This gym is a great place exercising and self defense. Probably one of the best to my child.

Ask the Community - Kyokushin Wah Dojo

What is the age requirement please? Unable to locate that information on your webpage?

My boys started the white belt class when they were 6 and 8. There appears to be students as young as 4 in there. The adult classes are for teenagers and above. I recommend visiting and observing a class.

Do you guys ever do jujutsu, or just Kumite?

We mix in Akiki-Jujitsu, Judo, and Jujitsu in our training as well as our Kumite.

After years of…read moretrialing different sports and activities with no interest, we decided to give martial arts a try for our artistically inclined daughter 3 years ago, and we hit the jackpot with East West Kung Fu. From the first trial lesson, she was hooked and has been thriving ever since. She attends 5 days a week of her own volition, she competes (and wins!) in tournaments, and she has even been trained to teach the younger students as an assistant instructor. Kung Fu has brought her out of her shell, improved her confidence, and given her a sense of community outside of school that is priceless. I couldn't have asked for better role models for our daughter than Mr. Lee and his exceptional, dedicated team of instructors. Their mentorship has made a lasting impact on her, and we are deeply grateful for the positive example they set every day. Combined with the countless physical and mental benefits of studying this lifelong discipline that fosters respect, perseverance, and personal growth, it has been an incredible experience for our family, and we will forever be thankful for East West Kung Fu.

It's one of the few activities he's stuck with long-term, not only because of the personalized instruction, but because it's a place where he feels genuinely connected and motivated to grow. The instructors do a great job balancing discipline with encouragement. They set high expectations, but they also meet the kids where they are and help them build confidence step by step. We've seen our son develop focus, perseverance, and a stronger sense of responsibility over his time here, and those lessons carry over into other parts of his life. East West has also fostered a sense of community for our son. It's a space where he feels grounded and supported, where he knows what's expected of him and takes pride in working toward those goals. We're very grateful to have found this program, and we would absolutely recommend it to families looking for something that builds both physical skills and personal growth.

Yes, Coach Cam can be tough, loud, and even abrasive--but he genuinely cares about his students and is fully committed to their growth, both on and off the mat. He's not there to coddle or play the role of a parent--he's there to teach jiu jitsu, and jiu jitsu isn't easy. It takes discipline, effort, and resilience--qualities he instills through a no-nonsense, high-expectation approach. His style might not be for everyone, but for kids who are willing to work, the results are undeniable. Our kids have grown more under his guidance than anywhere else--not just in skill, but in confidence, focus, and grit. Coach Cam pushes them to be better, holds them accountable, and teaches the art with true passion and expertise.

Will he teach your child discipline, self respect, a sense of purpose and honor? Yes. Coach Cameron loves his students unconditionally. I see the pride and satisfaction in his eyes as watches his students grow and push their limits. For them to achieve that, he pushes them hard, but he is always fair. He gives them his best and expects the same from his students. We consider Cameron to be a wonderful mentor for our son. He's a rare person and we are grateful to have him in our lives. If you are considering enrolling your child, come during a kid's class and talk to the parents and get their opinion. Most do not post reviews on yelp. Before classes cars blast miscellaneous music driving into the parking lot (past the condos). During class the amplified sound is so wild that it sounds like a war zone in my condo. The whole place shakes. They turned down the music today when I called earlier to ask them to turn down the bass, so they put on amplified bag pipe music instead which is honestly predictable from people who patronize a place with "combat" in the name in suburban California. Fighting the quiet enjoyment of neighbors every day! When the class ends, they drive out with the same aplomb. The owner is really nice but the owner isn't here for every class to monitor every instructor and student raging off to their next class at 80db. I have lived next to numerous shopping centers and even Sports Basement, where they have classes all the time. This place is a special nightmare noise nuisance because the people seem to just be disrespectful and aggressive.

As a result, I had all but given up trying to reestablish a routine. My back has been an issue for decades and I thought that I'd tried everything - chiropractics, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, accupressure ... you name it. I'd resolved to just live with the nearly constant discomfort and occasional debilitating spasms. However, Gabriele has changed my perspective by focusing on carefully building core strength while not aggravating other issues. She listened carefully to my problems, asked about my desired outcomes and she designs each workout specifically for my physiology and my state of progress. I can't say enough good things about her adaptive approach and positive energy!

Being able to visualize my progress keeps me motivated and accountable, and it shows how much she genuinely cares about helping me succeed. Her approach is incredible. There's absolutely no pressure or intimidation just steady encouragement, positivity, and motivation. She knows exactly when to push me and when to adjust, which makes every session both productive and enjoyable. We have fun, we laugh, but we also work hard going from lifting heavy to even heavier weights that I never imagined I would be able to do. I feel stronger both physically and mentally. On top of that the studio is not crowded. It's truly one-on-one, and the focus is completely on you. The entire team at Studio Flex is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The environment feels supportive, comfortable, and uplifting, which makes showing up something I genuinely look forward to. I'm so grateful to be training here and would highly recommend Gabrielle and Studio Flex to anyone looking for a supportive, motivating, and results-driven experience.
