I live in Hawaii so in the summer time there is a six hour difference between here and the east coast. I called after 7am here which would be after 1pm in Maine. So I was surprised when I place my order of a flower arrangement that she could guarantee delivery the same day. I was delighted. She said they take orders for delivery until 3pm. I'm not sure that there are many florists here on Oahu that would guarantee same day delivery if I called in the afternoon. Like any other horrible significant other, I thought I had an entire birthday planned out... I forgot the flower bouquet. Literally, the night before at 2 am. I purchased flowers through their website with a few comments. Likes to see green fillers, a touch of gold, white flowers ( roses, peonies, etc...) Horrible photo with my review, it does not do it justice, she loved them. People do say Harmons and Barton's flowers are expensive when you can buy a bouquet for $15 at a retail store... but the quality of the flowers, the arrangement, the assortment, and the eye for a unique piece is what you're paying for. Everything was perfect and it was a lovely evening. In this location, it is easier to find parking on free st, the owner Danny is so dapper and charming, at first just a florist, he has now become a personal friend. I called from out of town to order a wreath for a funeral. I describe exactly what I wanted, and emailed them an picture from a wreath I have got from my local florist here in NYC showing the colors, which was the colors of the Vietnam Service Ribbon. I also sent a picture of what I wanted laminated in the center and what it should say. The price was very high. No problem. I said I wanted regular stand not the short one and wrapped in ribbon. They said they dont provide a stand and it would be extra $$$. Local florists have always gave stand included with a wreath. OK no problem, thats what it is. When I saw the wreath at the funeral home 3 days later I was very dissappointed. The colors were wrong, the flowers were skimpy, the stand was the short one and they had just stuck the center part on a piece of white paper a hand wrote the 2 word inscription sloppy writing. GREAT PRODUCT and GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! My husband and I ordered a large wholesale order for our wedding last week. We had placed our order about two months in advance. They gave us a great price. About a month later we received a phone call from the store letting us know there had been some incident with the seasonal crop in The Netherlands and the next available vendor would charge a lot more for the price agreed and prepaid. We were contacted immediately, they we truthful, professional and willing to accommodate our needs and expectations as clients. We reached an agreement and picked up our order the day before our wedding. The flowers were beautiful and fresh. The green myrtle was vibrant and crisp. The gladiolas were silky and delicate. This is not my favorite flower shop. Last year I ordered Valentine's Day flowers online for $60 and they were smaller and less attractive than in the picture. The flowers are gorgeous, but really, what flowers aren't pretty? I appreciated the friendly service on the day we came in. Bought two mini lemon cyprus plants. The one I kept was great for the first month but seemed to develop a weird mold soon after purchasing it. I was worried about what it may have brought into my house so I had to toss it. Good rule of thumb, trust the flower shops and nurseries you purchase plants from. If the business isn't taking care when choosing the products they sell to you, there's no telling what bacteria, unpleasant nasties or bugs you may be bringing into your home. read more

Great job on an arrangement of spring flowers for my grandmother, who is staying in a hospital in Portland. As I don't live in Maine, I had no idea where to turn for flowers and none of the florists on Yelp seemed to have good reviews, so I want to make sure Harmons and Bartons gets one! I wanted something simple and not cheesy (i.e. no balloons, teddy bears, or baby's breath), and they put together a lovely bouquet of daffodils and yellow tulips in a basic but classic glass vase. My grandmother loved it and sent me a picture and it's exactly what I had in mind. Danielle was so helpful through the process in pulling together the design based on my vision, providing quotes and amending it based on our budget needs, and for preparing everything to make the day of the wedding so easy. The bouquets and floral arrangements were so beautiful and I'm still using some of the wheat and lavender arrangements to decorate my home. This Valentine's Day my husband ordered a flower arrangement to be delivered on Friday to my place of work in Portland, just a few streets away on the waterfront. The flowers arrived at 4:57pm, after I had left, the building closes at 5pm. The arrangement presentation was less than what one would expect from Harmon's & Barton's and what we've experienced in the past. I ordered an arrangement on Wednesday for a Friday delivery. I specifically stated to the person who took my order on three different occasions during our conversation that there were to be no red, pink or purple flowers in the arrangement. I also discussed with her an arrangement that appeared on the Harmon's & Barton's website and requested that the flowers resemble the photo as closely as possible. Imagine my shock and embarrassment when I arrived at the venue last evening to find a shoddy looking mess with a great blob of red stem roses in the very center of the arrangement! Not only were there red roses but the other stems were brown and on the verge of death! Two other arrangements delivered by different florists in Portland were just gorgeous - tastefully executed with fresh flowers. I apologized to my hostess and will make amends to her at a later date. At the time that I placed the order, I requested an email receipt. When that didn't arrive by Friday morning, I emailed a second request directly to the shop via their contact list - I have yet to receive any message from them. If we had reached Portland earlier yesterday, I personally would have returned this sorry excuse for an arrangement directly to the Harmon's & Barton's. I called the shop first thing this morning and was told that no manager would be available to speak with until Monday. My advice would be to stay away from this florist or prepare to be disappointed with the results! read more

