My 8-year-old daughter had a traumatic experience at a different endodontist, where an assistant bluntly told her, "There is a big needle going into your mouth." Naturally, she froze in fear, refused to open her mouth, and we were told she would need to be put under anesthesia to complete the procedure--an added cost of over $1,000. Given her Atrial Septal Defect (a tiny hole in her heart), I was extremely uncomfortable with the idea of her going under in a dental office. I had a case of severe throbbing pain in my upper right jaw and went to my dentist who could not find anything wrong - so she recommended that I see an Endontist. Dr Solano did an exam to find the pain on Weds early Am to fit me into his busy schedule. He found my problem right away. I needed a root canal. He came in early the next morning to do this procedure and it was flawless! Dor Solano told me to expect to use ibuprofen or tylenol for a few days as my tooth and surrounding area healed. I never felt any pain. Dr Solano did such a great job on a difficult tooth with four veins that had to be removed. I highly recommend him for any endodontic services! I called Dr. Solano because my pain was so intense that I knew a dentist would only give me a referral. Within twenty four hours I was seen. After I filled out the necessary paperwork, I was escorted back to the chair. A few quick x-rays were taken. The x-rays showed that I had dead roots and needed a root canal. Dr. Solano walked me through step by step about what was involved in performing a root canal. He put my mind at ease. The procedure lasted about forty five minutes. The atmosphere was great, and I felt calm. Upon completion, Dr. Solano's staff called in my prescription for antibiotics to help with the healing process. Dr. Solano evaluated my tooth, and took the time to seek a consultation with my primary care physician, consult back with me, and provided me with options for a complex procedure, and helped me decide on an option which he then needed to refer to a different specialist. Every step of the way, I had complete information that allowed me to make a best care treatment decision. On two separate visits, I was treated warmly by the care team, seen promptly by the doctor, and billed transparently. I think it's really cool that this doctor took the time to help me make a difficult treatment decision in a fully informed way, going out of his way to teach and explain as I needed. I went to Dr. Solano for a 2nd opinion on whether a root canal was needed, planning on having my regular Dentist do the root canal if necessary. Dr Solano walked into the exam room, did not speak to me, and started a root canal with no explanation. When he stepped out for a moment I asked the assistant what was going on, and she explained that he'd started the root canal. Apparently there'd been some sort of miscommunication and he hadn't checked my chart or the reason for my appointment wasn't listed correctly. At that point I had no choice but to finish the root canal, even though I wasn't prepared for it. Overall, I was unimpressed with Dr Solano's lack of bedside manner. He was brusque, barely spoke to me, and was dismissive when I asked him a question about preventing cracks that would lead root canals in the future. I was also disappointed in the billing practices of this office. I paid $250 at the time of the appointment and was told insurance would cover the rest. 11 months later I received a bill for an additional $795 with an odd handwritten note saying it had been almost a year and I needed to pay immediately. Who waits almost a year to bill their clients? And then blames the client for it? I have no complaints about the result of the procedure and Dr Solano seemed to know what he was doing. However, I was underwhelmed by the service and the total cost was significantly more than a root canal with my primary dentist even after my insurance covered a portion of their charges. read more

As we speak, they are trying to charge me $100 for an unnecessary 3-D CT scan. Came here for a second opinion, and apparently the scan was not covered by my insurance. Got on the phone to ask about the charge, and said the Dr. would get back to me on whether he would waive the charge. Nobody ever got back to me. Instead, I get a stream of passive aggressive bills in the mail (waste of paper), and I happened to be out of town so I never read them. Fast forward one month, I call the office again and they explain to me that the Dr. didn't approve waiving the fee (so why did nobody ever contact me to say that??). Every other Dr I went to immediately saw that my tooth was rotten and far from saving, and explained that a 3D conebeam scan was unnecessary. So this "Scan" they're trying to charge me for is out of the standard of practice! Any doctor could have determined my tooth condition without the need for it (since my tooth was SO far from salvation and in BAD condition), and their service is bad/they are not accomodating to their customers. Then, they have the nerve to tell me that I can pay for this in 4 installments of $25- don't baby me. read more

I was referred to this dentist for a root canal and received a very large unexpected bill in the mail. The rude and unprofessional front desk associate failed to tell me that this specific dentist was not within my network, whereas the other dentist in office was. After I got the large bill and called to get more information as to why I was not informed, all she did was tell me there was nothing she could do and she is not responsible for informing me that I was seeing a doctor I was not referred to. She had a complete lack of empathy and professionalism and even laughed when I said I cannot afford this unexpected bill. One of my best dental experiences yet for a Root Canal. Front desk was friendly, and had me fill out paperwork. After minimal wait I was brought in and setup by a friendly dental assistant. Dr. Solano came in shortly after, told me what was up, and proceeded to numb me and do my root canal. No pain, and a short 20 minutes later the procedure was complete. I could tell Dr. Solano is an expert in the field, and was very friendly and knowledgable. His bedside manner was soothing as well, or perhaps it was just the narco I ate before going to the office. Definitely would recommend. After my dental insurance it cost me about $250, and then I will have to get a crown, but that is standard for root canals. read more

