I had the Big H, which is one Italian sausage patty and one hamburger patty, in the same bun, with all the fixin's. Menu is a la carte so our small group shared fries, onion rings and batter fried portabello mushroom slices while we waited for our sandwiches. Everything was very tasty, the burgers were five bucks or less, and our server was pleasant (and apologetic regarding the incredibly drunk softball team we were sharing space with). Pretty good food, especially considering the price. I'd stop there again.

We found Katie's using Yelp. Had the highest ratings in the area, so we decided to give it a try. So glad that we did! Upon entering, it's a simple place. Just a few tables, but they obviously have a large take-out business as several people stopped by to grab something to go. I chose the Chicken Melt - Hot Sub with chicken, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheeses, and ranch. I chose mine on a garden veggie sub bun. Unbelievably good! The chicken was perfect. The cheese was gooey. And, the bread is incredible. My mom had the pizza sub on a spicy garlic sub bun. She was impressed by the freshness of the ingredients. We decided not to have ice cream on our way out. But, it was definitely tempting. If you are looking for a quick, delicious sandwich, stop by Katie's!

Old-School Wisconsin Supper Club Vibes at the Nimrod Inn…read more This is classic Wisconsin supper club--no hostess stand, no frills. Just belly up to the bar, and when the waitress notices you, she'll jot your name down in a well-worn notebook. No buzzers, no text alerts--just patience and a Brandy Old Fashioned with some true Northwoods flair while you wait (likely about an hour). They're only open Thursday through Sunday, but people travel from all over the state just to get a seat. The décor is straight out of the '70s--in the best, most nostalgic way. The dining room is separated by a doorway to keep the chatter down, creating that cozy, focused dinner atmosphere. We ordered the prime rib with a double-baked potato, and I swear it fed us for three days. Honestly, the two trips to the salad bar alone nearly did us in. But it's what's on the salad bar that truly sets the Nimrod Inn apart--the gizzards. Yes, gizzards. I know, just hearing the word might turn your stomach. But trust me--give these a try. The owner slow-cooks them for 10 hours, and if you didn't know better, you'd think they were beef tips. They melt in your mouth and are absolutely unforgettable. Not sure why it's called the Nimrod Inn--but don't be a nimrod. Make the trip and experience this supper club gem for yourself.