Recently I sent my wife flowers for her birthday and had them delivered to her work in Portland. I requested they be colorful and have a significant "Wow!" factor. I was reassured that the florist responsible was very artistic and would take care of me. Guys, if you're looking for something special at a very reasonable price, I've found it. The flowers were GORGEOUS. My wife's actual text after delivery: "Oh my gosh, this is the most beautiful flower arrangement I've ever seen. The girls in the office are going crazy over it!" I send her flowers 3-4 times a year, so that's saying something. The flowers they used were fresh and original (I've never seen a few of them before). Rest assured, they have my business for all the right reasons; they do fantastic work, are reasonable, and impressed my wife. read more

From doing all of the planning and idea boards as well as updating our contract multiple times Ashley was absolutely amazing and definitely outperformed more than I could have imagined! Our bouquets and boutonnieres were absolutely perfect the table arrangements were gorgeous and the flowers and greenery on our pergola absolutely made for the perfect backdrop. Everything was exactly what I wanted and better and all of the flowers were fresh and vibrant. We used a lot of the table arrangements for our wedding brunch the next morning and even sent bouquets and arrangements to loved ones who are not able to make it and they all have been thriving. To all the brides out there - a simple statement - however much your fiancé tells you he cares about the flowers, it is a flat out lie. Guys simply don't care, but because we love you so much we pretend to care about what types of arrangements we'll have and what the colors are. If you are a groom and happen to be reading this a) congratulations on your DEEP involvement in your wedding planning and b) please go the next review and save yourself the time you will waste on this place watching football or doing other manly things. Now that I have that out of the way let me make a blanket statement about this business...I feel bad for all of the little seedlings and flowers and such that have to be produced by this place, because this business is just flat out awful. I seriously don't know how they are in business - we badly wanted to use them, but they are completely inept, or just simply don't care. I realize that there are "bridezillas" out there that may make it hard on vendors sometimes - but we were anything but that in the process as ridiculous as it ended up getting. Here was our experience: Drove up to Portland to meet with Rhonda and had a great hour long meeting (foreshadowing: waste of an hour) talking about what we, rather, my fiance wanted for our wedding. Rhonda was great in person, very nice and had some great ideas. She said she would send a proposal by Tuesday of the following week. Two weeks later (which was still quite ok with us at this point) we got a proposal that was totally wrong, not what we talked about at all, and had the wrong wedding date. It took an additional 2 weeks for Rhonda to send us the right proposal, which albeit a bit long was still ok. We wanted to add a few things to it, which you would think wouldn't be a problem, but this is when the process derailed. We went 3 weeks without a response. Voicemails and emails completely ignored. When we finally got a response it was that we would have to put a retainer down for them to provide another quote. What? In what business world does it make sense to put a retainer down on something when you don't have all the details? But ok, probably a bad decision on our end, but we left Rhonda a voicemail and sent an email confirming we were ok with putting a retainer down to move forward. Another full 2 weeks later, and no response again - so we are literally spending $1k more on flowers to NOT work with them given the abhorrent lack of customer service, which unfortunately is not in bloom here. read more

I have used Harmon & Barton's many times. From birthdays to funerals, I have recommended them to others and I maintained an account with them. I will never use them again. My manager asked me to check on the status of an order sent to them for roses. They were for her father who was in the hospital. When I called I was told the order had been contracted out and if I wanted to know their status I should call the contracted flower company. Rather than taking responsibility it was now my responsibility to figure out their error. I then spoke to a manager who informed me she would call to let me know the delivery status. 30 minutes passed and I called again and their response was we'll call you after they're delivered. This is their job to deliver flowers if they want to contract that responsibility out so be it but I ordered from them,, I paid them for the flowers and so they should be responsible for the delivery. read more

As I was recently in hospital for knee replacement, I received a bouquet of pink roses from a dear friend via Harmon and Barton's. I was shocked at the quality, as they were already turning brown. Knowing my friend is a fine gardener herself and a frequent customer of theirs, I decided to call the store to complain. They were indifferent to the complaint and said I could either exchange them for a new arrangement or get half of MY FRIEND'S money back. I opted for the exchange, and later that day a tall vase of yellow long-stemmed roses arrived, just shoved in the jar, with no arranging. They, too, were already turning brown. When I told my friend of this, she was very angry. Not only had she been a long and frequent and faithful customer of theirs, but it was adding insult to injury by sending that shoddy second set of flowers. They never got back to me when they said they would, I never actually received a quote from them and while I understand that the wedding business and season is really hectic and my wedding was off season (in December), I still felt like I could have received some answers faster.
