This week a local company out of St Augustine Florida, Fidus Roofing, just completed our roof replacement. The product we chose to go with was a stone-coated metal roofing product by Unified Steel/Westlake in the Pine-crest Shake style and Timberwood color. Ryan Dickey was our initial contact with the company, who provided us product information and the price quotes. Fidus Roofing was competitive and knowlegable compaired to the out of town roofing contractors. Fidus Roofing offered to bring our 5,100 SF roof decking up to Code and to provide a wind mitigation report after completion of the project. We were glad to go with a local company and there was no high pressure sales tactics with Ryan to sign a Contract. Ryan was very professional and he provided multiple quotes for different products. We chose to go with the stone-coated Timberwood shake metal roofing product to avoid having to replace shingles in another 15 to 18 years and because it carries a 50 year transferable warranty. This metal roofing system is complex, looks great, and looks better than any shingle out there. Nate Morton, our Project Manager, has a wealth of roofing experience/knowledge managed the field operations. Nate was very easy to work with and kept us up to date on the daily activities. The field workers were courteous, professional, and hard workers. In the office, Bonnie took care of our HOA approval and the permitting through SJC. Bonnie also kept us informed on material deliveries and the construction start date. The entire process was easy with Fidus Roofing Company. We have no doubts that we would use Fidus Roofing again. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Sales guy sold us the dream and quote was reasonable for a mid-size home in Mandarin. Once work began it was glaringly obvious the day-laborers had no idea what they were doing. After several massive mistakes with using the wrong materials, making horrible cuts, and leaving trash all over our property--the different levels of management began speaking ill of one another and pointing fingers. We didn't pass inspection and went well into hurricane season still needing repairs. We still have dips and bumps in our roof with awful woodwork And craftsmanship. So I decided to give fidus another chance after my request had slipped though the cracks.. During the hurricane, we ended up with water damage to our ceiling, and I called fidus first thing in the morning. I was told a crew member could come out and give me an estimate and would be in world golf village, gave my address and info and was told he'd be there around 4pm. It is now 6:40, I've been sitting here for 2.5 hours waiting... The answering service can't reach anyone and told me I should consider it that no one is coming. I know I'm not the only customer in the world here but don't schedule appointments with people if you can't make good on them and at the very least call them and cancel them.... unreal. FIDUS inspected my roof and determined that it is on its last leg, stating that most shingles have been destroyed during this year's 2 wind storms and a hail storm. I signed a roofing contract with FIDUS. Both insurance inspector and FIDUS agreed to meet during insurance adjustor examination. Insurance showed up on time, FIDUS was 30 minutes late (no explanation). Adjustor waited for FIDUS and asked him to show damaged shingles. Fidus was unable to point to a single damaged shingle, but was good in using the F-word towards adjuster. After a few minutes FIDUS stormed off never to say a word to me or the insurance adjuster. My dealing with Matt Brain, sales manager, was excellent, in that he was very helpful getting me scheduled and explaining everything that was involved. When it was time to replace my roof I did my research in hopes that this roof would live longer than me....I'm 60 and feeling find, so I calculated I needed a roof with a 50 year warranty. Turns out that GAF does offer an affordable asphalt shingle with a 50 year warranty and IF installed by what they call a "GAF Master Elite Dealer" the first 25 years is NOT prorated AND covers labor and materials. So in search of a roofer I went. There are something like 600 licensed roofers in Jacksonville, Florida. Less than 10 are "Master Elite". GAF also has a higher designation called "Presidents Circle". Seems that's a Master Elite with a boat load of experience. Only two of those. One of those also served on the GAF Roofing Shingle Advisory Board. Best of the best. Fidus was great to work with. In addition to replacing the roof had them replace siding, rear steps to a 2nd floor screened porch and do some screen work as well. I am a very happy homeowner with a very happy wife. In 50 years I will use Fidus again!! read more

