I had heard crossfit is a hardcore fitness challenge. I walked in with butterflies in my stomach not knowing what to expect. I was first greeted by Meg which runs the gym and who also is a certified crossfit trainer & a has a black belt in Kempo Karate. I still did not know what to expect, and was feeling intimidated by the "WOD" aka work out of the day. I had never done a overhead, power push, jerk before. Sensei Meg runs a wonderful martial arts program for children. She is a child whisperer and is also masterful with quirks and behaviors. She and Sensei Robert had been god sent already before the pandemic. Since the pandemic they have become lifesavers to my 6-year old. They have a great outdoor set up for classes so they take place in person. There is also a zoom option. I owe the renewal in my child's COVID mental health and spirit to them (and I am not the only parent who feels that way). My husband saw that CCF had a groupon, so I convinced him to get it since he wasn't totally committed to paying for a membership, but wanted to give it a shot. The first time I took him with me 6 months ago, he was in pain afterward and stated that he really didn't like it. This second go around, Meg helped coach him through lifts (which he loved) and then he got to partake in the burpee/box jump + 100m run amrap wod. I honestly expected him to moan and groan about how much he still hated it even though he gave CCF a second chance months later. Oh sure, he's feelin the pain. I bought a Groupon in January, went to one class, and then sent an email cancelling my membership so I did not get charged in the future. I have been charged every month since then, and after an innumerable amount of call and emails, my request is continually ignored. Luckily my credit card company has accepted every dispute, but now it looks like I have to go through the effort of getting an entirely new credit card number because of this one stupid recurring charge and the lack of respect from this organization. This has been a colossal waste of my time given I have spent countless hours trying to deal with this. Save yourself this disaster of an experience and go somewhere else. read more

my 4 year old loves this class!! I cant say enough good things about it. The teacher is super nice and teaches wonderfull lessons about being kind and respectful to one another in class, and I was very impressed when she addressed the children laughing at a child in class that had a small accident. She made it a teachable moment and reminded the children about why its not ok to laugh at others and how important feelings really are. As a therapist I BEYOND agree 100% and Im so glad my daughter is in the class to learn so much and have fun while doing it! We plan to keep her here while it holds her interest which Im sure it will for a long time to come. Been here twice now and no one would talk to me! Came by myself, tried to talk to the girl in the office, who looked at me, then left the office for the gym. I assumed she was going to find someone, but after 10 min she didnt come back. I went to the gym, and she was gone. I said hello, but no one bothered to walk over-i wasnt quiet. Came back with my family so my daughter could check out the martial arts. Same deal. I said hello to the girl in the office, her bf looked at me and rolled his eyes, but no response. After class we tried to talk to the sensei, but she was too busy talking with the cross fitters who had just finished working out to care that we were trying to get her attention, though again we waited for 10 min. Look, im a little too shy to make a big loud deal that im there, but I tried harder than I usually have to at businesses to get noticed! I was very skeptical at first. I heard all the hype about CrossFit and I thought it was just a fad. My husband encouraged me to give it a try with him because he had Tough Mudder he wanted to train for. We searched for CrossFit places around the area and decided to go with Concord Crossfit because we felt we would get the attention we needed to get back in shape. First day was brutal! We didn't know what to expect and it whooped our butt in a good way! We started off going 2 times a week and then gradually increased the number of days depending on how our body felt. It is very important to listen to your body when you first begin, ease into it. Focus on technique and youtube is your friend! The most simple movements combined with intensity creates very challenging but fun workout! Meg and the team of coaches work with you regardless of your age or physique. Every day is a different workout so you will never get bored. Great for families with kids too. They have a kid area and teach karate as well! The coaches provide modifications on movements that may be hard to perform at first (ie. pull ups, rope climbs), but help you build to the next stage so you can eventually do it on your own. We started 4 months ago and I couldn't lift myself off the ground on the rope climb. Today, I can climb to the top of the rope no problem! Concord CrossFit has turned me into an addicted woman who is extremely happy with her CrossFit journey so far. I'm eating well and is in the best shape of my life. Obsessed. I got the groupon for the 12 classes, and like Mike S.'s experience did some waiting without anyone asking if I needed help. But that was my fault because I was passive and nervous and didn't go up to anyone and ask. When I was helped the lady was super friendly. I belonged to another crossfit gym I LOVED but it got too expensive. I had high standards to say the least. I looove my 5:30 coach and the "usuals' that go at that time. She remembered me after only going twice and taking a two week "vacation" after (haha). She is always so energetic and encouraging. I love this gym. I went back and bought my hubby a pass and it he loved the challenge it offered v.s. sticking to his regular workout routine. read more

