Needed 10th wedding anniversary flowers for a best friend in Maine and had no clue where to look. It's been nearly 30 years since I lived in Portland and all my favorite small business flower shops that I remembered were long gone. And those that remained still seemed stuck in 1980's funereal-style arrangements... lots of mums or stargazers and filler. But Yelp helped me narrow down a few possibilities. And I was super delighted to find Fiddlehead Florals! Fiddlehead Florals checked off all my boxes... gorgeous & modern design with beautiful, sustainably-sourced and seasonal/local flower selections; excellent and easy customer service over the phone where the designer (I think owner?) listened to what I hoped to have delivered and helped me arrive at my final decision; and they worked all of this within my targeted budget without trying to just upsell me at their sales target. I found their prices very reasonable for the service, delivery, and of course their selection of beautiful flowers. Since this is a 10th Anniversary, I wanted something dramatic, colorful, and seasonal. I called with almost 2 weeks lead time, and my requested delivery to outside the Portland area was no problem. The florist who took my call was cheerful, gracious, and incredibly helpful in my decision making. We decided upon a designers choice featuring a strong peony base as these were now apparently in season (plus I knew the couple loved them). Where they are located is a really cute area, their website story is Intresting and the name of the florist super cute, but I am 2000 miles away and I wanted a delivery sent to my Aunt who is in the local memory care, as my Uncle just passed. The gal on the phone said she'd check to see if she could get a white Orchid, as she did not have one in the shop. I didn't hear back from the clerk but my Aunt did call and said she received the orchid. I don't know what it looked like as my Aunt is elderly and doesn't snap shot from her phone. I guess it was nice, I hope so. It would have been nice to receive a photo from the shop itself, since I am so far away. read more

I received on Mother's Day a bouquet of flowers from Fiddleheads. The bouquet looked lovely but I noticed the roses were already turning brittle. We got a few quotes before choosing our florist for our October wedding - Fiddlehead was affordable and after speaking with Lauren, I felt that she really understood what I envisioned. But I was wrong, the final product surpassed anything I had envisioned. Our flowers were stunning and unique, they really highlighted the organic feel we wanted. Lauren was my wedding florist and I enjoyed every minute of working with her to plan the day and the flower selection. Lauren was genuine and thorough, and was so quick to respond to my (many) questions. I am not very well informed about flowers, but Lauren could put together my random requests into a cohesive idea with ease. When the wedding day came, I was beyond thrilled with the look of all of the flower arrangements. The bridesmaids' bouquets were a gorgeous mix of the yellows and blues I requested, and Lauren went out of her way to find the perfect gingham wrap to match my mom's bridesmaids' dresses (her wedding was 38 years ago!) Lauren arrived to set up the flowers early, and lent her knowledgeable expertise to the entire setup process. She provided flowers for the cake, the MOBs, all the tables, and at the ceremony. They were all unique but went together beautifully. I received countless compliments on the artful arrangements from guests. We started planning a wedding that was rather spontaneous and all we wanted was a bouquet for my fiancée, that's it. These people seemed like they were excited about helping, and they had my girl fill out a long winded questionnaire and then three weeks later told us that they would not help us out because they are too busy even though they knew our date. If they wish to dispute this rating I have the conversation recorded and the email thread from when we called to try and clarify the situation. We were treated like hot garbage and I don't appreciate it. Harmons on congress street in Portland were more than happy to help and made my soon to be bride feel special. I recently had remembrance flowers delivered to a friend in Portland. I live in Boston and am not familiar with the area but somehow came across Fiddlehead Flowers. The flowers were delivered on time and I received a nice call from the man delivering them to let me know where they had been left. The flowers were absolutely beautiful-even more so than the picture online. The vase was completely full and the greenery was so unique. I don't remember it showing yellow roses online, but yellow happened to be her mother's favorite color and she was very touched by it. We were completely blown away when Lauren arrived the day before our wedding with all of the gorgeous centerpieces she had put together as well as the gorgeous bouquets. In addition, from day one up until our big day, she was always available and quick to answer my numerous emails and questions. The flowers came out amazingly well. She put together a couple of floral arrangements that she had never done before - including my large bouquet and a greens table runner - and they were absolutely stunning. Lauren made the most amazing bouquets for my daughter's wedding last weekend. They were exactly what my daughter (who lives in DC and therefore had never met her) had envisioned. So very original and simple, with hues of white, blue and purple, wrapped in hosta leaves with sprigs of mint and ivy from my bouquet of 35 years ago, entwined. Not only were the bouquets gorgeous, but also very reasonable. Lauren was extremely responsive to all contacts, something we rarely found in many wedding vendors. Trust Fiddleheads for flowers. For our wedding, Lauren crafted a fabulous '50's style cascading bouquet with sweet peas and roses and ivy and lilies with little pearls. It smelled wonderful! It looked amazing and romantic with my 1952 Priscilla of Boston wedding gown! The cascade shape of the bouquet and the lilies with little pearls echoed the bouquet carried by my dress's 1st wearer, my groom's great aunt, who is a sweet lady now in her 80s who was so enchanted with the flowers and our wedding. The bouquet Lauren and her colleague made did not overwhelm my petite frame, either. Also, the altar pices (tall vases of sweet peas), men's buots, mothers' and aunt's corsages, and attendants' bouquets (in 3 sizes, 2 large for adult bridesmaids, 3 medium for juniors, and 4 little ones for the flower girls) were sweet perfection. The 22 low centerpieces were gorgeous, too. She gave me good advice to keep them low since we had tall taper candles on the table. I am no artist. I had no idea how make flowers look good let alone spectacular. All I knew was what colors I wanted, a picture of me in my dress, a picture of my groom's great aunt's 1952 bouquet, and my favorite flower, the sweet pea. Lauren provided the personal flowers and reception flowers for our recent wedding. I was thrilled with her work and absolutely loved what she put together for us. I gave Lauren a general idea what the look I was going for (organic/garden feel with as many local flowers as possible). Other than that, I let Lauren use her creativity, and I'm so glad I did! When she delivered our bouquets, she mentioned that some of the blooms from my bouquet came straight from her personal garden, adding, "it doesn't get more local than that." Last minute, I asked Lauren to create a partial floral crown for me and provided her with a picture. She nailed the design and the crown allowed me to forgo a traditional veil while still allowing me to feel like a bride. I knew I wanted to use a small, local florist for our wedding and overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Prior to our wedding, I was able to post an offer on my local freecycle.org site and I got multiple offerers from local people offering to come pick up our flowers at the end of the night and bring them to a local nursing home the next day. I was thrilled that Lauren's arrangements got a second life after creating such a lovely look at our wedding (admittedly, I couldn't let my personal bouquet go at the end of the night and took it home with me- it is still putting a smile on my face a week later). read more
