When I arrived I went straight to my room and dropped off my luggage then roamed around the property. I felt extremely safe at that moment and for the rest of my stay. The property from the moment we turned onto the driveway was breath taking. I sat on the porch waiting for my friend to arrive. Upon her arrival she was also impressed and so happy we chose to stay here. The rooms were great. I was at Cobb Island. Roomy bathroom, air conditioner window unit, ceiling fan, large windows, comfortable bedding and a curtain to draw in front of the door for added privacy. My friend stayed in the Rogue Island suite. There was no air conditioner in the room but two fans available. The sun comes shining into that room heavily in the morning. Nice view of the water. Bathroom is a little small, but perfect for one. The room itself is perfect for one, maybe two if it's a short stay. My friends words on her stay: "The room was smaller, but comfortable and perfect if we weren't planning on spending too much time. It wasn't too small, just smaller -perfect for a single occupancy. The grounds were gorgeous and I appreciated the hands off approach. The company in the morning was lovely. I loved all of the different amenities and areas of the house we had access to to suit our needs. Breakfast in the morning was simple and perfect. The first morning was this amazing quiche.... Hoping to get that recipe to add to my cookbook, sliced strawberries and coffee. The second morning was a scrumptious banana bread, sliced strawberries and a simply seasoned fried egg. It was all delightful. You have access to the kitchen whenever you want. We brought lunch back and ate it outside. There is a fire pit out back you can use. Some notes: there are some fine tuning things that could be taken care of by a grounds keeper or anyone else. Trimming back the foliage going down to the dock, spraying for bees in the white covered "shed" near the water, clearing leaves from the pool, replacing burnt light bulbs and a major dusting inside and outside, especially outside on all the porches. Otherwise it was very clean. In the end we enjoyed our stay and look forward to stay again!! I'm easy to book again.

We were in town for a quick Work Project so only stayed for 1 night, but the location is great (walking distance to all of the Restaurants/Shops) and the Owners, Tammy and Jim, were both very nice and helpful! Was small, friendly, easy to just wander in shops and relaxing. Our breakfasts were very good. The room had a king size bed which we decided we needed one of those and came home and did go buy one! The decor was casual, comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend. Our room had a toilet and sink, the bathroom, and shower was down the hall. The Inn was spotless and delightful. I would love to go back. We only live across the bridge in Virginia Beach, but the get away was just excellent.

We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one. The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. Rented two nights, no customer service and we're constantly being harassed by staff. Old man next door had a room next to ours with a door on it. My wife did not feel safe, knowing the man could just open the door and walk in. The foreign Russian made harass my wife and I as we were trying to check out. I feel like they just pick on tourists.

I feel so strongly about sharing my recommendation to stay here that this is my first-ever (and possibly only) Yelp review. The rooms, property, restaurant quality food, and service were impeccable. Sherry, Ridge, and Sara are so kind and will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay, even communicating months in advance to see if we had any requests. The unlimited ice cream and snack bars, speakeasy and all-seasons room were our favorite amenities, but the list is plentiful. Our room had a private patio with firepit, heated bathroom floors, a soaking tub, and so much more. It was beyond clean and comfortable! The icing on the cake: they are pet-friendly, and even provided organic dog treats to our corgi. We came in March for my birthday (they gave me flowers, a note, and a gift) and are already planning a trip back in the summer to utilize the heated pool, kayaks, bikes, and other outdoor activities.
