This is the 3rd time we have been to this quaint ice cream shop. Our friends introduced us to this place because it came highly recommended by his friends. So word of mouth is strong for this somewhat throw back ice cream shop, but with very eccentric and creative flavored ice cream. The owner is friendly and obviously proud of his flavors. It's a small business. The location is not on the main strip and truly hope he gets enough business to help him stay in business. this place is such a great find! the ice crema flavors are original and very very good - i toughly enjoyed myself while trying a bunch of them! we had a lovely conversation with the owner/genius behind the counter and also fell in love with the ambiance. got to play some board games and listen to funny 70/80s music. highly recommend you take home a bottle of their hot fudge! read more

AWESOME experience. These guys here make their own ice cream, which I've gotta say tasted FABULOUS. The owner, Joe, greeted us with a huge smile and told us all about his shop. I love Chocolate and this place had at least 4 different types. I'm not much into cones, I always get a cup. Joe served mine in a "frosted" cup. Are you kidding me. On a Saturday night , date night, my wife and I decided--somewhat whimsically--to have dessert for dinner, and we are so glad we chose Fernweh on Bayshore Drive. It was our first visit, and from the moment we walked in, it felt like a breath of fresh air. We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner and his wife, who went far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect. They didn't just serve us--they actually made exactly what we wanted, on the spot. I mentioned I was craving rum raisin, and his wife explained she had been soaking the raisins herself in Jamaican dark rum. She then proceeded to prepare it fresh for me. That alone would have been remarkable. But it didn't stop there. My wife wanted Slumber Party, a flavor they weren't even planning to prepare until the next day. Without hesitation, they made that as well--just for her. That level of care, pride, and hospitality is rare. All the ingredient's were natural , like real cream , sugar and real flavorings! They even make their own Hot Fudge! They were all thoughtfully made, and clearly high quality. We had originally planned to go to somewhere else for ice cream, but after reading the ingredients lists, changed our mind ... and decided to try something new. Hands down the best ice cream shop in town. This is not your ordinary ice cream shop, nothing is commercial and everything is made in house. Not even sure how to describe this place. I was very excited to try homemade unique flavors of ice cream. But I was unimpressed with the basic flavors they had and the space itself. On the previous reviews I saw interesting and fun flavors and while we came here we got strawberry, cherry, vanilla, peanut butter just the basics I find at any other ice cream shop. Waited way too long for the banana split and the place wasn't even busy at all! Pretty small in size and there was nothing special about it, pretty much the basic banana split I get literally anywhere else for around $8-$9 not $13. The decor...WOW, felt like I walked into a yard sale...sooooo busy and nothing matched or went together. Place definitely needs a clean up and maybe even a more organized staff. read more

I dragged my husband there and there was 1 "boozy" ice cream on the menu. it was a wine sorbet. I added vanilla ice cream to it and it was good. BUT I came here for boozy ice cream. the menu they post looks amazing but there was nothing available except the sorbet. one of the employees told us they give precedence to to hotels so they were sold out don't get me wrong, the placed is cute, the staff is nice but go to Culver's for your ice cream.
