A beautiful sunset on Ferry Beach
    Meghan O.

Ferry Beach is a beautiful family conference center. I have been going there since I was a kid and continue you to bring my littles there too. You can stay in the dorms and enjoy meals while visiting the beach and participating in the planned activities.

I have never come across a more prejudice, morally wrong and bad business situation in my life than…read moremy most recent experience with this campground. I am 40, am an engineer and my mother is 70 and a retired high school teacher. I have a five year old and live with my mom. I have owned three properties over the years. I say all this background because it's necessary for this story. Oh and I am very quiet, have held a security clearance, a marathon runner blah blah blah. My mom sold her condo and we have a move out date on June 15. We decided to get an rv for the season and stay at a campground. We picked this one. They said we were all set to move our rv to the site for May 21st. Then on May 20th in the afternoon they call and basically say our family dynamic is unacceptable and we can't move in. Yes I have a girlfriend. She doesn't live with us but stays often. She has been an Americore worker plus worked with homeless for years. Apparently we would look to out of place. First - to tell us this about 16 hours before move in is unacceptable, after a couple weeks of saying you're fine. To be that judgmental and prejudiced is unacceptable. I have zero respect for this campground and wish all who read this to boycott. Mary Ellen you are not a good person. In one voicemail to my mom you state how she's anxious and also say it will be fine! Turns out she had good reason to be anxious. To treat others like you do is not ok. I found that anxious comment very off at the time and in retrospect it is telling on many levels. Be ashamed! What you have done to good people is wrong on many levels. I state all this personal stuff to highlight how ridiculous being turned away from a campground is. I have owned nice homes in very nice communities and never thought a pathetic campground would turn me away, what a joke.

We stayed at this location as Thousand Trails members. Unfortunately all the regional transient…read moresites were taken but they were able to accommodate us with a site in the back amongst the seasonals. Our site was large but since it had been a former seasonal site the hookups were located in the back and we couldn't back up to them. The layout of the site meant we had to park lengthwise across it. However this is an OLD RV park with tons of sites crammed together. The roads are also narrow and need maintenance. This meant getting our camper positioned was extremely challenging. Although our site was fairly large it was completely unmaintained. When the seasonal camper that previously occupied the site was moved out no effort was made to clean it up. There was sections of gravel and some what were dirt, trash was in the fire ring, dog feces left on the gravel, large holes were everywhere and near the back old electrical wires had been dug out of the ground and were strewn everywhere. This was disheartening to see. The campground in extremely large but probably 95% of it are seasonal campers. Some of them maintain their sites beautifully and others look absolutely awful. We were there over the weekend and both nights we could hear parties going on until 1am - 2am. On one occasion we were out walking our dogs a little after midnight and golf carts were racing by us and people were yelling out from them to other campers sitting outside. Never once did we see security patrolling and we were told by someone who had been there for years that security goes home at midnight and even before then they never address anything. They have 3 pools but one was closed and looked like a swamp that was just a breeding ground for mosquitoes. According to some of the regulars the past few years there has always been at least one pool closed due to some issue or another. There also seems to be a drainage issue. It has been rainy in the northeast the past month but we saw many sites that were total mud pits and lots on standing water with nowhere to go. I'm not surprised the mosquitoes were so bad while we were there. On the positive side we've stayed at over a hundred campgrounds and by far the seasonals here were the friendliest. Not only were our neighbors for the weekend extremely welcoming so was everyone else. While walking our dogs everyone would stop and say hi to them and chat with us. Also the staff was very nice. Greg was the staff member who showed us to our site and he checked in on us the following day and even made a point to come over to say goodbye when he saw us near the office checking out. I also bumped into an former coworker of mine (Kathy G) who works in the office here which was a pleasant surprise and she was as friendly and helpful as I remembered her to be. The owners and management have a real potential gem with this park. However it's going to take a large cash infusion to clean it up, make it more big rig friendly, hire a good amount of staff and also to enforce some rules. If I stayed here again it would be because of the great location and not the park.

My first…read moresite was okay, but someone across from us was a smoker and I did not want to be breathing in smoke the whole weekend. I ended up in a great spot surrounded by pine trees. The staff and campers were all kind. It is conveniently located close to Portland and allows dogs. Despite no on-site store, I would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Worst camping experience we've had in 50 years of RV experience. It starts when you try to enter…read morethe campground and have to drive over bumps/holes that will absolutely tear up your rig (Seriously, it broke bolts and caused damage to our lights. We will be seeking compensation for those damages. They broke dishes, caused the pantry door to fly open and all our groceries to fall out ruined.). This place is not well-maintained at all. The sites are practically on top of each other. There is no room to set up anything. Anything you need to do here is an additional charge. The bathrooms are sweltering and full of bugs (Who builds a campsite next to a swamp?!). There never seems to be anyone in the office during the business hours they claim, and those are only 1-7:00PM. It's brilliant on their part. Checkout is two hours before the office opens, so you won't be able to complain or get anything handled before you leave. Forget getting firewood, but that's OK, 'cause there is no room for a campfire anyway. You're not allowed to actually use the trashcans or dumpster for normal travel waste, by the way. Signs say no food or beverages, food containers, etc. This place is unbelievably cramped and crowded with not nearly enough facilities for this many people. The seasonal people are unbelievably rude to the short term stay folks (no idea why). And there truly odd people wandering around in the middle of the night. No kids is a plus for noise, but I'd rather have kids disrupting the quiet than relentless, massive, swamp bugs. Also, they allow dogs.. bark all night, yap all day, untrained, loud, sometimes leashed dogs. Avoid. You are better off at a truck stop, rest area or parking lot. We will be requiring a refund as well as compensation for the damages to our motorhome and belongings. But since the operators make sure to not be available, we'll have to seek our reimbursement/refund when we get home.