I have had a few root canals prior to this by both general dentists and root canal specialists and this is the best experience I have had by far. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. After filling out the paperwork and a minimal wait, I was brought in and seated in the chair. The dental assistant (I think this is the correct term) was friendly, knowledgeable, polite and explained what she was doing the entire time throughout the process. Dr. Solano was fantastic. Super friendly and you could definitely tell that he is an expert in his field. The procedure was quick and painless. Afterwards, they explained how I needed to care for the area in the coming days and how to eliminate any discomfort should any arise. I can't get over how great and friendly they were. This review is a couple week later and I didn't experience any issues or pain, which is EXACTLY what you want from a root canal specialist. 5 out of 5 stars is the ONLY rating to give Dr. Solano! Gosh he is sooo beautiful, I would let him pull all my teeth. Seriously, he did a great job on my root canal tooth number 31. I went back and thought the tooth was still painful along with another tooth but when another greatly qualified Dr at this location fixed that tooth--all pain was gone. Dr Solano explained that the nerves cross each other when you are in pain and it may seem that there is pain coming from more than one tooth. As it turned out the tooth that bothered me the most was the only one that WAS actually bothering me at all. I would say that all Dr's at this location are highly qualified and take you in on a holiday! I am very thankful. I thought I was gonna die that day. read more

Dr. Solano has an excellent reputation and was highly recommended by my dentist, Dr. Pamela DiTomasso who is herself outstanding in her field of practice. Dr. Solano did an excellent job on my root canal and I really didn't have much discomfort afterwards. His staff are very personable, friendly and caring. So why the 3 stars? Because I specifically requested not to be given any numbing agents containing any type of novocaine as these drugs make me anxious and cause heart palpations. I had two sessions to complete the procedure. In the first session, he tried to talk me into using his preferred numbing agent but finally agreed to meet my request. In the second and last session, I trusted he would again use an alternative numbing agent but he used his preferred method instead and basically dismissed my comments when I reminded him of my initial request. I left his office that day thinking I could not trust him to honor my requests as long as they were safe and reasonable. read more

Was referred by my dentist for a root canal to Dr Solano. I'm sure anyone who hasn't had a root canal has heard the horror stories. I was terrified. I went to have the root canal and simply could not do it so I rescheduled. Everyone at the office was cool and didn't make me feel like an a-hole for not being able to go through with it. After experiencing the worst pain in my life, the day came to get my root canal. While sitting in the chair I explained that I didn't think I could go through with it but Dr. Solano was so great in making me comfortable and we went for it. He explained every little thing that he was doing and I honestly felt relaxed. It took about 40 mins for the total procedure and I was able to eat almost immediately. Pain was gone and I felt like a new human. All in all, this experience was a great one. It made me fear major dental work about thousand times less. Outstanding. I was sent by my dentist to Dr Solano after a terrible, sleepless night with the worst toothache imaginable. Dr. Solano was extremely professional, explained everything, did a root canal on a tooth which had been just a little sensitive until the night before (w/ an old crown) & on which my general dentist had tried a couple of things first after my x-rays were negative. Dr. S. figured it out, did my procedure and got me on my way in just about an hour. Still numb from the anesthetic, so we'll see how I feel tonight, but had to comment since the experience was so much better than everything I had ever heard about a root canal. I was seen at 6600 Madison Ave., Suite 2, which is a sister location to the one on 26th St. The front desk person, dental assistant, and Dr. Solano were all friendly and professional. My root canal didn't hurt at all, and seems to have been properly done. Why no fifth star? The price! Over $1200 for one hour of work by two people? That seems a bit dear. Especially since I had to have a permanent cap installed by my dentist a week later at a cost of ANOTHER 190-something dollars. I know there are Porsche payments to be made, but damn. read more

OK so no one likes dental procedures, right? Well I have a tooth that has been a problem for 30 years! To try and fix it for good, Dr. Solano performed an endodontic microsurgery on it and I couldn't have been more nervous! I was a mess when I showed up and Dr. Solano and his staff were all just awesome! They calmed me down, (a job in itself!) and Dr. Solano performed the surgery in 30 minutes with no pain!! It was a success! The recovery was exactly as they said and went fairly smooth. I went back today to have my stitches out and once again I arrived nervous. My experience with Dr. Solano was amazing. Dr. Michael Hinh is my General Dentist and he referred me to Dr. Solano's office. Exceptional people refer only exceptional people! I had what you call a "hot tooth" and the pain was unmanageable no matter how much medication I was given. This tooth would not numb for nothing. Dr. Solano did what he had to do to get the nerve out, all the while I was agonizing and exclaiming my pain, not fun or an easy task for him. This was very stressful for all. I was very apprehensive about having a root canal. Like everybody, I had always heard people say things like "I'd rather have a root canal than that!" , referring to something bad. I was surprised that there wasn't more pain. My regular dentist sent me to Dr. Solano for the root canal because he determined that the crown I had on that tooth had a cavity underneath it and it had to be done before he could put a replacement crown on it. Dr. Solano explained the whole procedure to me and then numbed me up real good. I never felt any pain from the work he did, so that was a relief. Initially, I thought the price was pretty high, but I guess it's right in the range for California and with a molar. Plus, endodontists have to have an additional two years of education and training to do what they do. The parking sucks and you have to park on the street with a meter but I was lucky and didn't get a parking ticket. The visit was over in about an hour and fifteen minutes so that was pretty efficient. It took about six hours for the anesthesia to wear off so I could have something to eat, then only soup because he cautioned against chewing on it. I definitely would recommend him. read more