Replaced our roof with top of the line GAF products, strengthened roof to withstand severe wind, excellent copper accents (small roof over bay window, valleys, chimney topper. Very clean and organized, one worker continually cleaned ground around home including with a large magnet. Finished on time. Price was competitive. Repeatedly re contacts us to assure all is OK (it is!). Very handsome roof, others have commented about it. Because of the good result, several neighbors have also used The Fidus Group. I gave them two Roof contracts at the same time and it was the worst mistake of my life. The crews were young inexperienced and none of them spoke English. Landon was always busy shopping for supplies and was never on the job. The Duval county inspectors made them rip off the roof it was so bad. My other house leaks horribly still. They refused to fix it. The Sales representation was good and I Believed they would do a good job and so I decided to pay more even though I had cheaper estimates. It will take $4200 to complete the work that they did not do. Two of their employees broke into my home and cause damage and they refused to pay for it. PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION BEFORE CONTRACTING WITH THE FIDUS GROUP. James F. Suplee's company, The Fidus Group LLC, conducted unpermitted work while contracted to build outdoor living space (to include paver patio, gas fireplace, shower, cedar pergola, screen enclosure, and 2'-high stone wall). Additionally, this project took 308 days from the time we signed a contract to final payment. Consistently over the duration of this project, we had to personally bring to Fidus' attention the need to correct several items - sometimes repeatedly - to include, but not limited to: - Electrical outlets incorrectly placed - PEX plumbing for water improperly installed (not shielded from sunlight) - Stone shower walls were neither plumb nor square - Paver patio was not sloped for water to drain properly - All permits were not pulled (resulting in St Johns County issuing a STOP WORK ORDER) - Final invoicing was incorrect (i.e. $2,350 too high) Furthermore: - Schematics were never created, which seem to have contributed to inefficiencies in constructing plumbing, electrical, the rear wall, the screen enclosure, and drainage systems - Time standards were not part of the contract (a huge oversight, as this project never should have taken nearly 10 months to complete) - Integrity repeatedly was not displayed by Fidus management... apologies were consistently offered, but they were frequently accompanied by commitments to remedy problems that were not resolved as promised; this behavior represents wholly unsatisfactory business practices in my estimation Ultimately, the finished project looks good and the overall quality appears satisfactory. However, the inconvenience and exceptional effort required by my wife and me to oversee this project, combined with the ludicrously extended timeline, and missed opportunities to rectify errors as promised, cause me to warn anyone considering Fidus to: PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION. read more

After getting an initial inspection by David Lau, it was determined that I had hail damage to my roof that would be covered by my insurance. After signing the contract, David was not very responsive to my request for information and when I did speak with him, he either didn't have the information or made up answers that later were found to be misleading at best. That said, I ended up speaking with the owner, James Suplee, who was very helpful. He understood my concerns and assigned manager, Craig Chaney and Matt Brain, to handle my contract. Matt is assigned to the beaches and although he's a nice guy, he wasn't responsive. Conversely, his boss Craig Chaney was very responsive and helpful in getting my roof scope of work documented, identifying work that was missing on the original adjuster document, amending the contract and insurance claim several times, working with my insurance company to justify amended work and scheduled the roof replacement that accommodated my schedule. Walter Smith, Project Manager, for the roof demolition and installation was top notch! He stayed on site for most of the project, addressed supply shortages, discussed progress/concerns with me daily and completed the work ahead of schedule. I hired an independent, licensed home inspector to assess my roof prior to work and upon completion. My inspector had some suggestions of work additions that were added to the scope of the work by FIDUS and covered by my insurance. He verified that the roof was complete per plan and installed properly. He gave the job high marks with no issues. I would have given a 5 star rating if it wasn't for a couple of FIDUS staff that weren't helpful as previously mentioned. I recommend FIDUS for roof projects and I highly recommend that you make sure to request Craig Chaney and Walter Smith to handle your project. read more

