Out of the three in town (Charra, La Piñata and El Burrito Loco) this one is my favorite. The food quality is consistently good, and the wait staff always make you feel welcome. Pricing is decent, and food is affordable. Fun fact: if you shop at Kroger in town, keep your receipt! The back will have a few coupons for Charra that you can redeem at any time. This was my first week back in the office after the most relaxing vacation and with the beach and daquiri in mind I chose Charra as my stop to relax and get a daquiri. I was excited for the pitcher. Do not get the pitcher unless your plan is to be obliterated by the first sip. I couldn't take a drink without holding it in my mouth for ten seconds, contemplating spitting it out and wanting to swallow it so I could get drunk enough to drink it and not care about the 16$ purchase for a bottle of crappy tequila, basically. This is my 4th time being dissatisfied with Charra and I downloaded yelp to finally leave my review. Do not ever order on the phone with charra and expect to have delivery service available and do not expect to get what you ordered!!! The servers are definitely biased towards age and service at Charra and the fact that I am under 25 always implies I am a bad tipper, so why serve me? I was a server for 4 years and am now a manager for a corporation with enough money and a good attitude to deserve your attention and at least a refill of water to wash down the awful taste. One star for being the best of our pitiful Mexican restaurants in Oxford, one star for the food and aesthetics being always clean, and one star for giving me insight to go to get intoxicated after my next break up or failure. read more

I am more surprised when they get more order right rather than when they get it wrong (they have gotten it wrong the two times I've eaten here, I will not be eating here again). Food is flavorless and not what you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go to El Burrito Loco instead!!! Lettuce was literally brown and all of the veggies are rotting/wilted. I suggest avoiding anything that looks non-standard Tex-mex. The first night's tilapia quesadilla was great - broiled filets on a bed of spinach on a soft tortilla. The second night same thing (different diner) was tilapia + spinach hash in a folded over tortilla as though to hide it, I was embarrassed I had recommended it. Same meal I ordered salmon Miami- sounded good on the menu but I got a slab of tough microwaved salmon covered with onions and peppers like fajitas vegetables. Yikes! I was never a fan of this place until recently (El Burrito Loco for life!) but it's only a couple blocks from my apartment so I find myself here more often than not. Super cheap margaritas on Tuesday and Wednesday -- and their margaritas have gotten SO much better than they were one year ago. The food has also improved a ton and it's actually pretty on par with Burrito Loco now. This place gets very busy during the school year, so you might have a little wait during mid-week. read more

Fantastic spicy, cilantro, onion, garlic, jalapeño and tomato salsa. Servings are generous and yummy. This flavor really reminds me of Southern California Mexican cuisine. Wait staff is friendly and polite. I ordered a la carte-- a side of refried beans, rice, and a crispy beef taco. With the complimentary chips and salsa and a bottled Bohemia beer served in a frosty mug with a salted rim and a lime, I was beyond stuffed! I forgot to ask, but I wonder if they sell their salsa. If you are not a fan of spicy salsa, be sure to ask for a milder option. Next time we are in town, this will definitely be on the list to visit! read more

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Oxford. I eat here at least once a week because I always feel satisfied and the food is well-priced. My favorite is the grilled chicken nachos on the appetizer menu. The order is large and my boyfriend and I usually split it and still have leftovers. I am also a fan of the arroz con polo, and my boyfriend is always pleased when he orders a spicy cheese enchilada. The chips and salsa are delicious, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food is always quick. They also now have a rewards program that gives you $5 for every $50 you spend. read more

A greta place for good cheap Mexican food. I would say that really the food does not seem particularly authentic to me, but I have always enjoyed it. Lots of vegetarian options as well. I have to say that I normally don't leave reviews but after my lunch experience today I decided to express my thoughts. There was a hair in our queso sauce and my friend called the waiter over. They blamed us and said that all of their workers had short hair and it was our problem. They were very rude and could have expressed better customer service. I will never eat there again. I called to order food for pick up. It was really loud and I couldn't her the man on the phone and he couldn't hear me very well. I asked if he could call me back or go somewhere more quiet. The line went dead. I called and he hung up on me. I called again and then the phone was busy for about 10 min. I called again and the guy hung up on me again. I was very nice and polite the entire time and he was very rude. I was never able to order and going to blacklist this restaurant. I have have eaten inside and they are usually slow. Fiesta Charra is your average Mexican restaurant. Definitely not authentic. We used to come here a lot for their Margaritas, which are pretty good. The service was hit or miss depending on the day. After trying and learning that the other two Mexican restaurants in Oxford are exactly the same place, just different names, I was hoping to get something other than and a plate of unseasoned stir-fry covered in canned cheese sauce. My date and I both ordered chilaquiles. A traditional Mexican dish of fried tortillas topped with shredded chicken and tomatillo sauce. What I got was a plate covered in a mash of soggy tortilla chips, giant chunks of tomato and bell pepper and huge chunks of chicken, tossed in raw chili powder. The whole mash was also drizzled with white velveeta... This restaurant is dishonest to anything resembling Mexican cuisine. It is a rolling calamity of abortive culinary efforts. Terrible service. Rude employees. I have eaten here many times, but today was the last. My sons and I ordered fajitas, and my sons had to eat off the table because they brought no plates. Our server stood behind the counter talking and laughing with the other workers. Finally, after I realized that she wasn't coming back, I walked over and told her it was ridiculous that she did not bring us plates but had plenty of time to talk to her co-workers. For years, every time I come to Oxford, I go to the Fiesta Charro. Last time I was there we sat down and began and found a four inch hair in my salsa. I brought it to the girl up front, and told her this was not a good way to begin. She took the hair to the back and I had to finally wave some down to bring me another salsa (or at least I think it was another salsa) because in this there was a two inch hair. I gave it to my waiter and the girl from the front came back with a little attitude and said they had no one there with that type of hair and that was a hair hair from the jalapeno peppers in the salsa....I had no idea a jalapeno pepper had four inch hairs. No one offered to bring different salsa....no apology.....We were not asking for a discount....one of the members of our party said she felt like we were being accused...a very bad experience. read more

I have eaten here a few times through out my times as a student at Miami, and have always thought it was alright. It was never my favorite, but I did have fun getting margaritas there with my friends time to time. But now I WILL NEVER return here. Last Saturday (Valentine's Day) my boyfriend and I went here and we both got food poisoning from the chicken tacos-had to have been these since we both had them. Nothing says I love you like violently vomiting side-by-side, right? I still do not feel 100%, and if I don't feel great by the end of the week I will see a doctor and contact the restaurant, but I just thought I should let everyone know that they are careless and serve tainted food.