I participated in the 6 week challenge and Meg was a great coach and trainer. She provided all the necessary diet and exercise plans to achieve my goal! I especially liked the flexibility in class schedules, from 5 am thru 6:30pm. All staff are friendly and patient with those new to power lifting techniques. We received a Yelp voucher as a gift and enrolled our 3 and 4 year olds in the Tiny Tigers class. The kids LOVED it! Sensei Meg and Sensei Alex are both amazing with kids - super patient and they both seem to have a super-power of getting tiny ones to listen and stay engaged in a room full of distracting and fun things to kick and punch! They also spend time teaching life skills like fitness, focus, and self-discipline. I can't recommend this place enough. Just wish we could afford to enroll them for longer! read more

After a blank of several years from any sort of martial arts - or even organized exercise - I tried out the Adult Education introductory course for Wing Tsun at Bay Mountain Martial Arts. I was drawn in immediately by the great instructors and general atmosphere, and before the course ended had decided to take their regular course. The instructors are not only really good at Wing Tsun, but are also very good at explaining and teaching concepts. They also have great senior students who are very helpful to the less experienced students, which contributes to the very friendly atmosphere. After only a few months I was enjoying myself so much I changing from training once a week to 3-4 times! I've done a lot of martial arts in the past, but am certainly not a very "gung-ho" person, but Bay Mountain Martial Arts has really provided me with a great environment to learn and grow. read more

We wanted to find something that he would be excited about (we tried basketball and other sports in the past) and something that would help him with his social "issues". If you are looking for a great activity that encourages fun for your child, this is a facility you should bring them to! Kids nowadays are too busy playing video games, watching TV, and eating a lot of the wrong foods. So motivating them to channel their energy in a positive environment while instilling discipline, respect and functional movement will promote improvements in their overall health. My daughter LOVES it and can channel her high energy self in a class that keeps her active the entire time. It's also fun for her to see her friends in class, and she thinks of it as a playdate. Signed up through Groupon. I did not get to attend a single class before coronavirus closed the gym. I called to cancel membership so it would not auto-bill - no answer. I emailed - no response. I finally will be disputing charges thru the credit card company. It's really a shame they don't have the time to respond to the customers - I'd go as far as to say it's shady. My sons been going to BMMA for a while. There's other places in town and a few closer to home, but none like bay mountain. I go there because of the family atmosphere. They're fantastic with kids. I have been taking my Grandson to the Tiny Tiger's program since he was three. He is now almost 6 and after next week will be qualified to take his black belt test. I have seen great improvement in his self confidence, strength and balance. He has particularly benefitted from the weekly themes- like teamwork, balance and focus that are first discussed and then reinforced through games and drills. BMMA's flexibility in scheduling has been great for our busy schedules. You can attend any class on any day that works best for you, rather then be locked into a fixed routine. My son Curtis has been a student at your Bay Mountain Martial Arts for about 9 months. He was very excited when he first started (as most kids are) yet, his passion for Karate continues to grow. I was surprised how much your Academy has impacted Curtis. He has become more disciplined and focused in all aspects of his life. His personal confidence has grown and he is physically stronger and is more in-tune to his feelings and those around him. He is so eager to take his weekly private lesson because he has such a desire to learn and he wants to continue to promote himself to the next belt level. The group lessons teach all the kids how to work together and support each other. And your instructors are amazing. They are truly gifted in their work with the kids. They command the respect of the students and have high expectations but they never forget to have fun while they are learning. The instructors also teach the kids how the discipline of Martial Arts applies to their lives at school and at home. Curtis says that he will become a Black Belt and maybe even an instructor. Curtis has learned more than just the required moves for his level, he is excited about being the best Curtis can possible be. Meg Hamilton runs Concord Crossfit and she is amazing! I came 3 months pregnant and out of shape with my doc's permission. I had done Crossfit before at another gym and I loved it. The first thing I love about Crossfit is that EVERYTHING is modifiable. N0o matter what fitness level you are at every CF person I have met is excited that you are starting to move and they believe that you are on the road to becoming elite even if that is not your starting point. Meg has helped me modify the owrkouts so I can safely workout while I'm pregnant. I am more confident about my impending labor and can't wait to be in better shape than I've been in in a long time after my delivery. My husband and I were always intimidated by crossfit's reputation, but there was a groupon offer and so we tried. We figured if it's not for us atleast we didn't drop some major dough to just quit in the end. Both my husband and I were already in shape but CCF kicked our butt on the first day! We were hooked after that. After our groupon expired, we tried another box for a month but ended up going back to CCF. Their WOD's are hard, but that's what you expect from crossfit. The other more well- known box in the area had WOD's that left my husband and I saying "that's it?!". In CCF, you get your money's worth. The coaches are great. The box is not that big but they make it work...And it does. I love this box. I love their WOD's and love the coaches. read more

