I parked across the street in the public parking lot…read moreat North Stewart Street and East 2nd Street, and got to use a flashing crosswalk indicator for the first time ever! It worked, as everyone stopped right away for me. There was also available (and free) street parking closer, next to the park, on East King Street. This building is amazing. You first climb the stairs on North Stewart Street, and enter a grand entry hall, with a few carrels and a book return at one end and a view of the Capitol grounds at the rear. The library itself is to the right, and is open from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. There is a librarian at the front who is very helpful. They take turns and there is a new librarian every hour. You can check out books with your Carson City Library card. If you want to do work here on your laptop, this is the place to be So much better than the Carson City Library. It is much, much larger, on two stories, with plenty of carrels and tables to work on, many by an electrical receptacle. There is also free, secure wifi. There are so few people here. I had the entire second floor (upper level) to myself. And the clientele is better. I only saw one person who may have been homeless, vs. many in the Carson City Library. I have nothing against homeless people, but I have seen them abuse services in other libraries (like taking to separate indoor seats for the day and not occupying either one, instead choosing to lie down on the picnic table outside). There are also public computers, which are available for an hour at a time I think. They also open at 8 AM, vs. 10 AM at the Carson City Library, which is more conducive to work. There are clean restrooms on the second floor. I saw a rock collection there as well, with Nevada Tartan Stones, on the west wall. There was a display of the original hand-written Nevada State Constitution as well. At the south end of the second floor, there was a spectacular view of the grand entry hall as well as a book monument that was shaped like an igloo. As I left, I saw a virtual reality station near the librarian's desk .You put on this headset and you experience something amazing. The librarian said it was open to the public. I went to the lower level (basement) to look around. It is just a collection of archives, which looks like a closed office hallway at first. The patron coming up said she was scared to use it at first, as the basement halls go on forever and look all the same. I agreed with her, and decided not to look around. Maybe next time.

Very clean, organized and accessible off of Maine St. There is an internet link where you can borrow, hold, and extend books and articles. The selection of audio books is lacking, compared to the larger libraries but you can use the app "Libby" which may enable you to access more of a variety. I still need to check that out.

This library reminds me of so many in Elk Grove and other bedroom communities across NorCal that are very kids-and family-friendly and nicely designed for everyone. This library has been around since the early 2000s but they've really kept it nice. From the colorful palette in the children's area, to the soft warm tones in the grown up sections, all parts of this library is comfortable and cozy to hang out in. Kids section is tucked in and filled with shorter shelves perfect for them, and there's a couch/lounging area for parents to sit with kids and read together. Very colorful with lots of cute decors all throughout on shelves and walls. Adults section have lots of reference and non-fiction as well as fiction books, cds's, and dvd's. There's also a small "gallery" cove area with original art by local artists that resembles a lot like the cubism by Picasso. Nice. Several meeting and study rooms are available to reserve for quiet reading and studying. This library looks out to nice landscaping on all sides and esp. into the South Valleys Regional Park on one side which is full of green fields, very pretty. Overall, this is a lovely library and I'm glad we had the opportunity to discover and visit this Washoe County library in Reno.

The wife was looking at libraries to bring our kids to while on our little vacation to Reno this summer. Well, she found out that the downtown library in Reno is somewhat famous! Yup, that's right, a cool library that's even well known. Apparently this library has always been filled with wonderful indoor plants of all kinds. As I walked in I was quite impressed by how green the space and relaxing the environment was because of all the beautiful plants. Oh yeah: - so so so many plants all over, hanging, standing, growing sideways, coming down towards you, they are all around. - all kinds of from pothos, monsteras, fiddle leaf figs, and succulents to spider plants and snake plants. If you can think of it, and it's an indoor plant, it's probably here! - Multiple floors with so many book stacks and more - several of the floors are kind of half floors, interesting right? - friendly staff who helped my kids and provided a fun scavenger hunt for them (keep them young longer). They said it was fun even without prizes. - basement floor is actually like an indoor atrium of sorts, you can eat there, it's paved like a backyard with the pebbles embedded in concrete so you don't have to worry about getting the floor dirty. Lots of seating and the coolest spot too being lower level. Ehh: - no free parking. It's a bummer but understandable being this is downtown in a bigger city like Reno where everyone's office is located so if they had a lot or a structure for the public library it'd be expensive to maintain AND many people would likely illegally park there AND they would have to charge the patrons anyways.

It was like walking onto the valley forge set of the movie. And it's still a wonderful library too! Are you kidding me?! And BTW everyone there( you know, the librarians) are so kind and informative. I grew up with libraries from coast to coast including the New York public library. But I'm hard pressed to say this is a wee bit more impressive. Wow! Go get yourself a book!

They also have cords you can use their for free cell phone charging while at the library. They even have a great bulletin board of all the activities happening in the community. I was here for about two hours on a Wednesday morning, needing some wifi to do some work and some…read morepower for my laptops. I found the library to be clean, comfortable and welcoming. I am not a Truckee resident and did not have any issues connecting to the internet which was speedy and free. The library is decently sized and has all the usual library stuff, including fiction and non-fiction, reference and periodicals. There are computers available to be used though I'm not sure if those are for residents only. I'm not suggesting that there's an exposed power outlet on the back wall of the library but if someone was looking to discretely charge up their RV's onboard battery while using the wifi of the library, they might be interested to know that. wanted to update my review. One disappointment is that the free EV charging that used to be…read moreavailable here has petered out and has been broken for months now. There's a sign on it that says out of order. But on the upside I just learned about this 3d printer I couldn't be more thrilled. Yes the library now has a 3-D print lab. They only allow 1/mo and it must be something that was successfully printed from thingverse or similar site. in other words you probably can't just design your own without uploading it to one of those sites first and getting others to successfully printed to show that it's not a disaster and then it is a successful design not that they only offer PLA (Polylactic Acid). It is the standard for library printers because it's easy to use and doesn't give off toxic fumes, it can warp if left in the direct summer sun or high heat though so if you're printing something for use outdoors you may need to spray on a protectant of some sort.
