As appetizers were passed, we noticed there were NO bacon wrapped scallops. Instead, Blue Elephant REPLACED this with some fig-thing! Apparently they were unable or simply forgot to get the scallops?? This last minute substitutions was made WITHOUT our knowledge and without ANY price adjustment/refund towards the bill, which of course they make you prepay in full. No satisfaction guarantee with this company. The plated dinner was such a disaster! The steak was so disgusting and poorly cooked, no one ate it and the brussel sprouts that accompanied it were completely inedible. How do you mess up brussel sprouts?! It was really upsetting to see all the thousands of dollars worth of food, be dumped into the trash. Some of our guests actually LEFT our wedding and brought back PIZZA!! So this is what you get when you spend thousands and hire people who claim to have 27 years of catering experience?? How embarrassing. Not to mention, you can expect a ridiculous delay in emails, expect to make numerous calls to get a hold of either Ruben or Fausto and prepare yourself for lots of confusion and unexpected menu changes without being notified or reimbursed. Those words don't mean that we were surprised - we knew it would be really good. However, our wildest expectations were exceeded time and time again throughout the night. The food was absolutely out of this world. Everyone is still talking about the hors d'oeuvres and the dinner was so delicious. Their staff could not have been more accommodating, more service oriented, or professional. From the uniforms, to the clear rain ponchos, to their genuine smiles, they presented the best possible brand for Churchill's and created the perfect atmosphere for our daughter's wedding. We were so grateful for the presence of the owner at our event; it was another sign that he wanted the event to be flawless, and two of their management staff, although guests at the wedding, were certainly watching and checking all aspects as well. Churchill's staff went significantly out of their way to take care of our family and friends in the wedding party- even making special trips to the event barn with drinks and appetizers during post-ceremony picture taking. It was as though they all knew how difficult and sad it was that the event could not proceed outside as planned (because of the weather) - and set out to create warmth, happiness, and joy to totally dispel the mood that the cold, dreary rain had created. We could not have been more impressed with how helpful their staff was as well. Given that we had to pivot to having the wedding in the barn instead of outside, their staff was right there saying "don't worry, we'll take care of resetting the barn for dancing and getting chairs back to the dining tent." I had been trying to arrange for some guests to help with all of that, and there it was - already taken care of. Churchill's took an incredible burden off all of us with their generous offers and execution of help, and it didn't stop there. The staff was a significant part of helping to "take down the dining area in the tent," and their staff was also there helping to dismantle the event and cocktail barns after the dancing stopped. We had expected to do all of that ourselves the morning after the wedding, and when we went to the barns and the tent and found them totally clean and all the rental items in the catering tent, we were floored. In addition to the "day of" support, I cannot say enough about the incredible support we got throughout this process (not having done a big event like this before with a caterer). The head chef provided an amazing menu for us to consider and an absolutely delicious tasting event, and the Event Operations Manager and Craig (the owner) were a fountain of support with answers to questions, and suggestions for us to consider. That's the kind of proactive service that makes a real difference in an event. There is no other caterer I would use at this point - they are at the top of a list of one now. Everyone who attended the wedding has remarked on how good everything from Churchill's was, and I have been talking to everyone I know this past two weeks, singing their praises. We knew the day would be special, and while the rain dampened our spirits and caused the décor and the plans to not be all we had hoped, the Churchill team totally made this wedding something beyond our wildest dreams. They are all really special people, and we were so grateful they were part of this important day in our family and grateful for all they did to make this day so wonderful.

Segue... + Generally speaking, their prices are always a bit cheaper than the other big party rental place in South Portland. Did I ever tell you the one about the $40 high-top cocktails? No? See above. + They had all the items I needed when I showed up. At the other party rental place, they hemmed and hawed with me about what I needed and when I needed it by. + Even though they weren't supposed to (and I hope this doesn't get them in trouble), the two young men in the "warehouse" area loaded all of our equipment in and out of our U-Haul. To sit back and watch them load made me feel like a princess... I did ask multiple times if I could help, and they very politely told me I didn't have to. They were respectful, they were responsible, and they were thoughtful - asked questions about what we were doing before the event, remembered who we were and asked about our event when we went to return everything, and even helped us clean the U-Haul after (knowing U-Haul fines for any piece of litter left in the bed or cab). + Every person I encountered - from the young men, to the woman in the office, to the man with the delivery truck (who I think was the owner) - was a rockstar at customer service. Accommodating, efficient, timely... I so appreciated being treated like a customer here, while at the other party rental place I was made to feel like a joke. Cons: - For the life of her, the woman I was speaking to when I called could not understand me despite spelling everything out multiple times very slowly; as such my name and address were completely wrong when I got my receipt which I had to call a second and third time to have sent to me when they didn't send it the first and second time I called asking for it. - They are located REALLY off the beaten path. If you're throwing a party in Portland proper, it's quite the extra effort to get the stuff from A Plus Party Rentals and bring it back into town. Cheryl and Dale, the owners, have a remarkable way of making you feel like family, their attention to detail is spot on, and are extremely responsive to questions. We had been planning our wedding for just under a year during the pandemic and although this was their first wedding season, you would've never known. My bridal party and I stayed the night before at the beautifully built bridal cottage, the hair and makeup team arrived and had plenty of space and lighting to set up in the air-conditioned cottage. The catering team and bartenders that we hired had plenty of space to set up and work, with a full bar and full-size refrigerator, sink for cleaning, and dedicated area for grilling and preparing. Our DJ was set up on the main level on the dance floor ensuring our guests had adequate space for proper celebration. Every question or request we had on the wedding day was answered and met, which was great because that meant we could relax with peace of mind knowing the ceremony site and barn would be ready! The venue itself is so incredibly maintained with acres of green grass, gorgeous hills (makes for excellent photos!), newly built bathrooms, and a brand-new fire pit/patio area, which our guests loved.