Awesome experience here!!!! I recently wanted to try something new and all my friends have said that crossfit has changed their lives. So I thought, why not!?? I was really intimadated with the whole concept and culture, but after some yelp research, I chose Concord Crossfit. I liked that it was a good mix of males AND FEMALES! Love that! Megan and the other trainers are super nice. And the people who work out there are very supportive and welcoming. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend a few classes before I moved to San Francisco. I wasn't able to finish my unlimited month starter plan. I contemplated commuting BACK to Concord after work from SF just to work out for the rest of the month, but it didn't seem feasible. I'm super sad that I didn't get the full month experience, but totally recommend this to anyone out there that's thinking about crossfit. This gym is totally the place to go. I'll have to continue my girly Bar/Dailey Method SF life until I find a comparable crossfit gym near my new pad. read more

Joining Concord CrossFit was by far one of the best decisions I ever made. Here are the 'why's': Family-like atmosphere. Amazing... superb...knowledgable coaches, who will kick your a*s and prove to you that you CAN DO MORE. And yeah... you will then ask for more!! Classes are small, which allows for a lot of personal attention, and yep when you start (like me) - you do need it. Tons of encouragement. No judgements. I can't say enough about the coaching stuff. Bri, Carolyn and Meg are incredible. They take the time to understand your body and make WODs fit you, your skill level and injuries (if you have anything going on). I could go on and on about the coaching.. There's an understanding of how the human body works - none of that fad BS quick-gimmick-fix weight loss/workout stuff. Trust me - this is IMPORTANT! Additionally... what will strike you when you attend your orientation or one of the first Elements sessions... is the healthy competitive spirit among folks that attend the classes. The skill levels vary - people like me who just started to people competing in the Games and basically video-game status. LOL :) The great thing is - they all push each other to succeed. At the end of the day... crossfit is one of those things where "you get out of it what you put into it." This place and these people make you want to give it everything you've got. I moved to the area from Los Angeles in October. I tried several crossfit gyms before FINALLY finding the one that fit what I had been accustomed to before. The workouts here are some of the best you will find, which goes along with the staff here. They are the BEST. Meg was very welcoming and answered all of my questions about the gym. I stayed and worked out the first day, and have been going ever since. Many people fear crossfit because of the intensity. I wanted to make this review the first month I started going here but I waited a whole year to really see how good this school is. They have a great program for kids and also an Escrima class. I have been taking the Wing Tsun class twice a week for a year. What I didn't know before going to this School is that not all Wing Tsun teaching is the same. The School's roots lead to Leung Ting who was directly taught by Ip Man, that in itself is very impressive. What sets this school apart is that it is very structured and they do not hold back any information, so students progress as long as they practice. The proof is in the Senior Students, they are all very good. The School has a very positive atmosphere and there are no Big Ego's to deal with! I would highly recommend this school to anyone interested in learning a no-nonsense, effective self-defense! read more

