaching method to engage participation and creates an environment that brings enthusiasm and engagement in learning. He is always maintaining a safe environment for every student and also pushes them to challenge themselves to be their best. He has a great sense of humor making learning fun while he still maintains discipline over the group. He is building confident and respectful students that will benefit from his teachings for a long time. It wasn't until coming across Coach Gabe, Coach Ant, Coach Rey and Coach Mya at Rooted Legacy that made me feel comfortable taking on a new skill later in life. Both have decades of experience and still keep their skills sharp by competing. The gym has only been open a year and in that time there have been growing pains but they continue to learn and make the training challenging, educational and fun.

He often shares great stories from the early days of BJJ that really put the journey into perspective. I've been learning from him since October 2025 and his classes are consistently top-notch. He provides a very well-rounded curriculum, covering everything from stand-up takedowns to finishing details for the cross collar choke. What I appreciate most is how he simplifies complex positions - he'll show you a transition or a sweep gives that 'aha' moment because it's so efficient not just on the sweep itself, but also on possible attacks within the sweep. He's a professional, approachable instructor who makes even the most uncomfortable (knee on belly, osoto gari, etc) techniques easy to understand and apply.