The remainder of the work and documentation required constant calling on my part. Considering an April start date, I gave up in late September trying to get the balance of the work done. Following my damages from Hurricane Mathew I immediately called Fidus, whom I had used before and had been completely satisfied with. I was shocked at the verbal quote I was given and decided to pull the permit and do the work myself. Buying materials and hiring help, I did the job for 25% of their quote. As a business owner myself I fully appreciate that they need to profit from the jobs they contract but - here's my complaint - their quote over estimated the size of the job by 30%. I was told it was 13 square but it turned out to be less than 10. Whether it was an error or an attempt to take advantage of hurricane victims, I honestly don't know but I will never contact or refer them again. read more

James and his crews were great on our project (especially Kevin, super nice). Before beginning work, we met several times with James and his project manager to hash out ideas and come up with an overall plan. Once we had that, everything went very well, and pretty quickly! We had our roof replaced, a bunch of siding replaced, several windows re-framed, new stairs built to our second story deck, a pump house built, screen replaced around the porch, and a bunch of small things around the eaves, roofline, and chimney repaired. Oh, plus a new exhaust fan installed in our second story bath (since the roof was being replaced), along with some interior drywall work. Since we had several dis-similar parts to our project, they had different crews that did each part. Everyone on each crew was nice and professional, and took care of our changes as unexpected things came up. They even updated our wind mitigation documentation when they were done with our new roof - we gave that to our insurance company for some great savings! Horrible experience, Jacksonville, Florida homes. I made the mistake of giving them two roofs to complete (my home and a rental) in Mandarin. Two crews, non speaking English and when I tried to point out they were covering up holes, they either could not understand or pretended they could not understand. Landen is very nice, but he is a supervisor so overworked that he was never on the job to correct the mistakes and there was only one project manager/supervisor for the two homes. They made $22,000 on the two jobs because they made false promises - I should have went to the other contractor that was $4,000 cheaper. Fidus failed inspection and the inspector made them rip off the roof and start over! But that wasn't the end. The problems kept on and on and on. I would have been happy if they had come back and just made it right, but here I am, job started Feb 20/2017 and it is March 7/2017 and my home roof leaks, and the other does not have gutters/downspouts installed and no one cares about me, and no one has come by to fix the problem. They job was done so sloppy they dumped debris and nails into my Trane XL20 condensor, and also did the same at my 2nd house. I believed Kevin's presentation - it was most professional - and I paid more for these roofs than any other estimate that I received because I thought Fidus meant "quality" - it is a lie. They don't even use their own employees and they said that they did, the trucks were from Illinois and I was told they are a travel crew - they did not even know how far to space the nails! I caught one crew covering over a huge hole in the front valley - do I have to watch them every minute of the day? I wonder how many holes they covered up because they just did not care. I hope everyone that reads the reviews knows that there are companies that post false reviews - fake reviews by fake people and they charge for the. I would question the reviews of these people, and also look at the dates -they have not had any recent posts. I do not recommend. They are overpriced, and there is no reason to pay more when you get such heartache and problems on a job. Do not do it! read more

They are in five lawsuits in Saint Johns, they will do a sloppy horrific job with people that they subcontract to, or worse, break into your home and that is what happened to me. They did a horrific job on my roof, and then did not fix pre-existing leaks. They sued me in foreclosure, and never gave me any notice, filed after the 90 days, and lied on their discovery documents. I can't wait to get them into court to show their fraud. Do not use the Fidus Group or Fidus Roofing and Construction without first looking at the Saint Johns Court docket, and the Duval County court docket, they have ripped off so many people, and slap on illegal foreclosure actions just for the fun of it. They present a very impressive "notebook" that shows all their jobs, references, and insurance, but none of the workers on my job spoke English, they shingled over huge holes, they left my house leaking, and they deny they promised to stop the roof leaking! Who would spend over $12,000 for a small roof unless the contractor promised to fix it? Why would a contractor fix a roof, and then leave a huge gaping hole in the chimney and on the soffits and eaves? Is this the kind of contractor you want???? Please do your homework so you do not have to go through hell. read more
