Highly recommend Essence BJJ to any families looking for a great martial arts program for their kids! Yes, Coach Cam can be tough, loud, and even abrasive--but he genuinely cares about his students and is fully committed to their growth, both on and off the mat. He's not there to coddle or play the role of a parent--he's there to teach jiu jitsu, and jiu jitsu isn't easy. It takes discipline, effort, and resilience--qualities he instills through a no-nonsense, high-expectation approach. His style might not be for everyone, but for kids who are willing to work, the results are undeniable. Our kids have grown more under his guidance than anywhere else--not just in skill, but in confidence, focus, and grit. Coach Cam pushes them to be better, holds them accountable, and teaches the art with true passion and expertise.

Will he teach your child discipline, self respect, a sense of purpose and honor? Yes. Coach Cameron loves his students unconditionally. I see the pride and satisfaction in his eyes as watches his students grow and push their limits. For them to achieve that, he pushes them hard, but he is always fair. He gives them his best and expects the same from his students. We consider Cameron to be a wonderful mentor for our son. He's a rare person and we are grateful to have him in our lives. If you are considering enrolling your child, come during a kid's class and talk to the parents and get their opinion. Most do not post reviews on yelp. From the first trial lesson, she was hooked and has been thriving ever since. She attends 5 days a week of her own volition, she competes (and wins!) in tournaments, and she has even been trained to teach the younger students as an assistant instructor. Kung Fu has brought her out of her shell, improved her confidence, and given her a sense of community outside of school that is priceless. I couldn't have asked for better role models for our daughter than Mr. Lee and his exceptional, dedicated team of instructors. We've seen our son develop focus, perseverance, and a stronger sense of responsibility over his time here, and those lessons carry over into other parts of his life. East West has also fostered a sense of community for our son. It's a space where he feels grounded and supported, where he knows what's expected of him and takes pride in working toward those goals.
