I went at 1:00 and had great difficulty finding the actual shop, even with GPS, because it was in an obtuse location ( even when location had been discussed by phone). I drove a half hour to get there. There was a sign on the door "closed until 3:00". Even if there was some emergency in the 3 hours since I spoke with the owner on the phone, why was there no coverage to handle customers? This is an example of poor business sense......which ensures poor quality of work done. Go somewhere else!

I went here after reading Yelp! reviews--and it's a 5+ mile drive for me. Went back for my 3rd weekend in a row today-- to drop off a 5th pair of boots for new heels and some have also needed soles and taps. A bunch of my stuff arrived after being in storage/on truck cross-country and heel bottoms and/ or soles fell off 1st time I wore them! Yep, I was told--cold on truck--change in temp will do that. Who knew? Owner has an industrial leather sewing machine that's probably 60 yrs old--my age! Prices are fair, shoes are ready when promised, I like the work and shine and I like the TINY standing-room-only, one-room-in front-of-small house shop. Like the owner and the customers standing cheek-by-Joel with me...and I love the "old-school" r&b playing. This,my friends, is the Real Deal. P.S. when I was there tiday, the woman after me had brought a lovely butter-soft 3/4 length black lambskin leather coat --they were going to shine it up for her--not sure if she was requesting other repairs but both she and I were pleased to hear he could do the work! Getting hard to find/afford good-quality leather boots now--so I find them used--well worth additional $35 to have them resoled/heeled and spruced-up by these gentlemen.

I was bummed, and also mystified... could (would) a cobbler handle handbag repair? And they do! Or at least Gayford (sp?) does. I was directed here by signage on closed-for-renovations Main Street Shoe Repair. And I'm glad I sought it out. The owner is the friendliest around, and his workspace -- in the front rooms of a cozy house -- is packed to the gills with antiquery cobbling wonderment. Rather than have me make two trips, he encouraged me to take a seat as he proceeded to repair my bag handle on-the-spot, chatting with me all the while. It took about five minutes, and cost me five dollars. The loop is a little warped where it connects; but otherwise, it's good as new (or as good as it was before it busted!). I told him I might bring some shoes by, but that I'm embarrassed by their condition, since I beat my shoes up pretty badly. Gayford looked at me and said: "When you go to the hospital, you don't apologize about your condition, do you? It's the surgeon's job to fix you up. And it's my job to fix your shoes." I fell in love then and there.

After more than 10 years of using Advance Tailors in Brier Creek, I have finally reached the point…read morewhere I will be taking my business elsewhere. Over the years, I have brought them multiple suits annually because I like my suits tailored to fit a certain way. My work requires me to wear suits regularly, so tailoring is not occasional for me; it is a necessity. Unfortunately, recent experiences have made it difficult to continue supporting this business. My biggest concerns are inconsistent pricing, overpricing, and poor communication. On one visit, a hem may cost one price, and the next time the price is different. Recently, I brought in three suits, one of which needed to be rushed. I was charged $40 for the rush service, which I paid because I needed the suit quickly. The following month, however, the price had doubled. I also often wear three-piece suits and like to have a pocket added to the vest. This time, I was quoted $50 to add one pocket using leftover fabric from the pants. I pointed out that just a few months earlier, the same alteration had cost $35, which I gladly paid. This time, I declined. The last straw came when I was told that two of my suits would be ready on May 2. When I arrived, the pants were not ready. I was told the pins had fallen off and that I needed to try them on again to be measured. In a very casual and dismissive manner, I was told to wait 15 minutes and the pants would be ready. I waited. As I was leaving, the gentleman attempted to give me $5 for the inconvenience--after I had spent $395 to have three suits altered. After more than a decade as a loyal customer, that was disappointing. They have seen me for the last time. I will be looking for another professional tailor--preferably one with clearly posted prices and more consistent customer service. I am not sure what has changed at Advance Tailors, but it feels as though their success may have gone to their heads. Think twice before using them. They have not only mastered the art of tailoring, also the art of bait and switch. I After 10 years, I will not be returning.

Their pricing is inconsistent and seems to change depending on who you are or how they're feeling that day. As well as items not being seamed together and matched properly. I'm always asked to stay and wait and sit longer or to come back later that day or another day and they still don't provide a discount despite their errors. Most recently, I brought in four small blankets to be stitched together. Each blanket only cost me about $5. At the time of drop-off, they told me they were too busy to give a quote, so I specifically asked them to call me with the price before starting work. I never received a call, voicemail, or any form of communication. When I returned, I was shocked to be told the total was $74--more than three times what I paid for all the materials combined. When I questioned it, the owner lied & insisted he had called me, which simply isn't true. Then instead of addressing the issue professionally, he became dismissive, telling me it was "in the past" and brushing off my concerns. Any time I tried to explain how inappropriate and frustrating the situation was, he acted like he didn't understand me like he didn't understand English, which made the interaction even more upsetting. I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. There are plenty of tailors who are more transparent, professional, and respectful of their customers. Would give 0 stars if possible!
