I have stayed here a couple of times over the years and this was the worst experience I have had at any hotel. Typically I come off season to see my family. The posted rate was $120 then jumped to $150 when I booked. Okay, it was close to my family so whatever. The room was freezing and the heater couldn't keep up because the door has a gap all the way around it and cold air was pouring in. The only staff I saw was in the parking lot smoking and drinking beer. The walls are paper thin and It sounded like the guests next door were in my room between conversations and snoring. I got almost no sleep. Won't be back. A 30 minute drive to White Stone or Gloucester is preferable.

The building was quaint with each room tastefully decorated with cool and funny schoolhouse memoirs.  Well kept grounds included a pool, vegetable garden, vines and bicycles, with close proximity to local restaurants and shops.  We enjoyed the balcony for Schoolroom #4 every opportunity we had. The claw tub bath/shower provided a functional look into the past while the outdoor bath  provided a unique treat of showering under the stars. We ordered the wine and flowers package and were delightfully happy to see that the flowers were beautifully arranged in a vase in our room.  And the wine chilled upon arrival just begging to be enjoyed. Our gourmet breakfast was sparse but tasty with fresh squeezed OJ.  And dinner hosted by Chef Meseret was exquisite dining at its best.  She loves cooking and it's reflected in her dishes. .. every item was fresh and flavorful with the generous crab cake entree a show stopper.  It was all crab.. no fillers, just a bit of egg to hold it together. We had an enjoyable weekend and hope to explore the area more on another visit.

He hesitated, but then let me do so. I thanked him profusely for letting me use the restroom. I went on my way and got in my car 30 seconds later I was exhausted by this gentleman who proceeded to tell me how inconsiderate it was of us to come to an establishment in the park in front of a business. I however, did not know that we were parked in a space that was not appropriate to, but more than that. I was shake it. He knocked on my car door and proceeded to berate me for parking in front of a business establishment. He said he hoped that I would come back. I'm not really sure what he meant by that nor would I ever come back to a place where I was scared in uncomfortable. I can't really say anything about what he served or anything he did, but I will reiterate that it was so inappropriate of him to knocked on my car door. It scared me to the point where I thought about it any hours in the day.

They sometimes even have food vendors come to the parking lot. Had a great pizza truck which was awesome to bring pizza back to the room especially since the Italian restaurant shut down during COVID. They have a Farmer's Market, boat and golf cart parade, Oyster Festival, Halloween celebrations, great boutiques with fabulous clothing and unique gifts and wine shops and great prices on antiques to include an awesome flea market. Occasionally live music. Which is the best! They has been limited during COVID but hopefully will start up soon.

I feel so strongly about sharing my recommendation to stay here that this is my first-ever (and possibly only) Yelp review. The rooms, property, restaurant quality food, and service were impeccable. Sherry, Ridge, and Sara are so kind and will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay, even communicating months in advance to see if we had any requests. The unlimited ice cream and snack bars, speakeasy and all-seasons room were our favorite amenities, but the list is plentiful. Our room had a private patio with firepit, heated bathroom floors, a soaking tub, and so much more. It was beyond clean and comfortable! The icing on the cake: they are pet-friendly, and even provided organic dog treats to our corgi. We came in March for my birthday (they gave me flowers, a note, and a gift) and are already planning a trip back in the summer to utilize the heated pool, kayaks, bikes, and other outdoor activities. A must-see for a relaxing getaway or event, just a short drive to the charming town of Mathews. Thank you to our hosts for a fantastic weekend!

We were welcomed the moment we arrived, and that didn't change the whole time we were there. Our thanks to them for all the advice and help making our vacation a relaxing one. The room was, in short, gorgeous and spotless. No loaner beds for kids, but we just brought an inflatable one that was promptly ignored by our little one who preferred to join us in the comfy, king-sized bed. Can't say I blame her. The room had a full kitchen stocked with plates, pans, glasses, large mini-fridge, etc. We could see parked trains from the window, which made our daughter happy. the bathroom is big and also gorgeous (though as a practical matter a couple more hooks to hang up wet stuff would have been helpful). The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast of cereal, yogurt, and coffee, which was perfect for us. The bright breakfast area turns into a gathering space for the rest of the day, with games and a big section of wall set up for dry erase markers. If you want to go to the beach, they have beach chairs and towels you can borrow and outdoor showers if you want to avoid bringing sand into your room when you get back from the beach. If it's pouring rain, they have umbrellas you can borrow. (Did I mention the staff is awesome?) The beach is walking distance from the hotel, and we went there often. Lots of sand. Lots of beach, and plenty of room to set up and chill. The water is warm and shallow enough for a good distance out that it works well for kids. In town there's not a huge number of restaurants, so that kitchen came in handy. There is pretty a good ice cream shop though, and they do a baby cone for little ones. There's also a playground and park within walking distance of the hotel if you need a break from sandcastles and seashells. I'll also say that as a multiracial family we fit in around just fine. The 4th celebration was fun, with music, food, a fishing competition for kids, and fireworks. A crowd of people, but not overwhelming at all. Even though it was late enough we watched the fireworks from our hotel room (kind of awkward, but it worked), it was a lot of fun. So, both the town and hotel are recommended for a visit. Good times.

There was nothing left except yogurt that was just sitting out in a bowl. I made the front desk aware and the man that had been standing there went to let the staff know. No response. No replenishing. No communication. If you are going to charge over $300 a night, care about your customers. Having stayed at boutique hotels here and in the UK, the skimpy breakfast option provided was disappointing.....well, it was nonexistent. Cereal and fruit were empty. I don't expect a European spread, but a simple continental breakfast was, in fact, part of the reservation. We finally just left. Post-survey, nobody followed up. Customer service was so terrible (other than the people working the front desk). The front desk team was helpful and professional. So, clean room and front desk team was great, comfort and customer service were nonexistent. Not a good experience AT ALL.