Don't do the Groupon! When we showed up for the free month they automatically sign you up for the unlimited package ($125/month) and if you decide not to continue you have to give them notice before they process the payment. Bad idea!! I emailed them twice through their "contact" section on their website and i also emailed them directly using the email provided on their website. I never heard back. I then tried calling and the line was dead or not working. The payment eventually still went through so I drove to the gym. I then found out that they knew the phone line wasn't working and the email on the website was incorrect and asked for proof of me canceling even though it was sent through their website. She finally provided the correct email and told me to send another email. I did and received a very direct unprofessional response, I then replied asking for my refund since I had sent two emails prior and still haven't received a reply! The workouts were great, the class times were hard for someone coming from SF (hence why I needed to cancel), however, very unprofessional!! read more

My son started taking karate at this dojo at age 8 and is still going there at 16,, because not only is the instruction top notch, the community is very supportive and has been a huge part of his life. I now take Cross-fit classes at the dojo and have been very happy with the results, as in I my legs are more toned than they ever have been. I went down in pants size which is a feat at my age! Love exercising with the other students, between the comradery and the encouragement of the instructors, I find it a more satisfying work out than my classes at a local gym. read more

I walked into Concord Crossfit almost 2 years ago looking for something new as I was turning 40 later that year and wanted to feel good and look good as I entered my 40's. I got so much more than I could have possibly asked for. I was fairly confident I could not do one exercise Meg asked me to do every time I worked out for the first 3-4 months but because she was confident I went for it. I quickly got addicted to what impossible thing I could do next. Run a 10 minute mile? Do pull ups? Jump on a bigger box? Do a real pushup? I just kept going back for more. I forgot I was there to lose weight and look good as all I could think about was trying another WOD. After a while I did a nutrition challenge...skeptical of Paleo and in general not happy I had to eat less and workout...I dropped weight easily and got stronger. 10 lbs dropped, then another 10 lbs....how low could I go. Here is the amazing part....I joined Crossfit Football, a strength training class just to try something new. Now I don't wonder how low I can go I wonder how strong I can get. Now I am working on strict pull ups, hand stand push ups....dare I put muscle up on my wish list. I thought not possible until a WOD last night that worked on the possibility! Meg is amazing and I wouldn't have survived without her. Now Manolo is working me like never before. Bri, Michelle, Vanessa, Alex and John are always there supporting me....I couldn't ask for more but you get it because the other Crossfitters are as amazing as the coaches!! Come to Concord Crossfit if you want to change your life and be in the best shape of your life!! Two year's in I am at my goal weight, sleep like a baby and have no injuries (ok, I have had a few stupid moves that caused myself a bruisecut but that had nothing to do with the workout ). I have been on and off into fitness for years and I get easily bored without a good way to track my progress. In comes Concord CrossFit. After purchasing a Groupon for my husband and I, we tried it. I was in love after the first class. Everyone here, both coaches and members are SO encouraging and friendly. They never push you further than they know you can go, but I promise you, you can go further than you think. They are constantly doing events and contests to incorporate the entire community. They are also great about modifying if you have an injury, as my husband does. It is also one of the most affordable boxes in the area. CrossFit IS expensive but they make it worth it.
