I can't believe the bad YELP reviews people have given…read more After 60 years, I today Just closed my Accounts at Michigan Legacy Credit Union (formerly Wyandotte Governmental Federal Credit Union). I worked with Amber McDermott today over the phone who was an absolute MARVELOUS joy to deal with and who took care of everything. I have ALWAYS found their customer and teller service to be great. FYI... I kept the account open all these years even after moving from Wyandotte in 1980 to California. I originally opened the account (and started my credit history) in 1965 when my Dad was a Wyandotte fireman and I was in high school (Mt Carmel, class of 1967). Never had a problem with WGFCU. My only regret in closing the account is that my FICO score will probably take a longevity hit. I wish everyone there the best in the future and a nice Spring as well.

The representatives are always friendly, courteous, and don't waste time. I remember when I first went, I saw how few stars they had and decided to check it out, and I couldn't believe how great it was! They even have two ATM machines to use outdoors and 2 or 3 drive-thru windows, two things a lot of bank branches don't always have more than one of. There's enough branches in the area that I can actually talk to a human if need be, and since it's part of the credit union co-op I'm never short on options for ATMs. I opened a checking and savings account. There's no minimum for checking, just $5 to open. You need a $200 minimum balance in savings but they give you a month to get to that level if you need, which I think is a nice thing since people might not bring that much cash with them the first day. I showed up early for my appointment and was seen immediately. Sara was kind and made light conversation while informing me about the other services offered and what to expect with my accounts. I will update if the app causes issues, but otherwise I'm very excited and happy with my banking choice.
