Our first time taking the boat to Medina Lake and this is where we came to launch it. Hubby…read moreremembered coming here once maybe 40 years ago with his cousin to launch their boat. We had a sticker price shock... $15 Launch Fee $10 additional car parking We weren't going to shop around, we are here and we are going to get on the water NOW! Lol. Well, come to find out, there really isn't much of a choice on this lake so just come prepared. Plus there is a lock box for overnight or early launches. If you are going to be gone on the water for the weekend, the charge is per day. The boat ramp itself and dock are great. The older lady at the counter that helped us both before the launch and afterwards with our burger order was really nice and helpful. Huge indoor patio with huge fans plus a nice outdoor patio surrounded by tropical plants. I could see this being a great place to enjoy a band on Sat nights. Red's does not have gas (although sign says they do) but we were told the marina down the street does. We didn't need it right then but was checking for the future. We made a note to always pre-purchase gas... in Hondo, Castroville, or Lakehills coming from the other direction about 10 miles as there aren't any stations around in the country roads that we traveled on getting there. I would suggest getting their to Red's early as parking is limited. We were there on Sat 31 Mar about 2pm and it was already packed. I can't imagine what it's like in the summer time. I'm sure we'll be back again as soon as we have a free weekend. Happy Boating!

We went out there to go see the lake and a little restaurant that was near it and unfortunately…read moreafter a 30 minute drive, it was closed. It was well worth a little scenic drive and the knowledge of the whereabouts. We will definitely be eating out there soon as they are open again. We are not exactly sure why they are closed because of the lake being low maybe? However it looked beautiful out there and even though the roads were windy and narrow, it was great! 7-30-22

So good, we stayed longer and had another. The staff is extremely friendly. We love going to places with character and history. It really helps take ya back. We will definitely become regulars.

In Castroville, one of the places I visit most has to be Magnolia Filling Station, the only true…read morecoffee shop in town. It's small, always busy, and always slinging quality coffee. The shop is made from an old gas station that was converted into a cafe. They serve pastries along with a wide range of coffee beverages. I always find myself drawn to their seasonal drinks, which are usually themed around something fun. This year's holiday menu was Ice Age themed, but I remember last year being Shrek themed, and I think there was even a Top Gun themed menu at some point over the summer. For the Ice Age menu, I got a Manny which was a Chocolate Orange Mocha drink. I got it hot and it was great! The space inside is quiet, nice, and well lit. It's a great place to get work done. In the past, I've noticed the wifi could be tragically slow, which made some tasks difficult. During my most recent visit, though, I don't recall the wifi being slow at all, so it seems like that issue has been fixed. There is also plenty of outdoor seating if you get lucky with one of the three nice weather days in San Antonio. I really like the coffee here. For such a small shop, they do a great job, and it has become an essential stop for me every time I am in Castroville. RIYL: Coffee shops that are old gas stations but do not have a functional gas pumps anymore, so you don't accidentally get gasoline instead of a latte. I hate when that happens!!

We were greeted by the same friendly employee when I visited the prior week, and she gave us each a stamp punch card - after so many you get a freebie coffee. FYI they also serve smoothies, not posted yet, and they can make them dairy free! My friend and I shared a Rueben sandwich and chicken salad croissant. Great flavors, but for me the Rueben shined! Lots of flavor. $1 more. My decaf latte with oat milk ($2 extra) and sugar free Belgian cookie syrup was nice. The price for the oat milk was steep, I don't think I've ever paid that much extra. I may skip it next time and go for the caffeine free teas. I ordered a hippie bar and honey glazed pecans to go. I really enjoyed the hippie bar- peanut butter, gluten free oats, chia, seeds, and dried cranberries. Lots of seating inside. There's a conference room- free of charge for ministry meetings and a mic area up front. The owner stopped by our table and greeted us, I just love supporting this local fam owned business. Oh and when we visited the women's restroom... I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful sky ceiling and bird sounds. So soothing and relaxing... I felt like I was transported to a gorgeous serene garden. Big smile on my face!

Loved the country music playing in the dinner! I'll definitely shoot by again! Service was fast and…read morefriendly.
